Synchronous Generator Protective Algorithm using Wavelet Transform of Fault Currents (고장전류의 웨이브릿 변환을 이용한 동기 발전기 보호 알고리즘)

  • A generator plays an important role in transferring an electric power to power system networks. The generator protection systems in Korea have been imported and operated through a tum-key from overseas entirely. Therefore, a study of the generator protection field has in urgent need for a stable operation of the imported goods, and for preparation of next generation protection system. The paper describes the fault detection algorithm using WT(Wave!et Transform) of currents for a generator protection. The fault current signals after executing a terminal fault modeling collect using a MA TLAB package, and calculate the wavelet coefficients through the process of a multi -level decomposition (MLD). The proposed algorithm for a fault detection using the Daubechies WT (wavelet transform) was executed with a C language for the command line function and for the real time realization after analyzing MATLAB's graphical interface. The advanced technique had complemented the defects of a DFT by applying a Daubechies WT. and had improved faster a speed and more accurate of fault discriminant than a conventional DFR.

Cycle Slip Detection and Ambiguity Resolution for High Accuracy of an Intergrated GPS/Pseudolite/INS System

  • This paper addresses solutions th the challenges of carrier phase integer ambiguity resolution and cycle slip detection/identification, for maintaining high accuracy of an integrated GPS/Pseudolite/INS system. Such a hybrid positioning and navigation system is an augmentation of standard GPS/INS systems in localized areas. To achieve the goal of high accuracy, the carrier phase measurements with correctly estimated integer ambiguities must be utilized to update the system integration filter's states. The contribution presents an effective approach to increase the reliability and speed of integer ambiguity resolution through using pseudolite and INS measurements, with special emphasis on reducing the ambiguity search space. In addition, an algorithm which can effectively detect and correct the cycle slips is described as well. The algorithm utilizes additional position information provided by the INS, and applies a statistical technique known as th cumulative-sun (CUSUM) test that is very sensitive to abrupt changes of mean values. Results of simulation studies and field tests indicate that the algorithms are performed pretty well, so that the accuracy and performance of the integrated system can be maintained, even if cycle slips exist in the raw GPS measurements.

Video Motion Analysis for Sudden Death Detection During Sleeping (수면 중 돌연사 감지를 위한 비디오 모션 분석 방법)

  • Sudden death during sleep often occurs in different age groups. To prevent an unexpected sudden death, sleep monitoring is required. This paper presents a video analysis method to detect sudden death without using any attachable sensors. In the proposed method, a motion magnification technique detects even very subtle motion during sleep. If the magnification cannot detect motion, the proposed method readily decides on abnormal status (possibly sudden death). Experimental results on two kinds of sleep video show that motion magnification-based video analysis could be useful for discriminating sleep (with very subtle motion) from sudden death.

Automatic Detection of Slow-Wave Sleep Based on Electrocardiogram (심전도를 이용한 서파 수면 자동 검출 알고리즘 개발)

  • The objective of this research is to develop an automatic algorithm based on electrocardiogram (ECG) to estimate slow-wave sleep (SWS). An algorithm is based on 7 indices extracted from heart rate on ECG which simultaneously recorded with standard full night polysomnography from 31 subjects. Those 7 indices were then applied to independent component analysis to extract a feature that discriminates SWS and other sleep stages. Overall Cohen's kappa, accuracy, sensitivity and specificity of the algorithm to detect 30s epochs of SWS were 0.52, 0.87, 0.70 and 0.90, respectively. The automatic SWS detection algorithm could be useful combining with existing REM and wake estimation technique on unattended home-based sleep monitoring.

A new approach to deal with sensor errors in structural controls with MR damper

  • As commonly known, sensor errors and faulty signals may potentially lead structures in vibration to catastrophic failures. This paper presents a new approach to deal with sensor errors/faults in vibration control of structures by using the Fault detection and isolation (FDI) technique. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach, a space truss structure with semi-active devices such as Magneto-Rheological (MR) damper is used as an example. To address the problem, a Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) based fixed-order $H_{\infty}$ FDI filter is introduced and designed. Modeling errors are treated as uncertainties in the FDI filter design to verify the robustness of the proposed FDI filter. Furthermore, an innovative Fuzzy Fault Tolerant Controller (FFTC) has been developed for this space truss structure model to preserve the pre-specified performance in the presence of sensor errors or faults. Simulation results have demonstrated that the proposed FDI filter is capable of detecting and isolating sensor errors/faults and actuator faults e.g., accelerometers and MR dampers, and the proposed FFTC can maintain the structural vibration suppression in faulty conditions.

