A CLUSTER ANALYSIS OF THE AUDIT RESULT OF QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IN ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN AND ENGINEERING FIRMS

  • ISO 9001 is being used by architectural design and engineering firms in order to strengthen the capability of business activities through the implementation of advanced ISO 9000. However, there have been significant problems in stable settlement of ISO 9000 in design and engineering company, which seem to be caused by lack of proper and comprehension. For the purpose this research was conducted by a cluster analysis of 646 audit reports out of representative 15 companies that have been audited from 1997 to 2003. The analysis showed that the most problems were generated in the areas of "Design and Development", "Production and Service Provision", and "General requirements" of ISO 9000. This research also shows that the corrective actions for disposition of nonconformities should be implemented to achive ISO 9000 standards.

  • Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) system is a typical integrated system that simultaneously performs both building function and solar power generation function. To maximize its potential advantage, however, the solar photovoltaic power generation function must be integrated from the early conceptual design stage, and maximum power generation must be designed. To cope with such requirements, preliminary research on BIPV design process based on architectural design model and computer simulation results for improving solar power generation performance have been published. However, the requirements of the BIPV system have not been clearly identified and systematically reflected in the subsequent design. Moreover, no model has verified the power generation design. To solve these problems, we systematically model the requirements of BIPV system and study power generation design based on the system requirements model. Through the study, we consistently use the standard system modeling language, SysML. Specifically, stakeholder requirements were first identified from stakeholders and related BIPV standards. Then, based on the domain model, the design requirements of the BIPV system were derived at the system level, and the functional and physical architectures of the target system were created based on the system requirements. Finally, the power generation performance of the BIPV system was evaluated through a simulated SysML model (Parametric diagram). If the SysML system model developed herein can be reinforced by reflecting the conditions resulting from building design, it will open an opportunity to study and optimize the power generation in the BIPV system in an integrated fashion.

  • In this paper, we propose a design method for the construction of LTE-based small unmanned aerial vehicle control system to quickly and reliably collect multiple small unmanned aerial vehicle position information simultaneously flying all over the country. In particular, the main requirements are the network (N/W), hardware (H/ W), software(SW), Database(DB), development architecture, and business needs. To satisfy these requirements, N/W, H/W, SW, DB design, and architectural design plan were suggested regarding the design requirements of a small UAV system. To effectively control the small unmanned multi-party system in the system design, the architecture is divided into the front-end service area and the back-end service area according to the function and role of the unit system. In the front-end service area that grasps and controls the position and state of small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), we have studied the design part that can be expanded to N through TCP/IP network by applying Client PC method.

  • This study is structural analysis and continuous, discrete optimum design of braced steel frame structures under earthquake loads considering soil condition. The program which is able to perform simultaneously structural analysis and continuous, discrete optimum design, it is applied steel frame structures using unbraced, Z-braced, and X-braced types and analyze the program about static loads and seismic loads. The purpose of this study is to present proper braced type for seismic effects by comparing and analyzing results of analytic method about various cases using specially Newmark-Hall design spectrum, ATC design spectrum and ATC equivalent static analysis and finding minimum weight and design variables which satisfy the ultimate strength requirements of AISC-ASD specifications, the serviceability requirements and allowable story drift requirements of ATC-3-06 and various constraints.

  • In software development, the elicitation and analysis of requirements is a crucial phase, and it involves considerable time and effort due to the involvement of various stakeholders. ChatGPT, having been trained on a diverse array of documents, is a large language model that possesses not only the ability to generate code and perform debugging but also the capability to be utilized in the domain of software analysis and design. This paper proposes a method of requirements engineering that leverages ChatGPT's capabilities for eliciting software requirements, analyzing them to align with system goals, and documenting them in the form of use cases. In software requirements engineering, it suggests that stakeholders, analysts, and ChatGPT should engage in a collaborative model. The process should involve using the outputs of ChatGPT as initial requirements, which are then reviewed and augmented by analysts and stakeholders. As ChatGPT's capability improves, it is anticipated that the accuracy of requirements elicitation and analysis will increase, leading to time and cost savings in the field of software requirements engineering.

