  • This paper presents a fast calculation method for evaluating of voltage stability margin (MW) using the line flow equation in polar form. Here, Line flow equations $(P_{ij},\;Q_{ij}$ are comprised of state variable, $V_i,\;{\Delta}_i,\;V_j$ and ${Delta}_j$, and line parameter, r and x. using the feature of polar coordinate, these becomes one equation with two variables, $V_j,;V_j$. Moreover, if bus j is slack or generator bus, which is specified voltage magnitude in load flow calculation, it becomes one equation with one variable $V_ i $ that is, may be formulated with the second-order equation for $V^2_i$. Therefore, multiple load flow solutions may be obtained with simple computation. The obtained load flow multiple solutions are used for evaluating of voltage stability through sensitivity analysis or its closeness. Also, the method is proposed to calculate for voltage stability margin considering shunt capacitor, which is important element for evaluating of voltage stability. The proposed method was validated to sample systems.

  • This paper presents the effect of the feature extraction methods used in the audio preprocessing on the classification performance of the Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). We extract mel spectrogram, log mel spectrogram, Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC), and delta MFCC from the UrbanSound8K dataset, which is widely used in environmental sound classification studies. Then we scale the data to 3 distributions. Using the data, we test four CNNs, VGG16, and MobileNetV2 networks for performance assessment according to the audio features and scaling. The highest recognition rate is achieved when using the unscaled log mel spectrum as the audio features. Although this result is not appropriate for all audio recognition problems but is useful for classifying the environmental sounds included in the Urbansound8K.

  • This paper focuses on the study of the face authentication system and the robustness of fact authentication methods under illumination changes. Four different face authentication methods are tried. These methods are as fellows; PCA(Principal Component Analysis), GMM(Gaussian Mixture Modeis), 1D HMM(1 Dimensional Hidden Markov Models), Pseudo 2D HMM(Pseudo 2 Dimensional Hidden Markov Models). Experiment results involving an artificial illumination change to fate images are compared with each other. Face feature vector extraction based on the 2D DCT(2 Dimensional Discrete Cosine Transform) if used. Experiments to evaluate the above four different fate authentication methods are carried out on the ORL(Olivetti Research Laboratory) face database. Experiment results show the EER(Equal Error Rate) performance degrade in ail occasions for the varying ${\delta}$. For the non illumination changes, Pseudo 2D HMM is $2.54{\%}$,1D HMM is $3.18{\%}$, PCA is $11.7{\%}$, GMM is $13.38{\%}$. The 1D HMM have the bettor performance than PCA where there is no illumination changes. But the 1D HMM have worse performance than PCA where there is large illumination changes(${\delta}{\geq}40$). For the Pseudo 2D HMM, The best EER performance is observed regardless of the illumination changes.

  • Of the vast number of plant taxa in the world, the wood is one of the most useful resources. It is important to identify the fibers of wood and pulp for the plant taxonomy and for the uses, but we do not have enough information on them, on them, especially for the computerizd data. The fiber identification is one of the difficult tasks. In addition to the plant taxonomy and the fiber-using industries, such identification is also important in many other fields, including education. document examiners, etc. For these purpose, the fibers should be exactly distinguished. The TISS system I have programed to identify various woods would also be useful in the identification of fibers by the genus and species in the features of unknown samples and in searching the features of a species based on its scientific name. Such searching programs are being developed in many other countries with a view to searching for the species name by using the features of the cells of the woody materials. With the survey of all the available literature, the features of the fibers of 124 species both of softwood and hardwood were examined under the electron and optical microscopies. Each species were coded and carded by the feature, and the databases were built. The microscopic were inputted into a personal computer program called and by a slide film scanner. The new computer program called TISS 2 was developed using C computer language. Korean language fonts were added to the TISS 2. The TISS 2 can be in adding and searching a image of fiber features both of a known fiber and an unknown fiber. The databases were corded for the DELTA system with was developed by Dallwitz and Paine in Australia, 1986.

