  • In this experiment, three kinds of mutations(ge, re, and eml )relating to the size of embryos were used to study their generation, genetic mechanism and developmental characteristics, and the interactions between embryo and endosperm were also examined. Giant embryo mutation comprises 7 kinds including the already isolated ge, and ge-2, which share an identical gene site. The SAM and the size of radicule for the ge showed little difference compared to a normal type. The number of embryo cells did not increased as much as it would affect the size of embryo. Therefore, the enlargement of embryo was due to the enlargement of scutellum that originated from the corpulence of each cell. Both F$_1$' s of re ]and odm 49 formed reduce embryos, and other combinations of hybridization showed all wild type of embryo sizes. Accordingly, the odm 49 must have an identical gene site of re 1, while odm 48 and odm 62 have different gene sites. Their shoots and radicules also shrank by the same ratio, however no sign of physical change was noticed. The size of embryo cell showed no change, while the number of cells was the half of that of wild types. The three gene sites of re represent all of them control the size of the entire embryo forming organs. The eml 1 was defined to have temperature sensibilities that the generation of endosperms was active at a high temperature while that was hampered at a low temperature.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the developmental relationship between the maxillary primary central incisors and their permanent successor. The auther took 315 cases of lateral cephalogram of the children (males were 171, females were 141) Angular change of the teeth and horizontal and vertical linear change were observed. The obtained results were as follows: 1. The inclination of the long axes of both incisor teeth was relatively stable and labio-version of both incisore was significant at 7 years of age. 2. The distance between the incisal edge of the permanent central insisor and the resorbing apex of the primary maxillary central incisor remained within 2mm of each other, 3. Vertical growth of the maxillary anterior portion was greater than horizontal growth from 6 to 7 years of age. 4. There was not a significant sexual difference.

  • The Ovarian developmental phases of the reproductive cycle of Rapana venosa can be classified into five successive stages by histological study: early active stage (September to February), late active stage (December to April), ripe stage (March to July), partially spawned stage (May to August), and recovery stage (June to September). To understand the characteristics of nutrient storage and utilization in the digestive gland cells with ovarian developmental phases, we examined the digestive gland - which is the major nutrient supply organ associated with ovarian development of the female purple shell - by biochemical methods. Total protein contents in the digestive gland tissues increased in March (late active stage) and reached the maximum in May (ripe and partially spawned stages), and then their levels sharply decreased in July (partially spawned and recovery stages). Total lipid contents in the digestive gland tissues reached the maximum in January (early active stage). Thereafter, their levels rapidly decreased from May (ripe and partially spawned stages) and reached a minimum in July (partially spawned and recovery stages). The total DNA contents did not significantly change regardless of the different developmental stages of the ovary. However, it was also found from biochemical analysis that changes in total RNA content follow the same seasonal cycling to protein. These results indicate that the digestive gland is an important energy storage and supply organ in purple shells, and that the nutrient contents of the digestive gland change in response to gonadal energy needs.

  • Two thousand-two hundred-forty-three cases of various lesions of the oral and maxillofacial region in children under 16 years of age were reviewed. The lesions were classified by 10 groups; osteomyelitis, cysts, benign tumors, malignant tumors, fibro-osseous lesions, developmental disturbances, antral lesions, TMJ lesions, salivary gland lesions, and other lesions. The obtained results were as follows; 1. Developmental disturbances, especially cleft alveolus and palate, was the most common lesions (25.7%), followed by cysts (22.5%), antral lesions (12.7%), benign tumors (11.9%) and osteomyelitis (9.3%). 2. With the time, the incidence of osteomyelitis and malignant tumors has been decreased, but that of developmental disturbances, cysts and antral lesions has been increased. 3. The sex distribution was relatively equal for the entire series, with male predominence in cysts, malignant tumors, developmental disturbanes and salivary gland lesions and with female predominence in TMJ lesions. 4. Children with malignant tumors and osteomyelitis were somewhat younger and those with TMJ lesions were somewhat older. 5. Heading the list of each group except osteomyelitis was dentigerous cyst, odontoma, malignant lymphoma, fibrous dysplasia, cleft alveolus and palate, inflammatory change, degenerative change of condylar process, sialolithiasis and simple bone cyst respectively.

