  • It has been repeatedly reported that a drainage system of a drained tunnel is deteriorated. And consequently the water pressure on the lining increases with time. However, little research on the watertight tunnel was found in the literatures. According to field measurements, leakage of the undrained tunnel has increased with time, which is completely opposite to the behavior of the drained tunnel. It is evident that the hydraulic deterioration of the tunnel lining changes the water pressure on the lining and the amount of leakage, thus the design coneept in terms of groundwater is not maintained tightly throughout the life time of the tunnel. The Segment lining is generally constructed as watertight. However, it is frequently reported that the leakage in the segment tunnel increases with time. It is also reported that the leakage is generally concentrated at the joints of the segments. In this study structural and hydraulic interaetion of the segment lining due to the hydraulic deterioration of the segments and the joints is investigated using the numerical modeling method. An electric utility tunnel below groundwater table is considered for the analyses. The effects of hydraulic deterioration of the segment lining are identified in terms of ground loading, water pressure and lining behavior. A remedial grouting measure for leakage is also numerically simulated, and its appropriateness is evaluated.

  • The manufacturing facility is generally operated by a pre-set program under the existing factory automation system. On the other hand, the manufacturing facility must decide how to operate autonomously in Industry 4.0. Determining the operation mode of the production facility itself means, for example, that it detects the abnormality such as the deterioration of the facility at the shop-floor, prediction of the occurrence of the problem, detection of the defect of the product, In this paper, we propose a manufacturing process modeling using a queue for detection of manufacturing process abnormalities at the shop-floor, and detect abnormalities in the modeling using SVM, one of the machine learning techniques. The queue was used for M / D / 1 and the conveyor belt manufacturing system was modeled based on ${\mu}$, ${\lambda}$, and ${\rho}$. SVM was used to detect anomalous signs through changes in ${\rho}$.

  • Prediction the performance of pavement provides proper information to an agency on decision-making process; especially evaluating the pavement performance and prioritizing the work plan. To date, there are a number of approaches to predict the future deterioration of pavements. However, there are some limitation to proper prediction of the pavement service life. In this paper, pavement performance model and pavement condition prediction model are developed in order to improve pavement condition prediction method. The prediction model of pavement condition through the regression analysis of real pavement condition is based on the probability distribution of pavement condition, which set to 5%, 15%, 25% and 50%, by condition of the pavement and traffic volume. The pavement prediction model presented from the behavior of individual pavement condition which are set to 5%, 15%, 25% and 50% of probability distribution. The performance of the prediction model is evaluated from analyzing the average, standard deviation of HPCI, and the percentage of HPCI which is lower than 3.0 of comparable section. In this paper, we will suggest the more rational method to determine the future pavement conditions, including the probabilistic duration and deterministic modeling methods regarding the impact of traffic volume, age, and the type of the pavement.

  • Deterioration is accelerated due to additional intrusion of chloride ion in crack width in cracked concrete. In this paper, modeling on equivalent diffusion coefficient in cracked concrete is performed for 1-D (Anisotropic) and 2-D (Isotropic) diffusion based on steady state condition. In the previous research, rectangular shape of crack was considered but the shape was modified to wedge shape with torturity. For verification of the proposed model, crack is induced in concrete sample and migration test in steady state is performed for 1-D diffusion. For 2-D diffusion, previous test results are adopted for verification. Through considering wedge shape of crack with torturity, diffusion coefficients in 1-D and 2-D diffusion are reduced, and the more reasonable prediction is obtained. The results from the proposed model with torturity of 0.10~0.15 are shown to be in the best agreement with the test results.

  • Reinforced concrete columns exposed to fire experience severe deterioration in material properties and subsequent structural capacities. Degree of losses in structural capacity of a column due to fire-damage mainly depends on the amount of heat transferred into the column during the fire. A reasonable heat transfer model of fire-damaged reinforced concrete column needs to take into account the heat-dependent nonlinear properties of heat conductivity and heat capacity of concrete as well as the evaporation of moistures in a section during the fire. Compared to the previously suggested models, the developed model in this study has included all these parameters in its numerical expressions based on explicit finite difference method. The developed model could predict the temperature changes with a reasonable accuracy for the columns exposed to fire.

