Halitosis is caused by consumption of certain foods or drinks and production of volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) by periodontopathogens. VSCs-related halitosis is not easily removed using mechanical or chemical therapies such as dental floss, plaque control and mouth rinse. Lactobacillus are known to be probiotics and stimulate immune systems of human. Furthermore, L. casei ATCC 334 and L. rhamnosus GG have an effect on protection of dental caries in vitro studies. The aim of this study was to investigate effect of Lactobacillus on halitosis by Fusobacterium nucleatum- and Porphyromonas gingivalis-producing VSCs and to analyze inhibitory mechanism. The periodontopathogens were cultivated in the presence or the absence Lactobacillus, and the level of VSCs was measured by gas chromatograph. For analysis of inhibitory mechanisms, the susceptibility assay of the spent culture medium of Lactobacillus against F. nucleatum and P. gingivalis was investigated. Also, the spent culture medium of Lactobacillus and periodontopathogens were mixed, and the emission of VSCs from the spent culture medium was measured by gas chromatograph. L. casei and L. rhamnosus significantly reduced production of VSCs. L. casei and L. rhamnosus exhibited strong antibacterial activity against F. nucleatum and P. gingivalis. The spent culture medium of L. casei inhibited to emit gaseous hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan and dimethyl sulfide from the spent culture medium of periodontopathogens. However, the spent medium of L. rhamnosus repressed only dimethyl sulfide. L. casei ATCC 334 may improve halitosis by growth inhibition of periodontopathogens and reduction of VSCs emission.
Objectives : The purpose of the study is to develop a program of oral health education by investigating the use and educational needs on auxiliary oral care products in employees. Therefore, to increase the use of oral hygiene auxiliary supplies to patients of the appropriate selection and correct usage of oral hygiene auxiliary supplies and the resulting effects have sufficient training to practice more efficiently should be.
This study aims to analyze effects of mothers' socioeconomic features, and knowledge and behavior of oral health on experience and purpose of using dentistry. By survey to 103 mothers of 5-6 year old children, who use day care centers in seoul, the results are obtained as follows: 1. As for the rate of experiencing dental care classified by its purpose, 56.7% for dental treatment, 23.3% for regular check-up and 20.0% for precaution 2. There was no significant difference of correlativity between mothers' socioeconomic features and knowledge of oral health and experience of using dental care, while the lower rate of using dental floss, the higher rate of experiencing dental care(p < 0.01). 3. In respect of correlativity between mother's socioeconomic features and purpose of using dental care, the purpose of regular checkup was high in a group of mothers between 33 and 35 years old(71.4%) by ages and in a group of mothers who graduated from college(57.1%) by academic background(p < 0.05). 4. In correlativity between mothers' behavior of oral health and purpose of using dental care, the result showed that the higher the rate of using dental floss was, the higher the rate of experiencing dental care for a regular check-up was(p < 0.001) and the higher the rate of using fluoride dentifrices was, the higher the rate of using dental care for cure was(p < 0.05). 5. Multiple regression based on dependent variable of experience in using dental care showed that average monthly income(less than 2,500,000 won) was significant explanatory factor with 65% of explanatory variance. On the other hand, multiple regression based on dependent variable of purpose of using dental care showed that vocation(professional job) and age(between 33 and 35 years old) was significant explanatory factor with 70% of explanatory variance for a regular check-up, age(between 33 and 35 years old) and average monthly income (less than 2,500,000 won) was significant factor with 78% of explanatory variance for precaution and age(less than 32 years old) was significant explanatory factor with 33% of explanatory variance for treatment.
This purpose of this study was to provide the basic data for preventing dental caries, and maintaining and enhancing oral health. The subject of this study through the survey of the recognition of oral health, a questionnaire survey was conducted for 545 male and female students who were in the 4th, 5th, 6th grade of elementary school in Ulsan city. Oral health knowledge false for Dental floss silk, Fluoride and very low. 2. The students who were in the 4th, 5th, 6th grade of elementary school is Oral health knowledge, behavior and tooth brushing frequency 4th 5th grade higher than 6th grade(p = 0.000, p,0.005). 3. Oral health knowledge is higher behavior high date (p = 0.001), and Oral health behavior is higher many tooth brushing frequency (p = 0.000).
This study is designed to take a look at college women's understanding of the actual condition of their smoking and the harmfulness of their smoking, to make an analysis of smoking factors affecting oral health and to present basic materials for the development of oral health education programs. Data was analysed into Pearson chi-square test and Fisher's exact test using SAS 8.01 program. Results : 1. The rate of using oral hygiene product was increased, but the rate of non-using people remains 65.8% on the 2006 data. 2. The non-using group of the oral hygiene products was the age of sixty, farmer, rancher, fisherman, military, ruralist, smoker and the people do not concern about their oral health(p<0.05). Conclusion : To improve the rate of using oral hygiene products, effective motivation method would be necessary. In addition, It is required to educate the group more individually. Purpose: Many home care treatments can be used to promote the health and longevity of dental implants; however, few studies are available to support the concept that self-performed oral hygiene behaviors are an essential tool for improving and maintaining oral health. We investigated age-stratified associations between dental health behaviors related to tooth brushing (TB) and oral hygiene product use in Korean adults with implants. Methods: A total of 1,911 subjects over 19 years of age who had 1 or more implants and who participated in the 2013 to 2015 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were reviewed. Periodontal status was assessed using Community Periodontal Index (CPI) scores, and periodontitis was defined as a CPI greater than or equal to 3. The complex sampling design of the survey was utilized to obtain the variance and individual weight of each analyzed factor. A high CPI was the outcome variable, and the main explanatory variables were oral hygiene behaviors, such as TB, dental floss (DF), interproximal brushing, and mouth rinsing. Results: Almost all individuals with a lower CPI brushed their teeth twice or more per day, in contrast to those with a higher CPI, and were likely to use DF. The adjusted odds ratio of not using DF for a higher CPI was 1.83 (95% confidence interval, 1.35-2.49). Conclusions: TB was implemented more than twice a day by patients with good oral health, and the combination of TB and DF significantly reduced the prevalence of a higher CPI. Self-performed oral hygiene practices combining TB and DF were significantly related to a low prevalence of periodontitis in implant patients.