  • Helicopters are essential for supporting offshore oil and gas activities around the world. To ensure accessibility for helicopters, helideck structures must satisfy the safety requirements associated with various environmental and accidental loads. Recently, offshore helideck structures have used aluminium because of its light weight, low maintenance requirements, cost effectiveness and easy installation. However, section designs of aluminum pancakes tend to modify and/or change from the steel pancakes. Therefore, it is necessary to optimize section design and evaluate the safety requirements for aluminium helideck. In this study, a design procedure was developed based on section optimization techniques with experimental studies, industrial regulations and nonlinear finite element analyses. To validate and verify the procedure, a new aluminium section was developed and compared strength capacity with the existing helideck section profiles.

  • With the rise in national GNP, there has been a surge in people requiring adequate housing. The most who are in need of adequate housing are fresh graduates who have entered the job market, and newly-wed couples. Given the current economic condition it is difficult for young people and newly-wed couples to find reasonably affordable accommodations. In response to this, the government is trying to formulate a new policy, with the aim of helping young married couples find decent accommodation in response to the housing shortage. Research was performed last July with the aim of looking at the differences between the newlyweds' expectation of the idealistic housing and conditions. Questionnaires were distributed to undergraduate and postgraduate research students to find out their requirements. The questionnaire investigated the social background and the condition of the inhabited area; housing type internal facilities; the space required for housing; interior finishing, and storage facilities. The survey results were analyzed using SPSS and found that the design of small residential areas, the space requirements of more diversified individualized areas were the most important concerns for undergraduate and postgraduate research students. From the study we hope this will form a foundation for the design of the future housing social stratum. It is hoped that the current results and conclusions of this survey will be of help for the korean community to provide a direction and a positive input in the future design of newly married housing.

  • The accelerated convergence of automobiles and ICT has led to an increase in in-vehicle electronic devices designed to enhance the safety and convenience of drivers. Consequently, the information presentation on in-vehicle display systems for drivers and passengers need to be taken into account in order to guarantee driving stability while satisfying the needs of UX-based design users. This study compared and evaluated requirements for information items shown on in-vehicle displays regarding driving safety and convenience by groups according to driving career. A total of 38 information items related to safety and convenience that can be displayed while driving and pulling over were collected. Their level of necessity was tested and evaluated by 234 drivers. Using the results, we conducted a comparative analysis on the requirements for information presentation on in-vehicle display systems by groups according to driving career.

  • Precast prestressed double-tee slab may be designed by the PCI Design Handbook. It is based on the bridge construction and is required for reorganization for the use of buildings in the domestic construction environments. Much enhanced sections are developed from the reforming process on the determined design factors in the previous experimental works on double tees. Pre-determined shape, reinforcement detail, and 5000 psi concrete strength can not be expected as the best solution for the domestic construction requirements because large amount of use on that systems are anticipated. Flexural tests are performed on four full-scale 12.5m proto-type models, "least depth double tee", which are resulted from the optimization process. Domestic superimposed live load regulation, domestic material properties which is available to product, building design requirements and economy in construction are considered as the main factors to establish. the first two sections are double tee section for 1.2 ton/$\m^2$ market live load with straight and one-point depressed strands and the second two are for 0.6 ton/$\m^2$ parking live load with those strand types. All of the specimens tested fully comply with the flexural strength requirements as specified by ACI 318-95. However, the research has shown that following improved considerations are needed for better result in practice. The locations and method of connection for the lowest bottom mild bar, connection method between precast and cast-in-place concrete, and dap-end reinforcement are need to be improved.

  • Safe operation and maintenance of engineered dry storage systems for spent fuel from nuclear power plants basically depends on adequately adopted design requirements. The most important design target of the system are those which provide the necessary assurances that spent fuel can be received, handled, stored and retrieved without undue risk to health and safety of workers and the public. To achieve these objectives, the design of the system incorporates features to remove spent fuel residual heat, to provide for radiation protection, and to maintain containment over the lifespan of the system as specified in the design specifications. The features also provide for all possible anticipated operational occurrences and design basis events in accordance with the design basis as guided by the designated regulations. The general performance requirements of a projected storage system are introduced in this paper. The storage system is designed to store fuel assemblies in associated with designated regulatory requirements. Small increases/decreases in maximum burnup can be adjusted with cooling time. These variations are compensated for by a corresponding small site-specific increase/decrease in the design basis-cooling period, as long as the maximum heat load and radioactivity of loaded fuel assemblies are met. Generic design basis events considered for the storage system are summarized. Shielding and radiological requirements along with mechanical and structural are derived in this study.
