  • To make the composite panels of wood particles and recycled plastics, the recycled polypropylene was used. In the composite panels the sizes of wood particles were 1/32", 1/4" and 1/2" mesh, and the composition ratios of the recycled plastics were 10%, 30%, 50% and 70%. The physical and mechanical properties of the composite panels were investigated. As the composition ratio of wood particle increases, the density increases, while it decreases at the same composition ratio because the size of wood particle increases. As the composition ratio of recycled polypropylene increases from 10% to 30%, both thickness swelling and water adsorption significantly decrease. As the composition ratio of recycled polypropylene increases, the modulus of rupture in bending strength increases, but the modulus of elasticity in bending strength decreases. SEM shows that the dissolved recycled polypropylene penetrates into tracheid and pit, and bonds mechanically to other wood particle and matrix to increase the bonding strength and improve the physical and mechanical properties of composite panel.

  • Due to increased integration density and reduced threshold voltages, leakage current reduction becomes important in the semiconductor IC design for low power consumption. In a combinational logic circuit, the leakage current in the standby state depends on the values of the input. In this research, we developed a new input vector control method to minimize the leakage power. A new efficient algorithm is developed to find the minimal leakage vector. It can reduce the leakage current by 15.7% from the average leakage current and by 6.7% from the results of simulated evolution method during standby or idle states for a set of benchmark circuits. The minimal leakage input vector, with idle input signal, can also reduce the leakage current by 6.8% from the average leakage current and by 3.2% from the results of simulated evolution method for sequential circuits.

  • In this paper we discuss about the practical implementation of a combined CO and CO2 dual sensor module that is adapted by NDIR (Non-Dispersive Infrared) method that measures the absorbance of gas like CO and CO2 by using gas particles' characteristics that absorb specific wave lengths of infrared ray. NDIR has a long life time, excellent measurement and precision compared to the existing contact types or chemical types of CO2 sensors. Since optical cavity technology that had been developed until now can measure CO2 only we research and develop an optimal optical cavity design and density-temperature calibration technologies that can measure CO and CO2 at the same time and is important to decide the performance of the sensor module according to well-designed wave guides of the different length.

  • The density of Memory has been increased by great challenge for memory technology, so elements of memory become smaller than before and the sensitivity to faults increases. As a result of these changes, memory testing becomes more complex. The number of storage elements is increased per chip, and the cost of test becomes more remarkable as the cost per transistor drops. Proposed design doesn't need to control from outside environment, because it integrates into memory. The proposed scheme supports the various memory testing algorithms. Consequently, the proposed one is more efficient in terms of test cost and test data to be applied. Moreover, we proposed a reallocation algorithm for faulty memory parts. It has an efficient reallocation scheme with row and column redundant memory. Previous reallocation information is obtained from faulty memory every each tests. However proposed scheme avoids to this problem. because onetime test result from reallocation information can save to flash memory. In this paper, a reallocation scheme has been increased efficiency because of using flash memory.

  • IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs support 20, 40, 80 and 160MHz bandwidth transmission. In general, the data rate increases as the transmission bandwidth increases. However, the transmission power spectral density decreases, which may lead to increasing packet errors and retransmissions. In this paper, we derive a mathematical model of energy consumption with consideration of various factors such as transmission bandwidth, packet error rate and data size. Based on the model, we design a scheme to adapt a transmission bandwidth for each frame transmission. The scheme estimates packet error rates for different bandwidth cases, updates the table of energy consumption and selects the best bandwidth for the next transmission. The simulation study with VoIP traffic shows the energy consumption of the scheme under various environments.

  • To find out rational design and synthetic strategies toward efficient hydrogen storage materials, molecular modeling and quantum mechanical studies have been carried out on the MOFs(Metal-Organic Frameworks) having various organic linkers and nanocube frameworks. The calculation results about the free volume ratio, surface area, and electron density variation of the frameworks indicated that the capacity of the hydrogen storage of MOFs was largely dependent on the specific surface area and electron localization around benzene ring rather than the free volume of MOFs. The prediction of the modeling study could be supported by the hydrogen adsorption experiments using IRMOF-1 and -3, which showed more enhanced hydrogen storage capacities of IRMOF-3 compared with the IRMOF-1's at both experimental conditions, 77K, ∠ $H_2$ 1 atm and ambient temperature, ∠ $H_2$ 35 atm.

