A Study on the Level of Algorithmic Thinking of Students in Elementary and Secondary Schools (초중등 학습자의 알고리즘적 사고 수준 측정 연구)

  • The ability of problem-solving, communicating, and collaborating with computing technology is considered as core competencies for future society. In order to improve those competences, the algorithm and programming ability was set as the important goal of the Information curriculum of Korea. Algorithmic thinking is a key component of computing thinking, and it is known to play a very important role in designing and programming algorithms. It is used to set goals of Information curriculum and to measure student achievement. Therefore, in this study, developed a test to measure algorithmic thinking of students in elementary, middle and high schools, and applied the test to measure the levels of algorithmic thinking. As a result of the analysis, the higher the school level, the better the algorithmic thinking. And no difference was found between genders. This study is expected to provide a guide for constructing measures or setting the difficulty level for algorithmic thinking.

A Study on the Concept of Chaos and New Design Thinking (카오스개념과 새로운 디자인사고에 관한 고찰)

  • As we approach the end of the twentieth century, it seems we need a new way to express the thoughts, needs, and values that are undergoing a drastic change and a new strategy to create diverse cultural forms that would reflect and incorporate such changes. In this study, I am introducing the chaos theory as a new way of thinking that would help counterbalancing the deter-ministic world-view and forging a harmonious unity of man and his environment. As a creative principle, the theory seems to offer an unlimited number of structural possibilities for art and design. In fine, this study discuss-es the reductive nature of modernist approach and offer instead the chaos theory that is more probabilistic and capable of greater diversity.

  • The purpose of this study is to define concept and characteristics of "Unphenomenon", the design concept conceived by Shiro Kuramata who is a world renowned Japanese interior designer and to explore how his ideas were materialized in his works. This study 1) examines his experience during his childhood reflected in his essay The scenery of the Unphenomenon' and training in Kuwazawa Design Institute that made Shiro Kuramata a true interior designer, and also considers how his design philosophy had been built up and realized under the unique social situation at the time. 2) defines the concept and characteristics of "Unphenomenon" as substance of his design philosophy by surveying remarks in his books and comments made by people around him in press interviews. 3) concludes his own design method and uniqueness by analyzing his works based on them. As a result, the study has founded that 1) transparency as recognitive realization of existence and non-existence: non-existence of physical property, connotation, ambiguity 2) expression of uncommonness by correcting and reinterpreting common prejudices: flotation, distortion of scale and shape 3) realization of insubstantiality by removing and replacing material and shape: replacement into light, removal of the structure, multiple layers of meaning.

  • Kengo Kuma used to be very known well as a critic before being an architect. He usually mentioned quite unique type of comments for subjects whenever his criticism, also even his works results have been able to be targets of criticism materials by his method. His works are the achievements of challenges based on his continuous dynamic criticism. Hence, to have well understanding of his architectural thinking and works result, his complexes criticism structure must be needed to understand. And also, this study is using 'KJ Method' type to analyze his architectural thinking which is complicated making by a type of non-linear. Kengo Kuma's structures of architectural thinking and critiques perspective of modern architecture have been created by 'KJ Method'. Critiques types of keywords and consequences words collected from among the local dedicated professional architecture books to get this research result. First of all, Kengo Kuma desired even modern architecture problems to be melt as a specific architecture result such as modern type of power structure. To have result, Kengo Kuma had experienced sensible activity through materials which have specific characteristic. Also place of materiality created to get relationship between environments and architecture. Secondly, he wanted to recover troubled traditional Japanese architectural perspective which blocked relationship by dichotomy as a right way. In conclusion, this research reaches Kengo Kuma's type of architecture which strongly emphasizes harmony among related components such as human being, materials, substances based on accepted natural environments and lives' principle. Also, much more specific methods have been derived by related works results analyzing which have similar characteristic as Kengo Kuma's one.

  • AI(Artificial intelligence) is gradually taking up a large part of our lives, and the pace of AI development is accelerating. It is called ACT that develop students' computational thinking in the way artificial intelligence learns. Among ACTs, pattern recognition is an essential factor in efficiently solving problems. Pattern analysis is part of the pattern recognition process. In fact, Netflix's personalized movie recommendation service and what it named Covid-19 after repeated symptoms are all the results of pattern analysis. While the importance of ACT, including pattern recognition, is highlighted, software education for kindergarten and elementary school lower grades is much insufficient compared to foreign countries. Therefore, this study aims to design and develop textbooks for the development of artificial intelligence-based computational thinking through pattern analysis for kindergarten students.

