We present our first attempt at understanding the dual impact of the large-scale density and velocity environment on the formation of very first astrophysical objects in the Universe. Following the recently developed quasi-linear perturbation theory on this effect, we introduce the publicly available initial condition generator of ours, BCCOMICS (Baryon Cold dark matter COsMological Inital Condition generator for Small scales), which provides so far the most self-consistent treatment of this physics beyond the usual linear perturbation theory. From a suite of uniform-grid simulations of N-body+hydro+BCCOMICS, we find that the formation of first astrophysical objects is strongly affected by both the density and velocity environment. Overdensity and streming-velocity (of baryon against cold dark matter) are found to give positive and negative impact on the formation of astrophysical objects, which we quantify in terms of various physical variables.
Large-scale High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) wind power generators suffer from high electromagnetic force and high torque due to their high current density and low rotational speed. Therefore, the torque and Lorentz force of HTS wind power generators should be carefully investigated. In this paper, we proposed a Performance Evaluation System (PES) to physically test the structural stability of HTS coils with high torque before fabricating the generator. The PES is composed of the part of a pole-pair of the HTS generator for estimating the characteristic of the HTS coil. The 10 MW HTS generator and PES were analyzed using a 3D finite element method software. The performance of the HTS coil was evaluated by comparing the magnetic field distributions, the output power, and torque values of the 10 MW HTS generator and the PES. The magnetic flux densities, output power, and torque values of the HTS coils in the PES were the same as a pole-pair of the 10 MW HTS generator. Therefore, the PES-based evaluation method proposed in this paper can be used to estimate the critical characteristics of the HTS generator under high magnetic field and high torque before manufacturing the HTS wind turbines. These results will be used effectively to research and manufacture large-scale HTS wind turbine generators.
This paper discusses design aspects of slotless permanent magnet generator for high performance and low speed applications. The airgap flux density in was obtained from finite element analysis and the design of a PM generator. The relatively large diameter stator laminations of such machines tend, therefore, to have a very thin back of core and narrow teeth, which make them expensive and difficult to manufacture. this thesis proposes an alternative PM generator topology featuring a slotless stator whose laminations are manufactured from a split core. The test results with a resistive load confirm the satisfactory operation of generator.

We have designed the backward wave oscillator, a power-pulsed generator oscillated at 20 GHz has higher frequency than current one. An absolute instability linear analysis was used for the purpose of designing the slow wave structure. A large diameter (D/$\lambda$=4.8) of the slow wave structure was adopted to prevent the breakdown brought about by the increase of power density. We have fabricated a marx generator, pulse forming line and diode. And the development of a compact pulsed power generator with short period and low amplitude is expected.
The flame stabilization and the combustion characteristics of diffusion flame formed in the wake of a cylindrical bluff body with fuel injection are studied. With the turbulence generator, the flame stability limits and ion currents were measured and analyzed. The results from this experimental study are summarized as follows. The region with highest average value of ion currents in the middle of flame is moved to the upstream side by the turbulent components of main stream. The flame mass with partially active reaction is moved fast for uniform flow and turbulence generator G3, but the flame mass with relatively slow reaction is moved slowly for turbulence generator G1. If the turbulence generator with strong turbulent component is installed, the turbulent time scale is increased with movement from main stream side to recirculation zone as well as the flame stability limits is deteriorated. Though the special dominant frequency is not appeared in the eddy which exists in flame, high frequency characteristics are appeared in uniform flow and turbulence generator G3, and low frequency characteristics are appeared in uniform flow, turbulence generator G3 and G1.
Since the fuel cell uses the hydrogen for its fuel. it has no emission and higher efficiency than an internal combustion engine. Also fuel cell is much quieter than engine generator and generates heat much less than engine generator. So it has advantage of Army's 'si lent watch' capability and the ability to operate undetected by the enemy. The fuel cell hybrid system combines a fuel cell power system with an ESS. The ESS (e.g., batteries or ultracapacitors) reduces the fuel cell's peak power and transient response requirements. It allows the fuel cell to operate more efficiently and recovery of vehicle energy during deceleration. The battery has high energy density, so it has the advantage regarding driving distance. However, it has a disadvantage considering dynamic characteristic because of low power density. One other hand. the ultracapacitor has higher power density, so it can handle sudden change or discharge of required power. Yet. it has lower energy density. so it will be bigger and heavier than the battery when it has the same energy. This paper proposes the power management strategy for multi-power source fuel cell hybrid system. which is applied with the merits of both battery and ultra capacitor by using both of them simultaneous.

