Support vector machine (SVM) is introduced as an effective fault diagnosis technique based on dissolved gases analysis (DGA) for oil-immersed transformers with maximum generalization ability; however, the applicability of the SVM is highly affected due to the difficulty of selecting the SVM parameters appropriately. Therefore, a novel approach combing SVM with improved imperialist competitive algorithm (IICA) for fault diagnosis of oil-immersed transformers was proposed in the paper. The improved ICA, which is proved to be an effective optimization approach, is employed to optimize the parameters of SVM. Cross validation and normalizations were applied in the training processes of SVM and the trained SVM model with the optimized parameters was established for fault diagnosis of oil-immersed transformers. Three classification benchmark sets were studied based on particle swarm optimization SVM (PSOSVM) and IICASVM with four multiple classification schemes to select the best scheme for transformer fault diagnosis. The results show that the proposed model can obtain higher diagnosis accuracy than other methods. The comparisons confirm that the proposed model is an effective approach for classification problems.

This paper describes a predictive fault diagnosis algorithm for autonomous vehicles based on a kinematic model that uses a sliding mode observer. To ensure the safety of autonomous vehicles, reliable information about the environment and vehicle dynamic states is required. A predictive algorithm that can interactively diagnose longitudinal environment and vehicle acceleration information is proposed in this paper to evaluate the reliability of sensors. To design the diagnosis algorithm, a longitudinal kinematic model is used based on a sliding mode observer. The reliability of the fault diagnosis algorithm can be ensured because the sliding mode observer utilized can reconstruct the relative acceleration despite faulty signals in the longitudinal environment information. Actual data based performance evaluations are conducted with various fault conditions for a reasonable performance evaluation of the predictive fault diagnosis algorithm presented in this paper. The evaluation results show that the proposed diagnosis algorithm can reasonably diagnose the faults in the longitudinal environment and acceleration information for all fault conditions.
Method for performance monitoring and diagnosis of a MIMO control system has been studied aiming at application to model predictive control (MPC) for industrial processes. The performance monitoring part is designed on the basis of the traditional SPC/SQC method. To meet the underlying premise of Schwart chart observation that the observed variable should be univariate and independent, the process variables are decorrelated temporally as well as spatially before monitoring. The diagnosis part was designed to identify the root of performance degradation among the controller, process, and disturbance. For this, a method to estimate the model-error and disturbance signal has been devised. The proposed methods were evaluated through numerical examples.
In mass production industries such as steel making that have large equipment, sudden stops of production process due to machine failure can cause severe problems. To prevent such situations, machine diagnosis techniques play important roles. Many methods have been developed focusing on this subject. In this paper, we propose a method for the early detection of the failure on rotating machine, which is the most common theme in the machine failure detection field. A simplified method of calculating autocorrelation function is introduced and is utilized for ARMA model identification. Furthermore, an absolute deterioration factor such as Bicoherence is introduced. Machine diagnosis can be executed by this simplified calculation method of system parameter distance with weight. Proposed method proved to be a practical index for machine diagnosis by numerical examples.
Diagnosability is an important factor in measuring the reliability of an interconnection network. Typical models of fault diagnosis are the PMC and the comparison diagnosis model. In this paper, we prove that the regular network Hyper-Star HS(2n,n) under two models is n-diagnosable.

Electro-hydraulic brake system has many advantages. It provides improved braking performance and stability functions. It also removes complex mechanical parts for freedom of design, improves maintenance requirements and reduces unit weight. However, the EHB system should be dependable and have back-up redundancy in case of a failure. In this paper, the model-based fault diagnosis system is developed to monitor the brake status using the analytical redundancy method. The performance of the model-based fault diagnosis system is verified in real-time simulation. It demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed system in various faulty cases.

In this paper an ANFIS(Adativo Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System)- based fault detection and diagnosis for a closed loop control system is proposed. The proposed diagnostic system contains two ANFIS. One is run as a parallel model within the model in closed loop control(MCL) and the other is run as a series-parallel model within the process in closed loop(PCL) for the generation of relevant symptoms for fault diagnosis. These symptoms are further processed by another classification logic with simple rules and neural network for process and controller fault diagnosis. Experimental results for a DC shunt motor control system illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed diagnostic scheme.

In recent years, a pattern recognition method has been widely used by researchers for fault diagnoses of mechanical systems. A pattern recognition method determines the soundness of a mechanical system by detecting variations in the system's vibration characteristics. Hidden Markov model has recently been used as pattern recognition methods in various fields. In this study, a HMM method for the fault diagnosis of a mechanical system is introduced, and a rotating machine with mass unbalance is selected for fault diagnosis. Moreover, a diagnosis procedure to identity the size of a defect is proposed in this study.
In the field of fault diagnosis, the deviations from normal operating conditions are monitored to identify the type of faults and find their root causes. One of the most representative methods is the statistical approaches, due to a large amount of advantages. However, ambiguous diagnosis results can be generated according to fault magnitudes, even if the same fault occurs. To tackle this issue, this work proposes principal component analysis (PCA) based method with qualitative information. The PCA model is constructed under normal operation data and the residuals from faulty conditions are calculated. The significant changes of these residuals are recorded to make the information for identifying the types of fault. This model can be employed easily and the tasks for building are smaller than these of other common approaches. The efficacy of the proposed model is illustrated in Tennessee Eastman process.

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a comorbidity of COVID-19; therefore, routine early diagnosis is crucial. A large number of examination attributes in the context of diagnosing CHD is a distinct obstacle during the pandemic when the number of health service users is significant. The development of a precise machine learning model for diagnosis with a minimum number of examination attributes can allow examinations and healthcare actions to be undertaken quickly. This study proposes a CHD diagnosis model based on feature selection, data balancing, and ensemble-based classification methods. In the feature selection stage, a hybrid SVM-GA combined with fast correlation-based filter (FCBF) is used. The proposed system achieved an accuracy of 94.60% and area under the curve (AUC) of 97.5% when tested on the z-Alizadeh Sani dataset and used only 8 of 54 inspection attributes. In terms of performance, the proposed model can be placed in the very good category.