  • There is still debate over which method of the surgery is the most appropriate for the treatment of scaphocephalic infants. In addition, change in psychomotor development following these procedures is a very complex issue that has not yet been resolved. In this paper, the authors describe a surgical technique for immediate spontaneous shape correction of infantile scaphocephaly. There were significant differences between pre- and postoperative cephalic index. We also describe an improvement in the developmental quotient following surgery. Therefore, this expantile zigzag craniectomy should be recommended to correct for isolated sagittal craniosynostosis in infants.

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of commercially available calamansi soju and other alcoholic beverages on the microhardness and erosion of resin restorations. Methods: In this study, we evaluated the effects of Calamansi soju, Chamisul fresh, Cass fresh, and Gancia Moscato D'asti on resin restorations. Jeju Samdasoo and Coca-Cola were used as negative and positive controls, respectively. Specimens to be immersed in the beverages were manufactured using composite resin according to the product instructions. In each group, the surface microhardness was measured using a surface microhardness instrument before and after immersion for 5, 15, 30, and 60 minutes. The pattern of change in the surface of the composite resin was observed under a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Paired t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and repeated measures ANOVA were performed to compare the surface microhardness of the specimens, and the Tukey test was used as a post hoc test. Results: The pH of all beverages except Jeju Samdasoo was <5.5, which is the critical pH that can induce erosion. The difference in surface microhardness of the composite resin before and after immersion for 60 minutes was significant in all groups. In particular, the largest change in surface microhardness was observed in the calamansi soju group. In the SEM analysis, loss of composite resin was observed in all groups except the Jeju Samdasoo group, and rough surfaces with pores of various sizes were observed. Conclusion: In this study, all beverages except Jeju Samdasoo decreased the microhardness of the composite resin surface, and it was confirmed that calamansi soju had the greatest change.

  • In patients with a language developmental delay, it is necessary to make a differential diagnosis for autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), specific language impairment, and mental retardation. It is important that pediatricians recognize the signs and symptoms of ASDs, as many patients with language developmental delays are ultimately diagnosed with ASDs. Pediatricians play an important role in the early recognition of ASDs, because they are usually the first point of contact for children with ASDs. A revision of the diagnostic criteria of ASDs was proposed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition (DSM-5) that was released in May 2013. The autism spectrum describes a range of conditions classified as neurodevelopmental disorders in the fifth edition of the DSM. The new diagnostic criteria encompasses previous elements from the diagnosis of autistic disorder, Asperger disorder, childhood disintegrative disorder, and pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified. An additional change to the DSM includes synthesizing the section on social and communication deficits into one domain. In ASD patients, the appropriate behavioral therapies and rehabilitation treatments significantly affect the prognosis. Therefore, this makes early diagnosis and treatment very important. In conclusion, pediatricians need to be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of ASDs and be attentive to them in order to make an early diagnosis and provide treatment.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the developmental changes about self-perception from childhood to adult period. The subjects were 365 of 5th graders in elementary school, the 2nd graders in junior and senior high school, sophomore in college, and adults. The instruments used for this study were Harter's Self-Perception Profile for the children, adolescences, college students, and adults. The results were as follows. 1. From elementary school to junior high school, the score of scholastic, athletic, physical appearance, behavioral conduct, and global self-worth were decreased. At the developmental perspective, the junior high school students were highly anxious for self-perception. 2. Physical appearance were the best predictor of the global self-worth for all developmental stages. 3. Physical appearance, behavioral conduct predicted more about the global self-worth than any other factors for elementary and junior high school students. And for junior high school students, social acceptance and friendship also predicted about the global self-worth. Scholastic competence showed higher correlation with global self-worth for the senior high school and college students than elementary and junior high school students. 4. For college students, males had higer scores than females on ability-oriented but also relationship-oriented subscales. But the adults showed no differences in nurturance, household management, job competence depending on sex.

  • The agricultural tourism is something that urban people can have an experience of the traditional culture and knowledge of the agriculture, so that it result the improvement of the agricultural profit and keep the special agricultural system. Recently, the demand of the agricultural tourism was increasing, but it was not really enough today that the practice of the tourism for essential farm experience or physical plan. The experiments were practiced by a land in Sucheong-li, Namjong-myun, Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do which provides the program for the basic plan and management of the experiential farm, so it shows a developmental model of that typical farm. The basic design of developmental model was formed by the analysis of the natural, civilized and visual environments. The site plan for the experiential farm was composed of a parking lot, public facilities, resting place, experiential site, sports facilities and pedestrian space. There was an examination that the activation of experiential farm should change the concept of the big production or labor-focused farm from a tourism-focused form.
