Background: The light-emitting diode (LED) curing light used is presumed to be safe. However, the scientific basis for this is unclear, and the safety of LED curing light is still controversial. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of LED curing light irradiation according to the conditions applied for the polymerization of composite resins in dental clinic on the cell viability and inflammatory response in Raw264.7 macrophages and to confirm the stability of LED curing light. Methods: Cell viability and cell morphology of Raw264.7 macrophages treated with 100 ng/ml of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or/and LED curing light with a wavelength of 440~490 nm for 20 seconds were confirmed by methylthiazolydiphenyl-tetrazolium bromide assay and microscopic observation. The production of nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin $E_2$ ($PGE_2$) was confirmed by NO assay and $PGE_2$ enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit. Expression of interleukin $(IL)-1{\beta}$ and tumor necrosis factor $(TNF)-{\alpha}$ in total RNA and protein was confirmed by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and Western blot analysis. Results: The LED curing light did not affect the viability and morphology of normal Raw264.7 cells but affected the cell viability and induced cytotoxicity in the inflammation-induced Raw264.7 cells by LPS. The irradiation of the LED curing light did not progress to the inflammatory state in the inflammation-induced Raw264.7 macrophage. However, LED curing light irradiation in normal Raw264.7 cells induced an increase in NO and $PGE_2$ production and mRNA and protein expression of $(IL)-1{\beta}$ and $(TNF)-{\alpha}$, indicating that it is possible to induce the inflammatory state. Conclusion: The irradiation of LED curing light in RAW264.7 macrophage may induce an excessive inflammatory reaction and damage oral tissues. Therefore, it is necessary to limit the long-term irradiation which is inappropriate when applying LED curing light in a dental clinic.

We investigated the developmental characteristics and life cycle of the lawn cutworm, Spodoptera depravata (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), which is one of the most important pests causing economic damage in grass production. For larval culture, we provided the zoysiagrass at $25^{\circ}C$ and $60{\pm}5%$ humidity. The durations of the developmental stages were as follows: $4.11{\pm}0.19$ days for eggs, $25.17{\pm}3.02$ for larvae, $8.80{\pm}0.28$ for pupae, and $7.57{\pm}0.95$ for adults. We grew the larvae to the 7th instar stage, unlike previous studies, in which it was assumed that the 6th instar was the final age. There was a significant positive correlation between the body length and head capsule width of each instar larvae. In terms of morphology, the eggs changed from light green immediately following oviposition to black as they developed, and the grass-fed larvae changed from light yellow immediately after hatching to green as development continued. We observed a pattern of black spots at regular intervals on the dorsal sides of the abdomens of the final instar larvae. Furthermore, we detected two notable designs on the dorsal side of the front of the head. The pupal colors changed from light brown and green immediately after pupation, to dark brown as the pupal cuticle hardened. The wingspans of the adults were similar in both sexes. However, the forewings of the males had obvious outer lines and eyespots with dark gray-brown backgrounds, whereas the corresponding features on the female forewings were less obvious. The oviposition preperiod was 2.11 days, the oviposition period was 4.2 days, the average fecundity per female was approximately 341 eggs, and the hatching rate was approximately 76.1%.