Application of couple sparse coding ensemble on structural damage detection

  • A method is proposed to detect structural damages in the presence of damping using noisy data. This method uses Frequency Response Function (FRF) and Mode-Shapes as the input parameters for a system of Couple Sparse Coding (CSC) to study the healthy state of the structure. To obtain appropriate patterns of FRF for CSC training, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) technique is adopted to reduce the full-size FRF to overcome over-fitting and convergence problems in machine-learning training. To verify the proposed method, a numerical two-story frame structure is employed. A system of individual CSCs is trained with FRFs and mode-shapes, and then termed ensemble to detect the health condition of the structure. The results demonstrate that the proposed method is accurate in damage identification even in presence of up to 20% noisy data and 5% unconsidered damping ratio. Furthermore, it can be concluded that CSC ensemble is highly efficient to detect the location and the severity of damages in comparison to the individual CSC trained only with FRF data.

  • In this paper, a transceiver of VLC (Visible Light Communication) using LED white lighting has been implemented. We analyzed differences between conventional wireless communication and VLC with high-speed data transmission in a variety of environments, and confirmed symbols which passed through a channel using QAM. In order to get a high data rate, we found some variables that should be considered essentially though experiments. In addition, we set a bandwidth and found an optimal gain according to the distance between transmitter and receiver. We analyzed proposed system model through Labview and finally showed a system performance and to efficient data transmission and detection for VLC, we apply the orthogonal sequences to VLC system.

Measurement of soot concentration in flames using laser-induced incandescence method (레이저 가열 측정법을 이용한 화염 내 매연 농도 측정)

  • Laser induced incandescence, LII, recently developed technique for measuring soot concentration in flames, can overcome most of limitations of conventional laser extinction measurement. In this study, experiments were performed to investigate the effect of laser intensity, detection wavelength, and also laser beam quality on both LII signal at a particular position and peak-to-centerline LII signal ratio. The results of LII signal with increasing laser intensity shows its near-independence of laser intensity once threshold level of laser intensity has been reached. However, this near-independence depends on laser beam quality and the incident optical setup. The peak-to-centerline LII signal ratio slowly but continuously increases with laser power. This fact is due to the dependence of LII signal on particle mean diameter. LII signal is attenuated during it passes through the flame containing soot particles. The attenuation rate is inversely proportional to detection wavelength. In this study, LII signal at 680 nm band is 10% greater than the signal at 400 nm band.

  • This paper proposes a method called linear prediction (a high performant technique in digital speech processing) for analyzing digital ECG signals. There are several significant properties indicating that ECG signals have an important feature in the residual error signal obtained after processing by Durbin's linear prediction algorithm. The ECG signal classification puts an emphasis on the residual error signal. For each ECG's QRS complex. the feature for recognition is obtained from a nonlinear transformation which transforms every residual error signal to set of three states pulse-cord train relative to the original ECG signal. The pulse-cord train has the advantage of easy implementation in digital hardware circuits to achive automated ECG diagnosis. The algorithm performs very well feature extraction in arrythmia detection. Using this method, our studies indicate that the PVC (premature ventricular contration) detection has a at least 90 percent sensityvity for arrythmia data.

  • Entering the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution and the Internet of Things, various services are growing rapidly, and various researches are actively underway. Among them, research on abnormal behaviors on various devices that are being used in the IoT is being conducted. In a hyper-connected society, the damage caused by one wrong device can have a serious impact on the various connected systems. In this paper, We propose a technique to cope with the problem that the threats caused by various abnormal behaviors such as anti-debugging scheme, anomalous process detection method and back door detection method on how to increase the safety of the device and how to use the device and service safely in such IoT environment.
