  • Current controlled pulse width modulation(PWM) for voltage source inverter(VSI) is one of the control method which controls the current directly so that we can perform vector control because it reduces the orders of differential equations of the induction machine. This paper propose a Fuzzy current controlled PWM which properly minimize a current ripple using Fuzzy theory in a constant switching frequency. This technique is applied to an electrical drive system with an induction machine(IM) by simulation. By comparison with the known classical method such as ramp comparison, hysteresis band method, our contribution shows the better performances.

  • Equivalent series impedance of high-voltage pulsed power capacitor is one of the important electrical characteristics both for users and for capacitor manufacturers because it may have serious effects on the performance of pulse forming circuits. In this paper, definition of equivalent series impedance and factors which generate equivalent series impedance are reviewed. Theoretical analysis for the calculation of equivalent series impedance based on differential measurement method is described and calculation program has been developed. In order to acquire data which are necessary to calculate equivalent series impedance from discharging current waveform, charging-dischargig controller has been manufactured. Measurement results of equivalent series impedance for high voltage pulsed power capacitor have been given.

  • In this paper, we propose interface circuits for reducing power consumption and EMI when sequences of data from LCD controller to LCD driver IC by transmitting two bit data during one clock period. The proposed circuits are operated in current mode, which is different from conventional voltage-mode signaling techniques, and also employ threshold technique of Modified-LVDS(Low Voltage Differential Signaling) method. We have simulated the proposed circuits using H-SPICE tool for performance analysis of the proposed method. The simulation results show that the proposed circuits provide a faster transmission speed and stronger noise immunity than the conventional LVDS circuits. It might be suitable for the real-time transmission of huge image data in LCD system.

  • A mathematical modeling for a magnetic levitation system is proposed using the Taylor series expansion of differential function for obtaining linearity. It is confirmed that this kind of linear approximation method can be used to the modeling of a magnetic levitation system. The two-degree-of-freedom optimal servo system for a constant reference signal is proposed using the LQ optimization technique. An additional state feedback is introduced at the output of the integrator to cancel the integral action for reference signal if there is no modeling error of the plant and no disturbance input to the plant. When the modeling error or the disturbance input exists, the integral effect appears. The system has a free parameter which can b used to tune the effect of the integral compensation.

  • A numerical scheme is proposed to control the BBMB (Benjamin-Bona-Mahony-Burgers) equation, and the scheme consists of three steps. Firstly, BBMB equation is converted to a finite set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations by the quadratic B-spline finite element method in spatial. Secondly, the controller is designed based on the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) theory; Finally, the system of the closed loop compensator obtained on the basis of the previous two steps is solved by the backward Euler method. The controlled numerical solutions are obtained for various values of parameters and different initial conditions. Numerical simulations show that the scheme is efficient and feasible.

  • This paper describes a general method for the design of variable structure Model-Following Control systems (VSMFC). This design concept is developed using the theory of variable structure systems and slide mode. The feasibility and the advantages of the method are illustrated by applying it to a 1000 MWe Boiling Water Reactor. The control is studied in the range of 85 - 90 % of rated power for load-following control. A set of 12 nonlinear differential eq. are used to simulate the total plant. A 6th order linear model has been developed from these equations at 85% of rated power. The obtained controller is shown by simulations to be able to compensate for a plant parameter variation over a wide power range.

  • BPF(block pulse function) has been used widely in the system analysis and controller design. The integral operational matrix of BPF converts the system represented in the form of the differential equation into the algebraic problem. Therefore, it is important to reduce the error caused by the integral operational matrix. In this paper, a new integral operational matrix is derived from the approximating function using Lagrange's interpolation formula. Comparing the proposed integral operational matrix with another, the result by proposed matrix is closer to the real value than that by the conventional matrix. The usefulness of th proposed method is also verified by numerical examples.

  • This paper presents a digitally-controlled filter calibration technique for biquad RC filter using self oscillation. The biquad RC filter is converted to a fully-differential ring oscillator by changing its resistor connections, where the oscillation frequency reflects the cut-off frequency. The proposed calibration circuit measures the oscillation frequency by counting with a fixed higher-frequency clock and then tunes it to a desired frequency with a digital frequency-locked loop including a PI controller. Because the proposed circuit directly measures the cut-off frequency of the filter itself and calibrates it with the small area digital circuits, the area and the power consumption are much small compared with conventional works. When it is implemented in a 65nm CMOS process, the calibration circuit except the filter consumes the area of 80um X 50um and power consumption is 443uA at 1.2 V supply voltage.

An Application of Sliding Horizon Control to an Electro- Hydraulic Automotive Seat Simulator

  • The paper demonstrates the tracking performance of a sliding horizon feedback/feedforward preview optimal control when applied to a hydraulic motion simulator which has been built to provide a means of replicating the actual ride dynamics of an automobile seat/human system. The design was developed by solving an ordinary differential equation problem instead of a Ricatti equation. Simulation results indicate that the proposed technique has good performance improvement in phase tracking when compared to the classical design methods. It is also found that the controller can be adjusted more easily for robustness due to more tuning parameters.
