  • This paper examines the problem of designing an $H_{\infty}$ fuzzy state-feedback controller for a class of uncertain nonlinear descriptor systems which is described by a Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy model. Based on a linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach, we develop an $H_{\infty}$ state-feedback controller which guarantees the $L_2$-gain of the mapping from the exogenous input noise to the regulated output to be less than some prescribed value for this class of systems. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the design developed in this paper.

  • This paper deals with a fault detection algorithm for linear descriptor systems via unknown input PI observer. An unknown input PI observer is presented and its realization conditions is proposed by using the rank condition of system matrices. From the characteristics of unknown input PI observer, the states of system with unknown inputs are estimated and the magnitude of failures are detected and isolated easily by using integrated output error under the step failures. Finally, a numerical example is given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • As development of digital technology, many kinds of multimedia data are used variously and requirements for effective use by user are increasing. In order to transfer information fast and precisely what user wants, effective retrieval method is required. As existing multimedia data are impossible to apply the MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 technologies which are aimed at compression, store and transmission. So MPEG-7 is introduced as a new technology for effective management and retrieval of multimedia data. In this paper, we extract content-based features using color descriptor among the MPEG-7 standardization visual descriptor, and reduce feature data applying PCA(Principal Components Analysis) technique. We model the cerebral cortex and hippocampal neural network in engineering domain, and team content-based feature vectors fast and apply the hippocampal neural network algorithm to compose of optimized feature. And then we present fast and precise retrieval effect when indexing and retrieving.

  • This paper considers a robust observer-based $H_{\infty}$ controller design method for descriptor systems with parameter uncertainties using just one LMI condition. The sufficient condition for the existence of controller and the controller design method are presented by a perfect LMI condition in terms of all variables using singular value decomposition, Schur complement, and change of variables. Therefore, one of the main advantages is that a robust observer-based $H_{\infty}$ controller is found by solving one LMI condition compared with existing results. Numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller design method.

  • This paper considers robust and non-fragile guaranteed cost controller design method for descriptor systems with parameter uncertainties and time delay, and static state feedback controller with gain variations. The existence condition of controller, the design method of controller, the upper bound to minimize guaranteed cost function, and the measure of non-fragility in controller are proposed using linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique, which can be solved efficiently by convex optimization. Therefore, the presented robust and non-fragile guaranteed cost controller guarantees the asymptotic stability and non-fragility of the closed loop systems in spite of parameter uncertainties, time delay, and controller fragility.

  • A simple method to design observers for linear describtor systems with unmeasureable disturbance is represented by the response of a linear free system. The sufficient conditions for the existence of the observer are given. The design procedures of an identify and a minimal order observers are shown, respectively.

  • This paper presents matrix inequality conditions for Η$_2$control and Η$_2$controller design method of linear time-invariant descriptor systems with parameter uncertainties in continuous and discrete time cases, respectively. First, the necessary and sufficient condition for Η$_2$control and Η$_2$ controller design method are expressed in terms of LMI(linear matrix inequality) with no equality constraints in continuous time case. Next, the sufficient condition for Hi control and Η$_2$controller design method are proposed by matrix inequality approach in discrete time case. Based on these conditions, we develop the robust Η$_2$controller design method for parameter uncertain descriptor systems and give a numerical example in each case.

  • This paper proposes an efficient and yet powerful local descriptor called phase-space partition based descriptor (PPD). This descriptor is designed for the mobile image matching and retrieval. PPD, which is inspired from SIFT, also encodes the salient aspects of the image gradient in the neighborhood around an interest point. However, without employing SIFT's smoothed gradient orientation histogram, we apply the region based gradient statistics in phase space to the construction of a feature representation, which allows to reduce much computation requirements. The feature matching experiments demonstrate that PPD achieves favorable performance close to that of SIFT and faster building and matching. We also present results showing that the use of PPD descriptors in a mobile image retrieval application results in a comparable performance to SIFT.

  • An affine invariant descriptor is proposed, which is able to well represent the affine covariant regions. Estimating main orientation is still problematic in many existing method, such as SIFT (scale invariant feature transform) and SURF (speeded up robust features). Instead of aligning the estimated main orientation, in this paper ellipse orientation is directly used. According to ellipse orientation, affine covariant regions are firstly divided into 4 sub-regions with equal angles. Since affine covariant regions are divided from the ellipse orientation, the divided sub-regions are rotation invariant regardless the rotation, if any, of ellipse. Meanwhile, the affine covariant regions are normalized into a circular region. In the end, the gradients of pixels in the circular region are calculated and the partition-based descriptor is created by using the gradients. Compared with the existing descriptors including MROGH, SIFT, GLOH, PCA-SIFT and spin images, the proposed descriptor demonstrates superior performance according to extensive experiments.
