Processing Techniques for Non-photorealistic Contents Rendering in Mobile Devices (모바일 기기에서의 비실사적 콘텐츠 렌더링을 위한 프로세싱 기법)

  • Recently, development of mobile service and increased demand for mobile device make mobile environment noticeable in computer graphics. Especially demand for 3D graphic services in mobile devices is steadily increased. However up to the present non-photorealistic rendering is mainly studied in desktop platform. In the result, existing research were designed for desktop computers and are not well-suited for mobile devices. Thus, there is a growing needs for processing techniques that provide the ability to render 3D non-photorealistic graphics through mobile devices. In this paper, we discuss processing techniques for non-photorealistic rendering that are especially cartoon shading and rendering in mobile devices. Through the result of this research, it is expected that silhouette edge rendering for mobile display environment and preprocessing file technique for shading. The efficiency of 3D mobile graphic service like 3D model in cartoon style is increased by using proposed preprocessing file and rendering pipeline. Our work can provide mobile cartoon rendering results and various mobile contents to users.

A Study on the VDT Workstations Usage for Office Workers

  • Objective and Background: Due to increase in Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) relating to computer use, a number of ergonomics recommendations have been proposed in order to tackle this problem. However, some of these recommendations have been conflicting. Method: This study was to survey the VDT (Visual Display Terminal) use of office workers. The subjects were 452 workers at 13 places of business and the data were collected by self-administered questionnaire. Results: As a result, prevalence of self-reported MSDs of all VDT workers was 90.2% and shoulder took up 57.0% and neck 38.3% by symptom part of body. The population of computer use of more than 6h/day was 84.5%, and 33.8% also reported using the VDT 2~3h/day without the rest time. Desktop computer users were 95.6%, and a 17-inch monitor accounted for 42.0% among the desktop users. As a result of satisfaction survey on overall computer work, 21.1% of the total respondents said satisfied, desk complaint was about 24.6%, and chair complaint was 33.4%. Despite the importance of computer environment, satisfaction was from fair to uncomfortable. Conclusion and Application: In conclusion, office workers are prone to the MSDs due to their work environment. Additionally, this study found that task was a significant effect for the majority of dependent variables, and therefore, the improvement of computer workstations work environment is urgent, and the improvement of desk height adjustment, chair seat size (length, width), backrest condition, location of keyboard (mouse) and arm rest is required.

  • Recently, due to the development of next-generation computing devices and high-performance network, VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) is receiving a great deal of attention from IT market as an essential part of cloud computing. VDI enables to host multiple, individual virtual machines that are provisioned from servers located at the data center by using hypervisor. One of the critical issues related to VDI is to reduce the performance difference between virtual machines and physical ones. In this paper, we present a real-time VM monitoring system, called SETMOV, that is able to collect the real-time resource usage information. We also present the performance results using iozone to verify SETMOV.

  • Most cargo truck drivers of small and medium-sized firms often process their works using a paper document containing the transport-related information. However, these paper documents that are used to plan route or check the list for cargo loading have the potential to be lost or damaged. Also, it is not easy to manage cargo using certain devices not the paper document in case of small and medium-sized firms because the budget is limited. In this paper, we implement the cargo transportation system for desktop and android-based application in order to solve these problems. A manager for cargo transportation is provided a simple interface to manage the transport-related information through the desktop application. A cargo truck driver is provided functions such as plan route and make a call to manage the transport-related information through the android-based application. This system is implemented to improve the efficiency of cargo transportation.

A Real Time Low-Cost Hand Gesture Control System for Interaction with Mechanical Device (기계 장치와의 상호작용을 위한 실시간 저비용 손동작 제어 시스템)

  • Recently, a system that supports efficient interaction, a human machine interface (HMI), has become a hot topic. In this paper, we propose a new real time low-cost hand gesture control system as one of vehicle interaction methods. In order to reduce computation time, depth information was acquired using a time-of-flight (TOF) camera because it requires a large amount of computation when detecting hand regions using an RGB camera. In addition, fourier descriptor were used to reduce the learning model. Since the Fourier descriptor uses only a small number of points in the whole image, it is possible to miniaturize the learning model. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed technique, we compared the speeds of desktop and raspberry pi2. Experimental results show that performance difference between small embedded and desktop is not significant. In the gesture recognition experiment, the recognition rate of 95.16% is confirmed.

  • The problem of common difficulties for the implemented business that imposing the Value Engineering(VE) is crucial. Because of the difference in effect of VE by how an abstract concept as function digitize. Furthermore, to improve achievement of VE,, the advancement of VE is demanded. The most of business conducting the VE is pushing this method with the purpose of cost reduction. As explaining this product, the cost occupies the desktop of F1 and the component of product 54% with the result of analyzing the coefficient of functional requirement. Then the functional cost can be confirmed. Through the result of this study, the fact that the desktop, the bluetooth, the probe occupy the most of products with satisfying the function is able to confirm. An effort for cost reduction in purchasing through adjusting a stable quality demanded for the cost reduction is needed. Also, another effort of proper price reduction by diversification of buyer business is needed also.