  • The effect of content of $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ sintering additives on the densification behavior, mechanical and electrical properties of the pressureless-sintered $SiC-ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites was investigated. The $SiC-ZrB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites were pressureless-sintered for 2 hours at 1,700[$^{\circ}C$] temperatures with an addition of $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$(6:4 mixture of $Al_2O_3$ and $Y_2O_3$) as a sintering aid in the range of 8${\sim}$20[wt%]. Phase analysis of $SiC-ZrB_2$ composites by XRD revealed mostly of ${\alpha}$-SiC(6H), $ZrB_2$ and In Situ YAG($Al_5Y_3O_{12}$). The relative density, flexural strength, Young's modulus and vicker's hardness showed the highest value of 89.01[%], 81.58[Mpa], 31.437[GPa] and 1.34[GPa] for $SiC-ZrB_2$ composites added with 16[wt%] $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives at room temperature respectively. Abnormal grain growth takes place during phase transformation from ${\beta}$-SiC into ${\alpha}$-SiC was correlated with In Situ YAG phase by reaction between $Al_2O_3$ and $Y_2O_3$ additive during sintering. Compositional design and optimization of processing parameters are key factors for controlling and improving the properties of SiC-based electroconductive ceramic composites. In this paper, it is convinced that ${\beta}$-SiC based electroconductive ceramic composites for heaters or ignitors can be manufactured by pressureless sintering.

  • The magnetic polishing is the useful method to finish using magnetic power of magnet. That method is one of precision polishing techniques and has an aim of the clean technology using for the pure of gas and inside of the clean pipe. The magnetic abrasive polishing method is not so common for machine that it is not spreaded widely. There are rarely researcher in this field because of non-effectiveness of magnetic abrasive. Therefore, in this paper deals with development of the magnetic abrasive using Sr-Ferrite. In this development, abrasive grain GC used to resin bond fabricated low temperature. And Sr-Ferrite of magnetic abrasive powder fabricated that Sr-Ferrite was crused into 200 mesh. The XRD analysis result show that only GC abrasive and Sr-Ferrite crystal peaks detected which explains resin bond was not any more chemical reaction. From SEM analysis it is found that GC abrasive and Sr-Ferrite were strong bonding with each other by bond. The magnetic polishing is performed by polishing the surface of pipe by attracting magnetic abrasives with magnetic fields. This can be widely applied for finishing machinery fabrications such as various pipes and for other safety processes. In this paper, we could have investigated in to the changes of the movement of magnetic abrasive grain. In reference to this result, we could have made the experiment which is set under the condition of the magnetic flux density, polishing velocity according to the form of magnetic brush.

  • In recent years the interest in online monitoring of lightweight structures with ultrasonic guided waves is steadily growing. Especially the aircraft industry is a driving force in the development of structural health monitoring (SHM) systems. In order to optimally design SHM systems powerful and efficient numerical simulation tools to predict the behaviour of ultrasonic elastic waves in thin-walled structures are required. It has been shown that in real industrial applications, such as airplane wings or fuselages, conventional linear and quadratic pure displacement finite elements commonly used to model ultrasonic elastic waves quickly reach their limits. The required mesh density, to obtain good quality solutions, results in enormous computational costs when solving the wave propagation problem in the time domain. To resolve this problem different possibilities are available. Analytical methods and higher order finite element method approaches (HO-FEM), like p-FEM, spectral elements, spectral analysis and isogeometric analysis, are among them. Although analytical approaches offer fast and accurate results, they are limited to rather simple geometries. On the other hand, the application of higher order finite element schemes is a computationally demanding task. The drawbacks of both methods can be circumvented if regions of complex geometry are modelled using a HO-FEM approach while the response of the remaining structure is computed utilizing an analytical approach. The objective of the paper is to present an efficient method to couple different HO-FEM schemes with an analytical description of an undisturbed region. Using this hybrid formulation the numerical effort can be drastically reduced. The functionality of the proposed scheme is demonstrated by studying the propagation of ultrasonic guided waves in plates, excited by a piezoelectric patch actuator. The actuator is modelled utilizing higher order coupled field finite elements, whereas the homogenous, isotropic plate is described analytically. The results of this "semi-analytical" approach highlight the opportunities to reduce the numerical effort if closed-form solutions are partially available.

  • This paper presents the application of multiple linear regression (MLR) and artificial neural network (ANN) techniques for developing the models to predict the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and Brazilian tensile strength (BTS) of the fiber reinforced cement stabilized fly ash mixes. UCS and BTS is a highly nonlinear function of its constituents, thereby, making its modeling and prediction a difficult task. To establish relationship between the independent and dependent variables, a computational technique like ANN is employed which provides an efficient and easy approach to model the complex and nonlinear relationship. The data generated in the laboratory through systematic experimental programme for evaluating UCS and BTS of fiber reinforced cement fly ash mixes with respect to 7, 14 and 28 days' curing is used for development of the MLR and ANN model. The data used in the models is arranged in the format of four input parameters that cover the contents of cement and fibers along with maximum dry density (MDD) and optimum moisture contents (OMC), respectively and one dependent variable as unconfined compressive as well as Brazilian tensile strength. ANN models are trained and tested for various combinations of input and output data sets. Performance of networks is checked with the statistical error criteria of correlation coefficient (R), mean square error (MSE) and mean absolute error (MAE). It is observed that the ANN model predicts both, the unconfined compressive and Brazilian tensile, strength quite well in the form of R, RMSE and MAE. This study shows that as an alternative to classical modeling techniques, ANN approach can be used accurately for predicting the unconfined compressive strength and Brazilian tensile strength of fiber reinforced cement stabilized fly ash mixes.