In nitride and oxide film deposition, sputtered metals react with nitrogen or oxygen gas in a vacuum chamber to form metal nitride or oxide films on a substrate. The physical properties of sputtered films (metals, oxides, and nitrides) are strongly influenced by magnetron plasma density during the deposition process. Typical target power densities on the magnetron during the deposition process are ~ (5-30) W/cm2, which gives a relatively low plasma density. The main challenge in reactive sputtering is the ability to generate a stable, arc free discharge at high plasma densities. Arcs occur due to formation of an insulating layer on the target surface caused by the re-deposition effect. One current method of generating an arc free discharge is to use the commercially available Pinnacle Plus+ Pulsed DC plasma generator manufactured by Advanced Energy Inc. This plasma generator uses a positive voltage pulse between negative pulses to attract electrons and discharge the target surface, thus preventing arc formation. However, this method can only generate low density plasma and therefore cannot allow full control of film properties. Also, after long runs ~ (1-3) hours, depends on duty cycle the stability of the reactive process is reduced due to increased probability of arc formation. Between 1995 and 1999, a new way of magnetron sputtering called HIPIMS (highly ionized pulse impulse magnetron sputtering) was developed. The main idea of this approach is to apply short ${\sim}(50-100){\mu}s$ high power pulses with a target power densities during the pulse between ~ (1-3) kW/cm2. These high power pulses generate high-density magnetron plasma that can significantly improve and control film properties. From the beginning, HIPIMS method has been applied to reactive sputtering processes for deposition of conductive and nonconductive films. However, commercially available HIPIMS plasma generators have not been able to create a stable, arc-free discharge in most reactive magnetron sputtering processes. HIPIMS plasma generators have been successfully used in reactive sputtering of nitrides for hard coating applications and for Al2O3 films. But until now there has been no HIPIMS data presented on reactive sputtering in cluster tools for semiconductors and MEMs applications. In this presentation, a new method of generating an arc free discharge for reactive HIPIMS using the new Cyprium plasma generator from Zpulser LLC will be introduced. Data (or evidence) will be presented showing that arc formation in reactive HIPIMS can be controlled without applying a positive voltage pulse between high power pulses. Arc-free reactive HIPIMS processes for sputtering AlN, TiO2, TiN and Si3N4 on the Applied Materials ENDURA 200 mm cluster tool will be presented. A direct comparison of the properties of films sputtered with the Advanced Energy Pinnacle Plus + plasma generator and the Zpulser Cyprium plasma generator will be presented.

By using a coupled circuit, time-stepping, two-dimensional finite element method (2-D FEM), the performance of a stand-alone permanent-magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) with inset rotor can be computed without involving the classical two-axis model. The effects of interpolar air gap length and armature resistance on the load characteristics are investigated. It is shown that the interpolar flux density, and hence the amount of voltage compensation, is affected by magnetic saturation. Validity of the coupled circuit and field analysis is confirmed by experiments on a prototype generator. The machine exhibits an approximately level load characteristic when it is supplying an isolated unity-power-factor load.
This paper compares the features of second generation (2G) High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) field coil with those of magnesium diboride ($MgB_2$) field coil for a 10 MW class superconducting generator. Both coils can function effectively in their respective magnetic flux density range: 10-12 T for 2G HTS field coil, 2 T for $MgB_2$ superconducting field coil. Even though some leading researchers have been developing 10 MW class superconducting generator with 2G HTS field coil, other research groups have begun to focus on $MgB_2$ wire, which is more economical and suitable for mass production. However 2G HTS wire is still appealing in functions such as in-field property and critical temperature, it shows higher in-field property and critical temperature than $MgB_2$ wire.
This paper deals with analytical approach for rotor loss prediction of permanent magnet synchronous generator(PMSG). The rotor losses of synchronous generator are induced by the magnets. Since stator of our model is skewed, slotting effect can be negligible for our PM wind turbine generator. In order to calculate eddy current, this paper derives analytical solutions by the magnetic vector potential. Finally this paper compared analytical result with eddy current density obtained from finite element(FE) calculations using phase current harmonics analysis.