  • Smartphones and smartpads have a lot of advantages such as high convenience and portability. Also, they can effectively manage enormous amounts of information based on their high performance and plentiful applications. As such devices have been frequently used, many users manage various types of information using the devices. Recently, during conferences or seminars, smart device users often try to utilize stored resources on their devices and present them visually. Unfortunately, since smart devices have small displays, there is an essential difficulty in visual sharing of information. In this paper, we propose a method which integrates screens of several android smart devices and supports sharing of the integrated screen through a large display, presenting a screen sharing system for android smart devices. The developed system integrates display screens of several smart devices into a screen and shows the integrated screen through a large display connected to a desktop computer. In addition, to support the effective sharing of screens, the system provides functions for adjusting the number and the size of screens on a large display. The functions are controlled on a smart device and/or a desktop computer.

Exploring the Moderating Effect of Interdependence on Performance and Satisfaction in Virtual Work Environment (품질 관점에서 가상 데스크탑 인프라(VDI)의 만족과 성과, 그리고 업무 상호의존성의 조절효과)

  • With the explosive proliferation of smart devices that may be connected to the fast Internet, virtual desktop interfaces(VDI) are being implemented in enterprises allowing employees to work anywhere anytime in the same technological environment. As this kind of systems are intended to raise the work performance, a research model is constructed from the review of research literature on service quality and work design. The model consists of VDI system service quality (ubiquity, availability, compatibility, security and ease of use), system satisfaction, task performance and job satisfaction. As VDI is designed as a support system for cooperative work, the task interdependence adopted from the work design theory is postulated here as moderating the effect of user satisfaction on task performance and job satisfaction. 147 data points were collected by a survey of VDI users in a global firm and subjected to PLS analysis. Interestingly, ubiquity and compatibility seem to be not statistically significant for user satisfaction while availability, security and ease of use of VDI system are statistically significant. Task interdependence is found to be a relatively strong mediator between system user satisfaction and task performance, however, interestingly, the coefficient come out as negative. This may indicate that the influence of VDI user satisfaction on task performance would not be high in highly interdependent tasks. Considering that VDI is intended for supporting 'interdependence' in cooperative work, this finding is a bit surprising. In-depth discussions are made in the discussion followed by future research directions.

A Compressed Hot-Cold Clustering to Improve Index Operation Performance of Flash Memory-SSD Systems (플래시메모리-SSD의 인덱스 연산 성능 향상을 위한 압축된 핫-콜드 클러스터링 기법)

  • SSDs are one of the best media to support portable and desktop computers' storage devices. Their features include non-volatility, low power consumption, and fast access time for read operations, which are sufficient to present flash memories as major database storage components for desktop and server computers. However, we need to improve traditional index management schemes based on B-Tree due to the relatively slow characteristics of flash memory operations, as compared to RAM memory. In order to achieve this goal, we propose a new index management scheme based on a compressed hot-cold clustering called CHC-Tree. CHC-Tree-based index management improves index operation performance by dividing index nodes into hot or cold segments and compressing pointers and keys in the index nodes and clustering the hot or cold segments. The offset compression techniques using unused free area in cold index node lead to reduce the number of slow erase operations in index node insert/delete processes. Simulation results show that our scheme significantly reduces the write and erase operation overheads, improving the index search performance of B-Tree by up to 26 percent, and the index update performance by up to 23 percent.

A Design and Implementation of Multimedia Pest Prediction Management System using Wireless Sensor Network (무선 센서 네트워크를 이용한 멀티미디어 병해충 예측 관리 시스템 설계 및 구현)

  • The majority of farm managers growing the garden products in greenhouse concern massively about the diagnosis and prevention of the breeding and extermination for pests. especially, the managing problem for pests turns up as main issue. In the paper, we first build a wireless sensor network with soil and environment sensors such as illumination, temperature and humidity. And then we design and implement multimedia pest predication and management system which is able to predict and manage various pest of garden products in greenhouse. The proposed system can support the database with information about the pests by building up wireless sensor network in greenhouse compared with existing high-priced PLC device as well as collect various environment information from soil, the interior of greenhouse, and the exterior of greenhouse. To verify the good capability of our system, we implemented several GUI interface corresponding desktop. web, and PDA mobile platform based on real greenhouse model. Finally, we can confirm that our system work well prediction and management of pest of garden products in greenhouse based on several platforms.
