Improved Meet-in-the-Middle Attacks on Crypton and mCrypton

  • Crypton is a SP-network block cipher that attracts much attention because of its excellent performance on hardware. Based on Crypton, mCrypton is designed as a lightweight block cipher suitable for Internet of Things (IoT) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). The security of Crypton and mCrypton under meet-in-the-middle attack is analyzed in this paper. By analyzing the differential properties of cell permutation, several differential characteristics are introduced to construct generalized ${\delta}-sets$. With the usage of a generalized ${\delta}-set$ and differential enumeration technique, a 6-round meet-in-the-middle distinguisher is proposed to give the first meet-in-the-middle attack on 9-round Crypton-192 and some improvements on the cryptanalysis of 10-round Crypton-256 are given. Combined with the properties of nibble permutation and substitution, an improved meet-in-the-middle attack on 8-round mCrypton is proposed and the first complete attack on 9-round mCrypton-96 is proposed.

미국 센서스의 변화와 향후 전망: 2000년의 경험과 2010년의 계획을 중심으로 (Transformation and Future Prospect in the U.S. Census: Focusing on 2000 Census Experience and 2010 Census Plans)

  • 이 글은 1990년부터 진행된 미국의 인구센서스의 변화와 향후의 전망에 대해서 2000년의 경험과 2010년의 계획을 중심으로 논의한다. 먼저, 2000년 센서스의 준비과정에서 미국 과학원학술평의회 국가통계위원회가 작성한 2000년 센서스 개선안의 내용을 통계적 추정방법 도입, 응답률 개선방안, long form 개선방안, 소수민족 집계누락, 인구센서스 대체방안, 센서스 비실시 연도 소지역통계 확보방안, 센서스 프레임 정비 등으로 살펴보고, 1998년 대법원 판결 이후 2000년 센서스에서 통계적 추정방법을 이용한 미국판 One Number Census를 추진하지 못하게 된 경위를 검토한다. 다음은 2010년 인구센서스의 핵심적 특성의 하나인 long form과 short form의 분리, 곧 short form은 전통적 센서스, 곧 전수조사와 현장실사의 원칙을 준수하는 방식으로 그대로 두고, long form을 대체하여 순환센서스로 진행되는 American Community Survey에 대해서는 그 과정과 주요 특성을 검토한다. MAF/TIGER는 인구센서스의 집계과정에서 정확성을 향상 하고자 하는 또 하나의 특성으로, 이것은 2010년 센서스에서 모바일 컴퓨터를 도입하는 하이테크 센서스를 목표로 기획된 것이었다. 이 글은 미국 센서스에서 short form과 long form의 분리가 대법원 판결로 우연히 일어난 것이 아니라는 점을 강조하기는 하지만, 미국 센서스는 2008년 현재, 인구조사국의 모바일컴퓨터 개발실패로 60만 비정규직 조사원의 고용을 불가피하게 할 것으로 예상되며, 이로 말미암아 2010년 미국 센서스의 정확성에 대한 우려감이 증대하고 있음을 지적한다.

각종백혈구백분비계산법(各種白血球百分比計算法)에 관(關)한 고찰(考察) (Comparison of Various Methods Applied to the Leukocyte Differential Counting)

  • 각종백혈구(各種白血球) 백분비계산방법(百分比計算方法)에는 거이 백종(百種)에 가까울 정도(程度)인데 학자(學者)에 따라서 각각상이(各各相異)하여 각각상이(各各相異)한 백분비(百分比)가 산정(算定)되어 어느방법(方法)을 택(擇)하여야 할것인가 곤란(困難)하다. 여기에서 가장 널리 사용(使用)하고 있는 5종방법(種方法)과 필자(筆者)가 고안(考案)한 13종방법(種方法)을 적용(適用)하여 각혈액도말표본(各血液塗抹標本)에 있는 백혈구(白血球) 실측수(實測數)와 비교검토(比較檢討)한 결과(結果) 도말표본장축(塗抹標本長軸)의 중안선부(中央線部)와 이 중안선부(中央線部)의 양변연(兩邊緣)과의 양(兩) 중안선부(中央線部) 즉(卽) 삼평행선연(三平行線緣)을 종단부(終端部)에서 초단부(初端部)까지 산정(算定)하는 방법(方法)이 비교적(比較的) 이상적(理想的) 방법(方法)이었다. 끝으로 시종강력(始終强力)히 지도편달(指導鞭撻)하여주신 김용필교수(金容珌敎授)에 심심(甚深)한 사의(謝意)를 표(表)하며 선생님(先生任)의 의도(意圖)를 백분발휘(百分發揮)치 못함에 미안(未安)한 마음 금(禁)치 못하며 선배제현(先輩諸賢)의 냉철(冷徹)한 비판(批判)과 지도편달(指導鞭撻)을 바라는바입니다.