  • An experimental study of the vortical flow characteristics around a yawed delta wing with the leading edge extension at high incidence angle is undertaken by upper surface pressure measurements. A special emphasis has been put on analyzing the basic physics of vortical flows, concerning the effects of incidence and sideslip angle on the aerodynamic characteristics of the wing, especially under high angle of attack. The experimental data has been dearly demonstrated the beneficial effect of the LEX vortex on the wing vortex. It leads to an essential stabilization of the wing vortex against its breakdown until at much higher incidence angle under small sideslip. An interesting flow feature is occurrence of the rolling moment reversal at a certain range of angle of attack and sideslip angle.

  • In this paper, we construct a Korean text-to-speech system using the Merlin toolkit which is an open source system for speech synthesis. In the text-to-speech system, the HMM-based statistical parametric speech synthesis method is widely used, but it is known that the quality of synthesized speech is degraded due to limitations of the acoustic modeling scheme that includes context factors. In this paper, we propose an acoustic modeling architecture that uses deep neural network technique, which shows excellent performance in various fields. Fully connected deep feedforward neural network (DNN), recurrent neural network (RNN), gated recurrent unit (GRU), long short-term memory (LSTM), bidirectional LSTM (BLSTM) are included in the architecture. Experimental results have shown that the performance is improved by including sequence modeling in the architecture, and the architecture with LSTM or BLSTM shows the best performance. It has been also found that inclusion of delta and delta-delta components in the acoustic feature parameters is advantageous for performance improvement.

  • Late Quaternary deposits of the core in the western area of the Nakdong River delta consist of four sedimentary units: Unit I, II, III and IV, in ascending order, controlled by the sea-level change since the last interglacial period. Unit I unconformable overlying Cretaceous basement rocks is composed of sandy gravel and sand deposited in a fluvial channel before the first marine transgression. Unit II composed of stiff massive mud is interpreted as a shallow marine deposits formed during the last interglacial period (probably MIS 5). The development of the fissures coated with oxidized materials in the upper part of Unit II is a feature of subaerial exposure, which indicates erosional contact with the upper Unit III. Unit III is made up of soft massive mud and soft shelly massive mud deposited in a tidal flat and a inner shelf, respectively, since the Holocene transgression (about 9,000 yr BP). Unit Ⅳ consisted of soft shell bedded mud and yellowish sandy mud was deposited in the delta environments during the regression (after about 5,000 yr BP). The lower shell bedded mud was deposited in a tidal flat and the upper sandy mud was deposited in the floodplain corresponding to present site of the Nakdong River delta.

  • This study examines the authenticity discrimination of the circulated honey by using stable isotope ratio methods. In the case of domestic honey, the range of ${\delta}^{13}C$ for the samples labeled as pure honey was about -27- -21‰ at the $C_3$ origin, and the range of that for artificial honey was over -19‰ at the $C_4$ origin. The range of ${\delta}^{13}C$ for all imported honey was over -27- -23‰ originating from the $C_3$ plant. According to the nectar-source, ${\delta}^2H$ and ${\delta}^{18}O$ for domestic honey were significantly different for 6 and 5 groups, respectively. However, we could not explain the detailed relationship as well as the geographical feature of ${\delta}^2H$ and ${\delta}^{18}O$. The difference for ${\delta}^2H$ and ${\delta}^{18}O$ in the wide range of latitude, such as between Australia and Canada, was more or less shown. However, it was difficult to find out the trends of ${\delta}^2H$ and ${\delta}^{18}O$ for imported honey versus the geographical information in the similar latitudinal country.

  • Monoclonal antibody for delta-9-tetrahydrocannabiol (THC Ab), conjugated with protein A-gold, was employed as a probe to detect THC localization in the gland and subjacent cells of chemically fixed bracts of Cannabis. THC was detected in the outer wall of the disc cells, fibrillar matrix, the surface feature of secretory vesicles, and sheath throughout development of the secretory cavity. The probe was absent from vesicles. Label was also present in anticlinal walls of disc cells and walls of dermal and mesophyll cells. Little or no THC Ab was present in disc cells and none were detected in control tissues. This distribution pattern of THC Ab was similar to that in tissues prepared by high pressure cryofixation-cryosubstitution. Consistent association of THC with wall and wall-derived materials suggests that cannnabinoids are synthesized outside the plasma membrane and bound to a wall component, where-upon they are transported to the cavity with wall materials released from the disc cell wall during development of the secretory cavity.