A Study on the Design of Walking aids for Outdoor Use by the Elderly Applying Universal Design Principles

  • Existing research on walking aids has primarily focused on functional improvements, often neglecting negative aspects such as physical injuries and psychological discomfort, which limits the elderly's active participation in outdoor activities. This study aims to analyze issues related to outdoor walking stemming from physical and psychological factors in the elderly and to propose design directions for walking aids that align with their preferences. In-depth interviews were conducted with 13 elderly individuals aged 65 and above who use rollators, from May 2024 to June 2024. The interviews were analyzed using a questionnaire based on psychological factors identified in previous studies and functional aspects, utilizing Universal Design principles. The five-stage design thinking model from d.school was employed for problem definition. Issues related to walking aids were identified and analyzed during the 'Empathize' and 'Define' stages. The findings highlight priorities such as maintaining proper posture, reducing vibration, improving ease of folding and speed control, and providing additional storage space without causing discomfort. The proposed design directions reflect the needs and aspirations derived from the actual experiences of elderly individuals. The study's findings are expected to contribute to the development of walking aids that enhance usability and confidence, thereby improving the quality of life for elderly individuals.

Effects of integrative simulation practice on nursing knowledge, critical thinking, problem-solving ability, and immersion in problem-based learning among nursing students (문제중심학습 통합 시뮬레이션교육이 간호대학생의 간호지식, 비판적 사고성향, 문제 해결 능력 및 수업 몰입도에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of problem-based learning-integrative simulation practice (PBL-ISP) on nursing knowledge, critical thinking, problem-solving ability, and immersion among nursing students. Methods: The study used a nonequivalent control group post-test design. A PBL-ISP educational program was provided to the experimental group, and hands-on practice using a high-fidelity simulator (HFS) was administered to the control group. There were 42 subjects in the experimental group and 40 in the control group. Data were collected during the fall semester of 2019. Using SPSS for Windows version 23.0, data were analyzed in terms of frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, the chi-square test, t-test, and Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: Significant differences between the experimental and control groups were found in nursing knowledge (t=3.67, p<.001), critical thinking (t=3.40, p=.001), problem-solving ability (t=3.52, p=.001) and immersion (t=4.44, p<.001). Conclusion: PBL-ISP was more effective in improving nursing knowledge, critical thinking, problem-solving ability, and immersion than was hands-on practice using an HFS.

Influence of Frailty, Nutritional Status, Positive Thinking and Family Function on Health Conservation of the Elderly at Home (재가노인의 노쇠, 영양상태, 긍정적 사고 및 가족기능이 건강보존에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between frailty, nutritional status, positive thinking, family function, and health conservation and to identify the factors influencing health conservation of the elderly at home. Methods: The research design was a descriptive survey using a convenience sampling. Data were collected from 142 elders using self-reported questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 20.0 program for descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple linear regression. Results: The average health conservation score was 98.85. There were significant correlations between frailty, nutritional status, positive thinking, family function and health conservation. As a result of the multiple linear regression analysis, positive thinking, perceived health status, spouse and frailty accounted for 69% of the variance in health conservation of the elderly at home. Conclusion: These influencing factors on health conservation can be taken into account in the development of nursing intervention programs for improving health conservation of the elderly at home.

Effect of Ego-Resilience of Nursing Students on Clinical Practice Competency: Focus on the Mediating Effects of Critical Thinking Dispositions (간호대학생의 자아탄력성이 임상수행 능력에 미치는 영향: 비판적 사고성향의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the mediating effect of critical thinking dispositions in the relationship between ego-resilience and clinical practice competency. Method: This study used a descriptive design with a survey method. A total of 193 nursing students were recruited from 4 colleges of nursing in C city, and A and B province in Korea. The data was collected using questionnaires from October 6, 2017 to October 24, 2017. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis, and linear regression analysis. Result: There were showed significant positive relationships of clinical practice competency with ego-resilience. In addition, critical thinking dispositions had a partial mediating role in the relationship between ego-resilience and clinical practice competency. Conclusion: This study identified the mediating effects of critical thinking dispositions and how to improve clinical practice competency. The results of this study can be used as basic data for establishing an educational approach to enhance clinical practice competency, which is considered a key competency for nursing college students.
