The subjects of the survey were 184 intermarried Korean men. The data were analyzed with frequency, Pearson's correlation and structural equation modeling by SPSS and AMOS. The instruments included Jang (2007)'s Daily Life Conflict, Shin (2001)'s Mental Health Scale, Yu (2004)'s Family Health Scale, and Natham et al. (1973)'s Marital Happiness Scale. The major findings were as follows: Daily life conflicts and depression were negatively correlated with family resilience and marital happiness. Family resilience was positively correlated with marital happiness. Family resilience mediated the effects of daily life conflicts, depression and marital happiness. Daily life conflicts and depression influenced family resilience. In conclusion, in order to build family resilience it is important to intervene in intermarried Korean men's marital happiness through special education programs and counseling.
Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the influencing factors of social support, self efficiency and depression among the hearing-impaired and physically disabled on their job stress. Methods: The data were collected from Jan.1 to Aug. 30, 2010 from 151 disabled workers. The instruments for this study were the Korean Occupational Stress Scale (KOSS), Social Support Scale, General Self-Efficacy Scale and Beck Depression Inventory-Korean Version (K-BDI). The data were analyzed using t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression with the SPSS/WIN 18.0. Results: The physically disabled show higher social support (t=0.284, p= .001) and self efficacy (t=0.165, p= .024) but lower in depression (t=0.789, p<.001) than the hearing-impaired. There are negative correlation between job stress and social support, job stress and self efficacy but a positive correlation between job stress and depression. These three factors explained 42.9% of the variance in job stress. Conclusion: Social support and self efficacy have positive impacts on job stress but depression has negative impact.
Purpose: The study was attempted to provide basic materials for development of nursing-intervention programs by examining effects of growth hormone therapy on the quality of life, depression and self-esteem. Method: A survey was conducted for 31 adult outpatients as experimental group who have received growth hormone therapy more than 6 months and for 29 adults as control group who have not. A scale developed by Hilditch was used to measure their quality of life and also, the Zung's Self-rating Depression Scale and the Rosenberg's Self-esteem Scale were adopted to measure their depression and self-esteem each. Data were analyzed using one-way and two-way ANOVA Result: 1) there were differences between the two groups in the overall measurement of the quality of life. the growth hormone therapy group was higher in sub-factors 2) There were clear-cut differences between the two groups in depression, so that the control group marked higher score in the measurement of depression. 3) Self-esteem was not identical across the two groups, so that it was more higher for the growth hormone treatment group. Conclusion: Those findings suggest that development of education programs related to growth hormone and nursing-intervention is promising.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of the aroma massage on shoulder pain, depression, and sleep disturbance in hemiparesis patients. The instruments used for this study were Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) for shoulder pain, Zung' depression scale, 4 score's scale for sleep disturbance. The data were analyzed using SPSS and hypotheses were examined with ANCOVA. Results: Shoulder pain, depression, and sleep disturbance were significantly lower in the experimental group compared than the control group. Conclusion: The aroma massage using selected essential oils is an effective intervention for relieving shoulder pain, depression, sleep disturbance in hemiparesis patients. However differences between aroma massage and massage were not clear, further study needs to be done.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between climacteric symptoms and depression of middle-aged women. Data were collected from Jul. 1 to Jul. 31, 2000 by a structured questionnaire. The Subjects were 102 middle-aged women who non-hysterectomized and ranged in age from 40 to 59. The instruments were the climacteric symptoms scale developed by Neugarten and depression scale developed by Zung. The Data were analyzed by the SPSS/PC+ program using t-test, ANOVA and Pearson Correlation Coefficient. The results of the study were as follows ; 1. Mean score of climacteric symptoms was 0.72. 2. There were statistically significant differences in the score of middle-abed women's self reported climacteric symptoms according to the age(F=3.13, P<0.05), and times of pregnancy(F=3.24, P<0.05). 3. Mean score of depression scale was 49.2. About 39% of the women displayed a variety depression symptoms. 4. Women's degree of climacteric symptoms showed a positive correlation with the degree of depression(r= 0.5393, P<0.001). This study shows possible implication for nursing intervention of middle-aged women's health to prevent and relieve climacteric symptoms.