군용타마(軍用馱馬)(제주마(濟州馬))의 혈액상(血液像) (Blood Picture of Army Pack Horses(Jeju Horses))

  • Although considerable research has been done on the blood picture of the horse, hot-blooded and cold-blooded, little work has been made of the blood picture of the army pack horse, Jeju horse. The object of the present investigation was to make good this deficiency, and to suggest standard for the blood picture of army pack horses kept under the regular military training and the ideal feeding in the heart of a mountain. Blood samples were drawn from the jugular vein through a 15-gauge bleeding needle from 41 males and 28 females, aging 3 to 9 years old. It was taken between seven and nine o'clock in the morning. Animals were handled as quietly as possible to avoid any excitation. No restraint other than a halter was used. Enumeration of erythrocyte, total and differential leukocyte count, determination of hemoglobin in blood, and the value of packed cell volume were male in the usual manner, and erythrocytic constant was calculated by the method of Wintrobe. Erythrocyte count was $7.83{\pm}0.20(4.95{\sim}11.05){\times}10^6/mm^3$(SE). This value was much lower than hot-horses, but slightly higer than the values of cold-horse reported from foreign country. Concentration of hemoglobin in blood was $13.0{\pm}0.33(9.5{\sim}17.8)g/100ml$. This value was much higher than that of cold-horses observed by the other authors, approaching to the values of hot-horses. Packed cell volume was $32.1{\pm}0.92(22{\sim}42)ml/100ml$. This vague was a little higher than that of the other cold-horses. Mean corpuscular volume was $41.5{\pm}1.20(26.6{\sim}59.3){\mu}m^3$. This value matched so well with the other results recorded by various investigators. Mean corpuscular hemoglobin and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration were $16.9{\pm}0.43(12.3{\sim}25)$ pg and $41.0{\pm}0.45(29.1{\sim}51.1)g/100ml$, respectively. These values were significantly higher than the values found by the other investigations. Total leukocyte enumeration was $10.5{\pm}0.41(5.6{\sim}17.9){\times}10^3/mm^3$, being considered as normal. And differential leukocyte count of neutrophil was $44.5{\pm}2.23(15{\sim}76)%$, $5,527{\pm}234(2,231{\sim}9,144)/mm^3$, of lymphocyte $50.5{\pm}1.19(19{\sim}77)%$, $4,307{\pm}125(1,456{\sim}11,098)/mm^3$, of monocytel (0~4)%, $105(0{\sim}352)/mm^3$, of eosiophil 3.2(0~14)%, $340(0{\sim}1,232)/mm^3$ and of basophil 0.25(0~3)%, $23(0{\sim}236)/mm^3$. The percentage of the differential count obtained from the present work showed a good agreement with the results of various authors. Of the horses examined monocyte was found from 42 horses, eosinophil from 62 horses and basophil from 10 horses. No significant differences recognized between male and female horses, and the effect of age was not observed between three to nine years old. Judging from the blood picture of the present investigation, it could be stated that the army pack horses on training were kept better than the average farming conditions.

${\alpha}-Galactosidase$의 활력차이에 의한 Bifidobacteria의 선별 (Detection of Bifidobacteria by ${\alpha}-Galactosidase$ activity)

  • 본 연구는 합성기질인 $X-{\alpha}-Gal$를 이용하여 발효유 및 유제품내의 Bifidobacteria 생균수를 측정할 목적으로 하였다. 젖산균과 Bifidobacteria의 ${\alpha}-galactosidase$ specific activity를 측정한 결과 Bifidobacteria 균주에서는 높은 ${\alpha}-galactosidase$ activity를 가지고 있었으며, 그 중 Bif. longum KCTC 3215의 specific activity는 8.57 unit/mg protein으로 가장 높게 나타났다. Lactobacillus, Streptococcus, Pediococcus와 Leuconostoc 균주에서는 활성이 미약하거나 없었다. 합성기질인 $X-{\alpha}-Gal$을 MRS agar 배지에 $100{\;}{\mu}M$ 첨가한 결과 Bifidobacteria는 blue colony로, Lac. bulgaricus, Lac. casei와 Leu. mescenteroides 균주는 light blue colony로, 그 외 젖산균에서는 white colony로 나타났다.

Assessment of the physico-chemical quality and extent of algal proliferation in water from an impounding reservoir prone to eutrophication

  • Background: Piton du Milieu (PdM) impounding reservoir is suspected to be eutrophic based on the elevated level of orthophosphate and nitrate. Water supplies from three adjacent rivers are primarily thought to contribute to the nutrient enrichment of the reservoir. It is also suspected that there is leaching of orthophosphate, nitrate and organic matter into the rivers during rainfall events and also as a result of anthropogenic activities within the catchment area. The aim of this study was to ascertain the impact of nutrient loading on the water quality of PdM water and on the population of freshwater microalgae in the reservoir. The enumeration and identification of algae from PdM were performed by differential interference contrast microscopy. Dissolved oxygen (DO) and pH were determined by electrometric methods, whereas nutrient levels, silica and total organic carbon (TOC) were determined by instrumentation techniques. Results: Annual mean orthophosphate, nitrate and total organic carbon input from the three feeders within the catchment area of PdM reached levels as high as 0.09 mg/L, 0.4 mg/L and 2.62 ppm respectively. Over a 12-month period, mean TOC concentration in the reservoir was 2.32 ppm while the mean algal cell count was 4601 cells/mL. The dominant algal species identified were Oscillatoria, Cyclotella, Navicula and Cosmarium. Conclusion: This study highlights the trophic state of the reservoir water and clearly points to the need for constant monitoring in order to avoid the occurrence of an impending harmful algal bloom.