  • Reasonable prediction of residual capacity of fire-damaged reinforced columns is important for both the safety measurement and the rehabilitation of the reinforced concrete structures suffered from exposure to extensive fire. In order to predict the residual behavior of fire-damaged reinforced concrete columns, its predictive model must be able to take into account the amount of heat transferred into the column, the level of deterioration of constituent materials and various column geometries. The numerical model presented in this research includes all these factors. The model has been shown to reasonably predict the residual behavior of fire-damaged columns. Parametric studies were performed using this model for the effects of cover thickness, exposure time to fire and column geometries on the residual behavior of reinforced concrete columns. It was found that serious damage on the residual capacity of column resulted from a longer exposure time to fire but only marginal differences from other factors.

  • The most common deterioration cause of concrete structures over the world is chloride ions attacks. Thus, service life modeling of concrete is a crucial issue in civil engineering society. Many studies on the durability of concrete have been accomplished, however, it is not easy to review literatures about environmental analysis. Since the durability of concrete depends on the properties of the surface concrete. micro-climatic condition which influences on surface concrete realistically should be considered. This study is devoted to analysis the micro-climatic condition of concrete structures, based on the in-situ monitoring of weather in marine environment. The effect of degree of saturation on chloride diffusivity of concrete is also examined. It is expected that the result of this work should be available for the prediction of chloride profile of marine concrete.

  • A semi-active MR damper landing gear is a damper that generates a fluid damping force and a magnetic field control damping force when the MR fluid passes through annular flow paths. In the case of MR fluid passing through annular flow paths, an incompletely developed flow inevitably occurs, causing an error in calculating damper inner forces including the fluid damping force. This error results in an inaccurate design of damper structural parameters and control gain selection, resulting in deterioration of dynamic characteristics and shock absorption performance of the landing gear. In this paper, we derived a mathematical model of an MR damper landing gear considering additional damping force generated in the entrance region of annular flow paths of the MR damper. If the mathematical modeling derived from this paper is applied to the design and optimization process of an MR damper landing gear, excellent performance of the MR damper landing gear is expected.

  • Korea's port infrastructure is rapidly aging, with old port facilities with more than 30 years of public life expected to surge from about 23% in 2019 to 47% in 2029. Traditional, aging ports lose competitiveness in logistics processing, reducing development around the port and increasing human casualties due to the human resource-based maintenance of the facilities. Therefore, it is necessary to solve this problem by establishing systematic management technology based on a digital twin. This research aimed to present the specific implementation steps of a digital twin reflecting smart port technology through cases of port infrastructure disasters, aging status, and smart ports. The study analyzed the port infrastructure linkage system and created and mapped scenarios essential for digital twin implementation. Three-dimensional (3D) modeling and simulation data for disaster and aging management among existing port infrastructure systems were collected. A digital twin port was implemented with 3D modeling. It implements a port digital twin simulation that links data such as sensing data and image data acquired from the port infrastructure in real time. Implementing a digital twin port for port infrastructure disasters and aging management can secure predictive port infrastructure management and disaster safety

  • Background: Preservatives are used to prevent product deterioration in modeling clay. Parabens, a representative preservative, have been found to be endocrine disruptors and cause skin irritation and allergic reactions. Isothiazolinone preservatives can be irritating to the skin, respiratory tract, and eyes. Thorough investigation and regulation of clay are necessary because clay is marketed to children, who are more sensitive to the toxic effect of chemicals. Objectives: In this study, the presence of 16 preservatives was analyzed in modeling clay and the results were compared with current standards. Methods: A total of 200 samples were collected from 28 children's clay products sold in South Korea (13 from Korea and 15 imported from overseas). Twelve preservatives, such as parabens, were analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Isothiazolinone preservatives (chloromethylisothiazolinone; CMIT, methylisothiazolinone; MIT, octylisothiazolinone; OIT, and benzisothiazolinone; BIT) were analyzed using ultra performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometery (UPLC-MS/MS). Results: Dehydroacetic acid (DHA) was detected the most in the clays at 51.50% (103 cases) detection; 38 cases (median 190.42 ㎍/g) in Korean products and 65 cases (median 169.62 ㎍/g) in Chinese products. CMIT, which is prohibited in Korea, was detected in 14 (median 16.28 ㎍/g) Chinese products. OIT, which has a chemical structure similar to CMIT was found in 28 (median 68.38 ㎍/g) samples in Korean products. Conclusions: The use of CMIT and MIT in children's products is prohibited in Korea and the European Union (EU). The detection of CMIT in Chinese clay products suggests that management is necessary for imported products. It is necessary to review the safety and regulatory status for OIT because OIT was used as a substitute for CMIT and MIT in Korean products.