Phthalates and their metabolites are well-known endocrine disrupting chemicals. Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) has been widely used in industry and the exposing possibility to adult is high. In this study, DEHP was treated (133 ㎍/L and 1,330 ㎍/L in drinking water) according to the OECD test guideline 443 to mature female mice and their adrenal gland were examined for histological characteristics and steroidogenic gene expression. The wet weight of the adrenal gland was increased in all administrated groups compared to control. The diameter of zona fasciculata (ZF) was increased by DEHP in both outer ZF and inner ZF but there was no difference in morphology of the cells and arrangements into zona between groups. In addition, the arrangement of extracellular matrix was not different between control and DEHP groups. CYP11B1 was mainly localized at ZF and the intensity was not different between groups. DAX1 was localized in zona glomerulosa (ZG) and ZF, and its expression levels were decreased by DEHP administration. Its level was lower in DEHP133 group than DEHP1330 group. On the other hand, CYP17A1 was localized in ZG of DEHP1330 group. These results suggest that chronic low-dose DEHP exposing may modify the microstructure and function of the adrenal cortical cortex.
The eco-toxicological effects of endocrine disrupter, 4-nonylphenol (4NP) were observed and detected on the harpacticoid copepod, Tigriopus japonicus s.l. obtained and cultur-ed from our coast. There were no significant differences survival rate, sex ratio, and fecundity on T. japonicus s.l. at as low as $30{\mu}gL^{-1}$ of 4 NP exposure. Whereas, 4NP induced developmental delay, decreasing biomass and body size of nauplius and copepodite. Also, Differentially Expressed Gene (DEG) was conducted to detecting gene expression for potential biomarkers response to 4NP. As a result, full lifecycle research on morphology and gene expression of T. japonicus s.l. suggested potential bioindicators or biomarkers for environmental monitoring and assessments.
Rising of water temperature due to global warming is a great concern to aquaculturists and fishery biologists. Hence, the present study aimed to investigate the effects of high water temperature on juvenile red spotted grouper, Epinephelus akaara based on the evaluation of stress responses in blood. E. akaara juveniles were exposed to different thermal conditions ($25^{\circ}C$, $28^{\circ}C$, $31^{\circ}C$, and $34^{\circ}C$) for 6 weeks following 2 weeks of acclimation at $25^{\circ}C$. Blood cell morphology and number were examined at three sampling points (2, 7, and 42 days) from a total of 180 fish. Major erythrocytic cellular abnormalities (ECA) observed in blood smears of thermally stressed groups ($31^{\circ}C$ and $34^{\circ}C$) after 6 weeks were echinocytes, teardrop-like cells, swollen cells and vacuolated cells. Both red and white blood cell number (RBC and WBC) were significantly (p<0.05) elevated in $31^{\circ}C$ and $34^{\circ}C$ group after 6 weeks thermal exposure. Differential leucocytes number showed significant increases in neutrophil (N) and decreases in lymphocytes (L) in the highest temperature ($34^{\circ}C$). Different N:L ratio was observed at different thermal conditions which can be used as a reliable alternative to measure stress response. Taken together, these results suggest that higher temperature ($31^{\circ}C$ and $34^{\circ}C$) can interfere the immune system of red spotted grouper by altering the blood cell morphology and number.
The study was carried out to investigate the effects of morphology, reproductive cycle, incubation time and activation of oocytes in vitro maturation of cats oocytes and development of IVM/IVF embryos. The rate of oocytes with cumulus cells(13.3%∼65.7%) was higher than that of denuded oocytes(3.3%∼28.6%). 2. The fertilization and developmental rate of oocytes recovered from ovaries collected at different stages of the reproductive cycle were 68.9%, 44.4%, 48.9% and 17.8%, 8.9%, 12.8%, respectively. 3. The fertilization and developmental rate of oocytes in vitro cultured at different time of incubation(24, 36 and 48 h) were 66.7%, 46.7%, 48.9% and 17.8%, 11.1%, 8.5%, respectively. respectively. The rate of oocytes incubated 24 h(66.7%) was higher than that oocytes incubated 36 and 48 h(46.7%∼48.9%). 4. The fertilization and developmental rate of oocytes treated activation and non-activation oocytes were 57.4%, 31.4% and 22.9%, 11.4%, respectively. The rate of oocytes treated activation was higher than that oocyte treat non-activation.
We have launched an investigation for Embryonic Development, Larvae and Juvenile Morphology, of Buenos aires tetra in order to build basic data of Characidae and fish seeding production. We brought 50 couples of Characidae from Bizidduck aquarium in Yeosu-si, Jeollanamdo, from Korea on March of 2015. We put them in the tetragonal glass aquarium ($50{\times}50{\times}30cm$). Breeding water temperature was $27.5{\sim}28.5^{\circ}C$ (mean $28.0{\pm}0.05^{\circ}C$) and being maintained. The shape of fertilized egg was round shape, and it was adhesive demersal egg. The egg size was 0.63~0.91 mm (mean $0.74{\pm}0.07mm$, n=20). After getting fertilized egg, the developmental stage was gastrula stage, and embryo covered almost two-thirds of Yolk. Incubation was happened after 16 hours 13 minutes from gastrula stage, and the tail of juvenile came out first with tearing egg capsule. Immediately after the incubation, prelarvae had 3.78~3.88 mm length (mean $3.84{\pm}0.04mm$, n=5), and it had no mouth and anus yet. 34 days after hatching from the incubation, juvenile had 8.63~13.1 mm (mean $10.9{\pm}1.66mm$), and it had similar silver-colored body shape with its mother.
Morphological characteristics and life cycle of Parnara guttata were studied from 2001 to 2002. Egg was hemisphere-shaped in pink. Larva was milky white or yellowish green color with 2.9-30.6 nm body length, depending on their developmental stages from 1 st to 5th instar. Pupa were grayish brown from 23.8 to 25.7 nm length, adults were yellowish brown color and body lengths were 17.4 nm and 16.2 nm and wing expanse lengths were 35.2 nm and 30.6 nm with female and male, respectively. At 25${\pm}$2$^{\circ}C$, each developmental periods was 4.5, 30.2, and 6.9 days with egg, larvae, and pupae, respectively. Also adult longevity were 10.1 for female, average number of egg was 205.5.
Life cycle and host plants of Scotinophara lurida(BURMEISTER) were studied from 1999 to 2001. Egg of S. lurida was oval-shaped with light-gray in color. Nymphs were reddish brown, dark brown, and brown, and the body was 1.19~7.24mm long, depending on their developmental stages from the 1st to the 5th instar. Adults were black and the body were 9.34mm and 8.47mm long in female laid 30.7 eggs in average for its life span. Developmental period was 4.3 days for eggs, and 45.8 days for nymphs. Total 9 host plant species was identified by the greenhouse observation in Chungbuk province.

Measurements were made on morphology of each developmental stages of the chestnut weevil, Curculio sikkimensis, reared in the laboratory and field from 2003 to 2006. The size of egg was 0.8${\pm}$0.03 mm. The escaping larvae were measured, in average, as 98 mg in body weight, 10.65 and 3.99 mm in body length and width, and 1.70 mm in head width. Pupal size of female and male was 7.01 and 6.53 mm, respectively. The fresh weight (0.343 g), body length (7.76 mm) and width (3.38 mm), and head width (1.60 mm) of female adults were significantly bigger than those (0.268 g, 7.14 mm, 3.01 mm and 1.37 mm, respectively) of male adults. Proboscis length (6.53 mm) and antennal length (5.47 mm) of female was also significantly longer than those (3.56 and 4.63 mm, respectively) of male. The larvae of C. sikkimensis overwintered for 1~3 years and their body weight, body length, and body width were decreased. The ratio between proboscis length and body length, the basipodite position attached to the proboscis, and shape of the sex organ on the abdominal end could be used to discriminate sexes.
