  • In this paper the capacity of Covariance Proper Transformation (CPT) analyses to provide information about the wind loading mechanisms of bluff bodies is investigated through the application to square cylinders. CPT is applied to the fluctuating pressure distributions on a single cylinder, as well as on a pair of cylinders in the tandem and side by side arrangements, with different separations. Both smooth and turbulent flow conditions are considered. First, through the analysis of the contributions of each CPT mode to the total fluctuating aerodynamic forces, a correspondence between modes and aerodynamic components is sought, which is then verified through examination of the mode shapes. When a correspondence between modes and aerodynamic components is found, an attempt is made to separate the different frequency contributions to the aerodynamic forces, provided by each mode. From the analyses it emerges that (a) in most cases each mode is associated to one single force component, that (b) retaining a limited number of modes allows reproducing the aerodynamic forces with a rather good accuracy, and that (c) each mode is mainly associated with one frequency of excitation.

  • The present article is aimed at an investigation of stresses produced in a microstretch elastic half-space due to a moving load. The expressions of normal stress, shear stress and tangential couple stress produced in this case have been obtained in closed form. To find the displacement fields the perturbation method is applied. Significant effect of moving load on variation of stresses developed at different depths below the surface due to the depth of substrate and frictional coefficient of the rough surface of the medium has been observed. The effects of different shapes of irregularity and depth of irregularity on normal, shear and tangential couple stresses have been discussed. Some particular cases have also been deduced from the present investigation. Finally, the analytical developments have been illustrated numerically for aluminium-epoxy-like material substrate under the action of moving load.

  • In domestic, irregular walls such as T, L, H and Box shapes are considered as rectangular wall in the design of bearing wall apartment building. The strengths of walls, therefore, can be underestimated in case of using the current design process. Irregular walls are connected to each other as rigid joint so that part of the load can be resisted by the wall perpendicular to the load direction. This resistance can be caused by the effective width of perpendicular wall. This additional resistance by the perpendicular wall increases the strength of structural walls. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effective widths of flanged walls with different aspect ratios by using FEM analyses. the results from finite element method are compared with effective flange widths of some code provisions.

  • The single layer latticed domes have various behaviors with each geometrical shape and scale, and they are affected by vertical component as well as horizontal component of the dynamic load. And they represent ye different earthquake responses under each ground acceleration compared with another structural systems. Generally, all of the members of latticed domes undergo three dimensional deflections if they are subjected to arbitrary one dimensional horizontal load under earthquake motions. And their response characteristics are very different to their shapes, rise/span ratios, and damping mechanisms. In this study, the earthquake response behavior is verified according to the factor of each shape, rise/span ratio, and damping ratio of latticed domes, which undergo horizontal and vertical earthquake motions by numerical approaches.

  • Many microelectronic devices are miniaturizing the capacitance density and the size of the capacitor. Along with this miniaturization of electronic circuits, tantalum (Ta) capacitors have been on the market due to its large demands worldwide and advantages such as high volumetric efficiency, low temperature coefficient of capacitance, high stability and reliability. During a tantalum capacitor manufacturing process, arc welding has been used to weld base frame and sub frame. This arc welding may have limitations since the downsizing of the weldment depends on the size of welding electrode and the contact time may prevent from improving productivity. Therefore, to solve these problems, this study applies laser spot welding to weld nickel (Ni) and Au-Sn-Ni alloy using CW IR fiber laser with lap joint geometry. All laser parameters are fixed and the only control variable is laser irradiance time. Four different shapes, such as no melting upper workpiece, asymmetric spherical-shaped weldment, symmetric weldment, and, excessive weldment, are observed. This shape may be due to different temperature distribution and flow pattern during the laser spot cutting.

  • While there are to estimating design discharge , we are in trouble with how to separate area, Because discharges will be different depending on the shape of area even though there are same size of area . This study is for a reasonable presentation of design discharge method where there are changing characteristcs of area with SCS and Clark theory by sung HEC-1 Model. While we were Estimating desgin discharge with separating area in a relation to Time of Concentration(Tc) with SCS , Clark method, we found that if there are no variation of Tc the value of a discharge is not changed where shapes of area are different though. And from the result of analysis with SCS and Clark method, we ascertained that discharge by the SCS method was more bigger than that of the Clark where Area is less than 100ha. On the other hand, Clark method is more bigger in the more 1000ha.

  • The roughness of Joomoonjin sand and the Dongchun river sand was analysed by the fractal theory. It was found that the fractal dimension(D$\_$F/) of Joomoonjin sand is a little smaller than the Dongchun river sand. That means Joomoonjin sand is smoother than the Dongchun river sand. The measurements of D$\_$F/ of different fraction of the Donchun river sand showed that large particles were rougher than fine particles. The shapes of both sands were analysed by the Discrete Fourier Transform(DFT) and the Grid-based(GB) method. Normalization of coefficients with respect to size, starting point and its orientation made the coefficients invaried to these characteristics. The mean of the normalized coefficients was used to reconstruct the average shape for both sands, respectively. The measurements of the ellipticity ratio of different fraction of both sands showed that Joomoonjin sand is slightly flatter than the Dongcun river sand.

  • In this paper, a new method for the estimation of the effect of DSM program is proposed. By identifying the learning curve of high efficient induction motor, the effect of DSM program applied to that product can be estimated. The learning curve of normal induction motor, to which no DSM program is applied, is identified also. Both learning curves, which are different shapes, means different teaming ratio. It can be concluded that DSM program makes the learning curve of the product change the shape. It also can be concluded that DSM program has influence on the sale of the product to which it is applied.

  • The free vibration of rotating Euler-Bernoulli beams with the thickness and/or width of the cross-section vary linearly along the length is investigated by using the Adomian modified decomposition method (AMDM). Based on the AMDM, the governing differential equation for the rotating tapered beam becomes a recursive algebraic equation. By using the boundary condition equations, the dimensionless natural frequencies and the closed form series solution of the corresponding mode shapes can be easily obtained simultaneously. The computed results for different taper ratios as well as different offset length and rotational speeds are presented in several tables and figures. The accuracy is assured from the convergence and comparison with the previous published results. It is shown that the AMDM provides an accurate and straightforward method of free vibration analysis of rotating tapered beams.

  • Recently there has been a great world-wide interest in developing and characterizing new nano-structured materials. These newly developed materials are often prepared in limited quantities and shapes unsuitable for the extensive mechanical testing. The development of depth sensing indentation methods have introduced the advantage of load and depth measurement during the indentation cycle. In the present work, ZnO thin films are prepared on Si(111), Si(100) substrates at different temperatures by pulsed laser deposition(PLD) method. Because the potential energy in c-axis is low, the films always show c-axis orientation at the optimized conditions in spite of the different substrates. Thin films are investigated by X-ray diffractometer and Nano indentation equipment. From these measurements it is possible to get elastic modulus and hardness of ZnO thin films on Si substrates.
