  • Objective : This study aimed to assessment for concordance rate in pattern analysis between pattern diagnosis of KiFDA on allergic rhinitis in 2008 and doctor of Korean medicine. Methods : Data were obtained from 35 patients with allergic rhinitis(AR). They were asked to perform the questionnaires and had been interviewed by specialist of Korean Medicine. For correlation analysis, we used Cohen's Kappa. Results : The pattern diagnosis was done only 15 patients(42.9%). Correlation between pattern diagnosis of questionnaires and specialist showed 0.2105 in Kappa and 0.1993 in weighed Kappa. Conclusions : The result may provide the basis of modification in Pattern Diagnosis of KiFDA on allergic rhinitis in 2008.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze the acupuncture and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation(TENS) for tinnitus to identify the trend, effectiveness and mechanism. Methods : Research studies related to objectives were gathered through Pubmed, RISS, KISS, KCI, OASIS with keywords such as 'Tinnitus', 'Autonomic', 'ANS', 'HRV', 'acupuncture', 'transcutaneous' and analyzed. Results : 4 studies were included. Acupuncture was used in 1 study and TENS was used in 3 studies. Tinnitus handicap inventory(THI), fMRI and 'heart rate and blood pressure' were used in 1 study each and heart rate variability(HRV) was used in 3 studies as evaluation tools. Each treatment showed a significant effect. Conclusions : Our findings indicate that acupuncture and TENS could be a potential therapy for tinnitus, however additional well designed RCT are required to establish high level of evidence.

  • Objectives : This study aimed to analyze the recent acupuncture clinical trial on atopic dermatitis and to suggest the plan about how to improve its quality. Methods : Data were collected through electronic database including MEDLINE. We set up the search terms for "atopic dermatitis AND acupuncture" and limited period of data within 6 years and type for RCT(Randomized Clinical Trial), SR(Systemic Review). Results : Total 5 studies were selected. Two were RCTs, and the rest were SRs. RCTs were insufficient about acupoint selection criteria and foundation. SRs both pointed out that systematic clinical trial is required. Conclusions : Based on these, we suggested the plan as follows. 1. Selection criteria - We should reevalute the participants by using diagnostic criteria and scales. 2. Selection acupoints - We should present the foundation that why we choose these acupoints. 3. Establishing acupuncture and control group - We should make control group clearly after calculating the number of participants statistically. 4. Blinding - We should propse the method, type, procedure and evaluation about randomization. 5. Evaluation scale - We should select the suitable scales for research objectives.

Results : Selected 16 studies contain 19 cases in which mainly acupuncture and herbal medicine were practiced to treat ptosis. Treatment period varies from 12 to 134 days. When Korean medical treatment was started before 10 days from the onset, average of treatment period is about 28.6 days, but after 40 days, it increases three times longer. It takes 1.5 times longer to treat ptosis caused from central nerve than which from peripheral nerve. Conclusion : According to the results, Korean medicine can be effective treatment for ptosis which mostly depends on surgical treatment currently. tments of purpura and vasculitis up to date and some points that may have clinical significance.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report a case of lipoma removed by surgical method. Methods : A 69-year-old female was diagnosed with lipoma on the left upper shoulder. Bufonis venenum pharmacopuncture was used for local anesthesia. The 11th blade and the CO2 laser was used for incision. After removal of lipoma, irrigation with soyeom pharmacopuncture solution and simple interrupted suture were carried out. For 7 days, Yeonkyopaedok-san was given and the suture was removed after 14 days. At last, saengkigo was applied. Results : Local anesthesia was maintained. Lipoma sized 3.0×1.0×1.0cm was clearly removed. Adverse effects were not reported until the clear skin adhesion. Conclusions : Lipoma were surgically removed without any complications by using pharmacopuncture and oral herbal medicines that have anti-inflammatory effects. Korean medicine has the potential for surgery and needs to extend the range of surgical treatment.

  • There are many hypothesis about mechanism of acupuncture, and the relationship between acupuncture stimulation and autonomic nervous system(ANS) is one of the powerful hypothesis. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between acupuncture stimulation and ANS. We searched the literature and reports related with acupuncture stimulation(meridian system, meridian points) and autonomic nervous system. And we concluded acupuncture stimulation can control autonomic nervous system. We reviewed studies that contributed to an understanding of the autonomic mechanisms of acupuncture with the hope that this review will be of benefit to the acupuncture treatment.