This study is intended to analyze colors felt in TV commercials among video contents, to provide basic resources of color plan that can be applied to production of contents and to help acceptors to change their mood and to lower depression levels. Many studies have revealed the obvious correlation between depression and suicide, so the World Health Organization(WHO) recommends the importance of media by recognizing public that depression is a serious risk factor that leads to suicides and by asserting the necessity of establishing social environment for active treatment. Contents production companies have social and cultural responsibility to convey correct information and to make acceptors have positive emotions. If the result of colors that emotionally healthy people feel through this study is used for production of video contents, it will be helpful to lower the depression scale and to prevent and treat depression by providing visual comfort. In addition, it is expected to be used as an important basic resource for not only production of video contents but also color plan of industrial fields.
Purpose: This study was to identify the impact of spiritual wellbeing and social support on the depression among middle-aged women. Descriptive study design was used. Methods: The subjects completed the structured questionnaires: the 'Spiritual Well-being Scale', developed by Paloutzian & Ellison, 'the Social Support Scale' developed by Park, and 'the CES-D Scale' developed by Radloff. Data were collected from 216 middle aged women in B metropolitan city and J city. The data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$ test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regressions. Results: Participants with higher depression had lower scores for spiritual wellbeing (r=-.57, p<.001) and lower scores for social support (r=-.49, p=.011). The influencing factors on depression were spiritual wellbeing, social support, and utilization of spare time. These variables were explained 46% of the variance in depression. Conclusion: The depression of the middle-aged women can be reduced when spiritual wellbeing and social support are improved. Therefore, we suggested to develop nursing intervention programs in order to improve spiritual wellbeing and social support of middle-aged women for reducing their depressions.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the living arrangement, life satisfaction and depression in the elderly. Method: The subjects consisted of 371 elderly who has at least one adult child classifying two groups(living with children and not living with children). The data were collected by a structured questionnaire that included general characteristics, Geriatric Leisure Activity Scale, Geriatric Life Satisfaction Scale, Geriatric Depression Scale, from March to December, 2004. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS program including descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2-test$, t-test, Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Hierarchical Regression. Result: In hierarchical regression, the elders who live with their children showed more life satisfaction than elders who lived by themselves. However, living arrangement showed no effect on the level of depression of the elderly parents. Significant leisure activity interaction effect was found on the depression among the elderly: The elderly with no leisure activity reported lower levels of depression when they lived with their adult child. Conclusion: It is necessary to explore further the various relationship among living arrangement and life satisfaction of the elderly, their preferences and expectations regarding inter-generational obligations and living arrangements.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of resilience, family support, anxiety and depression in patients with hematologic malignancy, and to determine modifiable psychosocial factors that affect their resilience. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to determine the fatigue, self-esteem, and depression of pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (G-DM), and to reveal associated factors of depression. Methods: As a descriptive correlation study, data was collected from 119 pregnant women with G-DM. Data was analysed using t-test, ANOVA, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Fatigue, self-esteem, and depression averaged $2.09{\pm}.62$ (range of scale 1~4), $2.63{\pm}.32$ (range of scale 1~6), and $0.45{\pm}.25$ (range of scale 0~3), respectively. The depression varied with a statistical significance according to the age (p=.008), employment (p=.014), child (p=.034), and physical and psychological adjustment of pregnancy (p<.001). We also identified fatigue as the most influencing factor and the physical and psychological adjustment of pregnancy as the second most influencing factor, self-esteem as the third, age as the fourth, and child as the influencing factor on the G-DM women's depression. Conclusions: This research provided a valuable opportunity to recognize G-DM as a personal, and societal problem, which calls for relational support as well as personal support. The healthcare providers need to recognize the emotional aspects of the women with G-DM, and make various efforts to promote the physical and psychological health of the G-DM patients.
