Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate extracurricular program needs according to the learning styles of dental hygiene students, and to develop and organize non-subject programs that strengthen student competencies. Methods: The subjects in this study were dental hygiene students from three colleges located in Chungbuk, Chungnam, and Ulsan, respectively. The survey tools were composed of learning style, a non-subject field, and non-subject teaching and learning methods. Lastly, 313 data points were analyzed. Results: Learning styles of subjects were as follows: assimilators, divergers, convergers, and accommodators, at 44.6%, 33.0%, 16.0%, and 6.4%, respectively. Preference of the non-subject field, according to learning style, showed that accommodators were higher than divergers on startup, and the difference was found to be statistically significant (p<0.05). Preference of non-subject teaching and learning methods, according to learning style, shows that both divergers and convergers prefer special lectures, while assimilators prefer tours, and convergers prefer experience/exercise. The results had achieved statistical significance (p<0.05). Conclusions: This study shows that dental hygiene students had different learning styles, and their learning methods varied depending on learning style. Therefore, a method should be identified to develop and run non-subject programs suitable for each learning style.
Objectives: We evaluated the learning objectives of dental hygiene courses based on Bloom's learning objectives, and analyze the degree of match with the dental hygienist's job for each detailed subject. Methods: The 5th edition of 'Dental hygiene and learning objectives' was analyzed by subject based on Bloom's cognitive domain classification from March 10 to April. In addition, the degree of match between the contents of the secondary job analysis of the dental hygienist and the learning objectives for each detailed subject were analyzed. Results: The total number of dental hygiene learning objectives was 2,975 (2,762 theory, 52 practice). Among the cognitive domains, the comprehension domain was the most common (79.8%), and the skill domain was very low (4.9%). In the job for each detailed subject of dental hygiene, the most frequently performed was 'dental prophylaxis and practice' with 103 subjects. Conclusions: Overall, dental hygiene learning objectives are mostly theory-oriented, so it is necessary to expand and improve in the direction related to the jobs that clinical dental hygienists perform in the field. In addition, it is necessary to continuously develop timely learning goals, and prepare active strategies for developing high-quality items.
A purpose of this study is degree of recognition and consciousness investigation about a satisfaction duty before admission about a school subject of some academic dental hygiene students. From responses to individual written survey questionnaires answered by 608 students who are studying Dental Hygiene at colleges in Mokpo, Iksan, Gangneung. The research which it sees against the self concept of part dental hygienes students from the hazard which it examines dental hygienes which is located on Kyoung-Buk and students 318 people in the object un-signature it enforced a research with the entry method which it got a same result. 1. From general characteristics of part hygiene students "the employment went well from the motive which selects hygiene" and it appeared most highly. The employment will go well and the social advance will do and ease when seeing specially with characteristics of college, it has an corresponding with the fact that is a possibility of employment.. 2. The average score against the self concept of part hygiene students "me it is an existence which is isolated from this world and nothing to do with the others". It appeared most highly with 3.52. The negation self concept appeared more highly affirmative self concept than. 3. To self concept and grade, religion, health condition, hygiene selection motive, subject record and native high school of part hygiene students the difference which considers statistically did not appear(p>0.05). However it tries to observe the self concept which it follows subject satisfactory degree, it is very unsatisfactorily(3.37) with it is unsatisfactorily(3.16) gaps it was not visible the difference which considers statistically, it is very satisfied(3.37) with the difference which considers statistically it was visible(p<0.05). Students the affirmative reaction is correct phenomenon in order to establish a specialty intuition. 4. When self concept and record and the subject satisfaction sees a interrelation for, Between self concept subject satisfaction is appeare big affirmative interrelation(r=0.331) and the subject record and subject satisfaction just interrelation appeared as well(r=0.282) all they considered statistically and appeared.(p=0.000) but to self concept and subject record for the interrelation did not appear. Negation self concept of part hygiene students appears more strongly than affirmative one, And studying for self concept of the students, it leads through the program which is the possibility to pull affirmatively is demanded.
The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data needed to plan the effective teaching design of scaling education and to measure the changes in students' confidence in performing scaling according to the number of scaling practices. Scaling education is presented as a core basic hygiene competency of dental hygienists and evaluated as the practical competency of dental hygienists. This study selected 48 third-year students from the department of dental hygiene at S University in Asan, and analyzed data from completed participant surveys. The degree of "confidence in facing the subject in clinical practice," "confidence in applying hand instrument to the subject," and "confidence in applying ultrasonic instruments to the subject" was assessed on a five-point Likert scale. The difference in confidence was analyzed during five practice sessions. Each response was compared using frequency analysis, chi-square test, and repeated measurement ANOVA. Students who complained of a lack of confidence in the 14.6%, 25.0%, and 12.5%, respectively, in face-to-face practice, hand instruments, and ultrasonic instrument application responses. The more the practice was repeated, the more confident students were in all three categories, and the more statistically significant (p<0.001). As the number of scaling practice sessions increased, students' confidence in performing scaling also improved. In particular, the level of self-confidence was higher after the third practice session when compared to the first session. Therefore, it is necessary to design effective courses for teaching scaling practices so that at least three repetitive practice periods can be provided in clinical dental hygiene practices.
This study lays its purpose on providing basic material for managing dental hygiene care programs by grasping images of the elderly perceived by dental hygienists and their behaviors toward the elderly, who have an important role in improving the elderly's dental health in the aging society. For these purposes, the researcher conducted a self-administrative questionnaire survey of 370 dental hygienists working in dental clinics or offices located in the Seoul and Daejeon areas from June 2 to 21 in 2008 and collected data, statistical analysis of the $x^2$-test, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson Correlation used. resulting in the following findings. 1. In perceived images of the elderly according to their general characteristics, a subject group with under 8-year career showed 85.38 points, indicating the statistically significant difference (p=0.001). 2. When we look at perceived images of the elderly and behaviors toward them according their characteristics, in images of the elderly, a subject group with positive perceptions of the elderly showed 85.51 points (p=0.000), a subject group with meaningful old person(s), 84.66 points (p=0.000), a subject group living with old person(s), 86.04 points (p=0.001), and a subject group with experience in volunteer service activities, 84.11 points (p=0.001), and in behaviors toward the elderly, a subject group with positive perceptions of the elderly and with meaningful old person(s) showed 56.46 (p=0.036) and 55.91 points respectively, indicating the statistically significant difference (p=0.040). 3. Images of the elderly and behaviors toward them showed a positive correlation, indicating that the more positive images of the elderly, the more positive behaviors toward them (r=0.317). Putting these results together, it is thought that it is time to need continuous education and efforts regarding the formation of desirable relationships with and images of the elderly and behaviors toward them, for dental hygienists who have an important role in managing and enhancing the elderly's dental health in the aging society.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the author key words and MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) terms in the Journal of Korean Society of Dental Hygiene (JKSDH). Methods: A total of 3,242 author key words from 974 informative articles published from 2001 to 2015 were compared with MeSH terms, according to the criteria of complete coincidence, incomplete coincidence, and complete non-coincidence. Results: The coincidence rate of 564 author key words with MeSH terms was 17.4%. The author key words that appeared most frequently (in descending order) were oral health (41 times), dental hygienists (30 times), dental caries (29 times), and knowledge (29 times). There was a non-coincidence rate of 70.5% for 2,286 author key words with MeSH terms. Conclusions: Many author key words used in the JKSDH did not coincide with MeSH terms. The use of author key words that coincide with MeSH terms is necessary to accomplish the international journal.
