Mini implants had been used provisionally for the healing period of implants in the beginning. But it becomes used for the on-going purpose, because it is simple to use, economic and especially suitable for the overdenture. But there is few studies about the stability of mini implants, that is most important factor for the on-going purpose, and particularly the implant parameters affecting the initial stability. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the stress and the strain distribution pattern of immediate-loaded screw type orthodontic mini-implant and the parameters affecting the initial stability of immediate-loaded mini-implant. Two dimensional finite element models were made and contact non-linear finite element analysis was performed. The magnitude and distribution of Von Mises stresses were evaluated. The obtained results were as follows: 1. The stress was concentrated on the thread tip of an implant in the cortical bone. 2. The direction of load is the most important factor for the stress distribution in cortical bone. 3. The diameter of an implant is the most important factor for the stress distribution in the trabecular bone. In conclusion, if the horizontal load vector is successfully controlled, mini-implants, which diameter is under 3mm, can be used for the on-going purpose.

In this study, the effect of stem-end design on contact pressure and stress distribution in revision TKR was investigated using finite element method. The finite element model of tibia, including the cortical bone, the cancellous bone and canal, was developed based on CT images. The implant models with various stem lengths, diameters, friction coefficients, and press-fit effects were considered. The results showed that the longer stem length, the stronger press-fit, the bigger stem diameter, and the higher friction coefficient increased both peak contact pressure and Von-Mises stress distributions. The results supported the clinical hypothesis that peak contact pressure and stress are related to the stem end pain. The results of this study will be useful to design the stem and reduce the end-of-stem pain in revision TKR.
In this paper, the evaluation of diameter, global velocity, global roughness coefficients of the water distribution pipes are examined by using pressure and flowrate measurements in selected points of the network. The selected pipe network parameters are determined through reformulation of the continuity and energy equation. Additional energy equation is considered to analyze the coefficient matrix. The resulting nonlinear equations are solved by using Newton Raphson method. Three computer models with complex pipe system are used to demonstrate these procedures. The computed results of hydraulic parameters show good agreements with KYPIPE2 flow analysis model.
Rock bolts are widely used as a supplementary roof support system in hard-rock mining since a long time. Since the performance of fully grouted passive bolts depends on bond strength, in the present investigation extensive laboratory pull-out as well as push-out tests were conducted varying the bolt diameter, length and cement-water mixing ratios of grout. The load-displacement curves were developed and were verified with the numerical results obtained from finite element analysis using ALGOR software. Numerical models were validated for push-out tests and a detailed analysis was carried out to know the displacement, stress, strain distribution along the bolt.

A numerical study was performed to predict refrigerant charge amount in a mini-channel condenser for a R410A residential air-conditioning system. Multi-channel flat tubes with 12 mini-channels of 1.17 mm average hydraulic diameter for each tube were applied to the condenser. The condenser consisted of 3 passes, and the first, second, and third pass had 44, 19, and 11 tubes, respectively. Each pass was connected by a vertical header. In this study, the condenser was divided into 410 finite volumes, and analyzed by an $\varepsilon$-NTU method. With thermophysical properties and void fraction models for each volume element, the R410A amount distribution and a total charge amount in the condenser were calculated. The predicted total charge amount was compared with the experimentally measured charge amount under a standard ARI A condition. The developed model could predict the charge amount in the mini-channel condenser within prediction errors from -23.9% to -3.0%. Air velocity distribution at the condenser face was considered as non-uniform and uniform by the simulation model, and its results showed that the air velocity distribution could significantly influence the charge amount and vapor phase distribution in the condenser.

This study investigates the properties of a high-performance cementitious composite with partial substitution of stone dust for fine aggregate. The relationship between the properties and particle size distribution was analyzed using several analytical models. Experiments were carried out to examine the flowability, rheology, and strength of cement mortars with different stone-dust replacement ratios of 0-30 wt.%. The results showed improved flowability, lower rheological parameters (yield stress and plastic viscosity), and improved strength as the amount of stone dust increased. These results are closely related to the packing density of the solid particles in the mortar. The effect was therefore estimated by introducing an optimum particle size distribution (PSD) model for maximum packing density. The PSD with a higher amount of stone dust was closer to the optimum PSD, and the optimization was quantified using RMSE. The improvement in the PSD by the stone dust was proven to affect the flowability, strength, and plastic viscosity based on several relevant analytical models. The reduction in yield stress is related to the increase of the average particle diameter when using stone dust.

The purpose of this study is to estimate diameter distribution, volume per hectare, and carbon stock for Quercus variabilis stand. 354 Quercus variabilis stands were selected on the basis of age and structure, the data and samples for these stands are collected. For the prediction of diameter distribution, Weibull model was applied and for the estimation of the parameters, a simplified method-of-moments was applied. To verify the accuracy of estimates, models were developed using 80% of the total data and validation was done on the remaining 20%. For the verification of the model, the fitness index, the root mean square error, and Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistics were used. The fitness index of the site index, height, and volume equation estimated from verification procedure were 0.967, 0.727, and 0.988 respectively and the root mean square error were 2.763, 1.817, and 0.007 respectively. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test applied to Weibull function resulted in 75%. From the models developed in this research, the estimated volume and above-ground carbon stock were derived as $188.69m^3/ha$, 90.30 tC/ha when site index and stem number of 50-years-old Quercus variabilis stand show 14 and 697 respectively. The results obtained from this study may provide useful information about the growth of broad-leaf species and prediction of carbon stock for Quercus variabilis stand.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of partial osseointegration situation on bone loading patterns around two different free-standing screw shaped implants (Nobel Biocare, Gothenburg, Sweden and Degussa-Huls, Hanau, German). Two dimensional axisymmetric Finite element models of two implants(10mm length and 4mm diameter) were created according to different bone quantity, quality and osseointegration ratio in maxilla and mandible bone. At the same time uni-cortical and hi-cortical fixation were analyzed. Generally, full bond case showed less stress than partial bond case in overall area and mandibular model showed less amount of stress than that of maxilla model. Maximum stress of the Branemark implant is higher than that of ANKYLOS regardless of bonding ratio at crestal and apex region. However, more stress concentration was noted in ANKYLOS implant at screw body area especially in mandible. The effect of bicortical fixation on crestal bone stress reduction is dramatical in mandible however, there was no significant effect in maxillary case. The effect of partial bond on stress distribution was more significant at screw body and apex region than in crestal region. Partial bond cases demonstrated greater stress accumulation in trabecular bone than cortical bone. It is concluded that the more accurate model of implant and bone which affects stress and strain distribution is needed to mimic in vivo behavior of implants.

Sky simulator is a effective daylighting design tool that can evaluate three dimensional performance of lighting. Especially, the dome type sky simulator offer reliable and reproducible daylighting performance with different standard sky models. Recently, K university has developed the dome type sky simulator(sky dome) with the diameter of 6.5m and the height of 3.7m. The sky dome consists of a group of 145 large steel panels with 72 halogen lamps which are arranged in a circular array. The luminance distribution of the sky dome can be calibrated by changing the angle and the brightness of the lamps respectively. To allow more reliable prediction and evaluation of daylighting through the sky dome, It is essential to validate the sky luminance distribution of the sky dome. This study consider the validation of the comparisons between the measured and the calculated luminance values for the CIE standard overcast sky. Also, the error rate between the measured and the calculated luminance values were compared to the previous studies. The results indicated that the K university sky dome can reproduce reliable CIE standard overcast sky with the average relative error rate of 4.4% and root-mean-square error(RMSE) of 5.4%.
