Background and Objectives : Constipation is a common digestive disorder and enema is one of the external intervention for constipation. Coffee enema was originated by Dr. Gerson for the purpose of colon cleansing and detoxification. However there has been no study about the effect of coffee enema on constipation. Therefore, this study was planned to evaluate the effect of coffee enema on constipation in the terms of constipation degree and satisfaction questionnaire. Methods : 42 patients were treated of the coffee enema 2 times a week. The constipation score(Constipation Assessment Scale) and frequency of defecation were checked 3 times (before treatment, 1 week and 1 month later). The satisfaction score was also checked 1 week and 1 month later. The interval differences of constipation score between pre- and post-treatment according to body mass index were also analyzed. Results and Conclusions : The constipation scores, frequency of defecation scores checked 1 week and 1 month later were significantly(p<0.01) improved as compared with those before the treatment. The satisfaction scores were close to 'moderately satisfied' 1 week and 1 month later. The scores of 6 parameters in constipation assessment scale, frequency of defecation scores and satisfaction scores were maintained until 1 month later. There was no significant difference in the change of constipation scores between normal BMI and overweight group. 4.2% of the patients reported adverse effects, which were nausea, abdominal distension each.

Background: Serum concentration of cystatin C, a marker of glomerular filtration has been associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD). The aim of this study was to evaluate cystatin C as a marker of obese patients without chronic kidney disease (CKD). Materials and Methods: The study population consisted of 36 subjects with metabolic syndrome and 32 subjects free of metabolic syndrome (the control group). HDL-C, LDL-C, blood urea, triglycerides, glucose, HbA1c, serum cystatin C and serum creatinine were measured in both groups. GFR was calculated in both groups using Cockroft-Gault equation. Results: Obese patients showed higher cystatin C levels than normal samples ($1.28{\pm}0.29$, P < 0.05). In the binary logistic regression, obese patients were significantly associated with elevated cystatin C levels. Conclusion: Our results suggest that cystatin C may be a marker for obese patients and may identify a certain degree of renal dysfunction even when serum creatinine does not exceed the normal level. In this study, we demonstrated that serum creatinineand GFR did not differ significantly between the diabetic and the control groups. Serum concentration of cystatin C was significantly higher in the diabetic group compared with the control group. The strengths of this study are the evaluation of reliability and sensivity in comparison with a 'routine test of GFR'. The methodology used allows an appropriate statistical comparison of reliability in contrast to most other previous evaluations of GFR.
This study was carried out to investigate the relative influence of food intake and menopause on the body composition and bone quality index of women in Wonju who were voluntary participants in a community nutrition program. The status of food intake was examined using a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire. A bioelectrical impedance analysis tool (Inbody 2.0) and SONOST 2000 were used for estimating body composition including criteria such as TWB (Total body water), SLM (Soft lean mass), LBM (Lean body mass), PBF (% body fat) and WHR (Waist hip ratio), and BQI (Bone quality index). 82% of the subjects were over the age of 40. The percentage of overweight subjects was 64.3% overall, and higher in the advanced age group while underweight was prevalent in younger subjects. Although only 8.6% of the total subjects skipped breakfast, this habit was more prevalent in subjects in their twenties and the underweight group. Variables, such as age, menstruation status, and breakfast eating habits were significant factors considered in relation to food intake from 7 food groups. Generally, older aged women ate more vegetables while the younger group consumed more simple sugars and lipids. The subjects who were underweight or skipped breakfast tended to drink higher amounts of soft drinks. With increasing age, BMI, PBF and WHR increased also, and TWB, SLM, LBM, and BQI decreased. According to correlation analysis, WHR has a positive correlation with PBF. BQI correlated with SLM and LBM positively, and with PBF and WHR negatively. Over 93.3% of the subjects over the age of 30 were assessed as having abdominal obesity. It was revealed that body composition was affected not only by age, obesity degree and menstruation status but by various food intake habits. Body composition including WHR and BQI had put many of the subjects' health in danger of metabolic disorders. Therefore, it is important to emphasize keeping in place some helpful habits such as eating regularly, having a proper diet which includes many vegetables, and continued milk intake even after menopause to insure women's good health.
The health-related habits, dietary behaviors and health status as well as the relationships between the health-related habits and dietary behaviors and the health status were investigated in the subjects of the middle aged(20 male and 50 female with the average age of 56.4$\pm$6.1) and the elderly(15 male and 15 female with the average of 68.4$\pm$3.6) living in Chonju. The survey included the personal interview using questionnaires, anthropometric measurement and biochemical tests in December, 1998. The breakfast irregularity was shown in 5.7% of male and 10.8% of female. The consumption of generally lightly salted foods was practiced in half of the subjects. The prevalence of smoking and alcohol drinking were shown in 20% and 31.4% of male group respectively. As judged by their body mass indices(BMI), none of the subjects was belong to the obesity group. However, the considerable degree of overweight was found in female subjects. The upper-body obesity was more prevalent in female compared to male group. The percentages of the anemic subjects as judged by WHO hemoglobin level were found to be relatively high specially for female(26.2%). The blood pressure, serum total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol determination showed that the middle aged males and the elderly females tend to have higher levels compared to the different age bracket subjects from two-way ANOVA. Therefore, it can be assumed that the middle aged males and the elderly females are under the greater risk than the other groups. The analysis of the relationships between health-related habits and dietary behavior, and the health status showed that the regularity of breakfast, the consumption of lightly salted foods, the frequency of exercise and the alcohol drinking pattern influenced the city dwellers and the risk-related health habits as well as dietary behavior.
Objectives: This study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of Pharbitidis Semen (PS) on obesity using 3T3-L1 cells and high-fat-diet rats. Methods: After the administration of PS at a concentration of 0.125, 0.25, and 0.50 mg/ml in 3T3-L1 cells, the degree of differentiation of adipocytes was measured by Oil Red O staining. The experimental animals were divided into five groups in vivo. Normal group: diet-fed normal group (Normal), Control group (Control): high-fat-diet (HFD)-fed, Positive control group (PC): HFD+Contrave 200 mg/kg, PS_Low group: HFD+PS 250 mg/kg group, PS_High group: HFD+PS 500 mg/kg. Results: The total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-cholesterol), and triglycerides (TG) content of the PS medication groups were significantly lower than those of the control group. In addition, high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-cholesterol) tended to increase, and free fatty acid, total lipid, and phospholipid tended to decrease, but the decrease was not statistically significant. The administration of PS inhibited the differentiation of 3T3-L1 adipocytes, and a statistically significant difference was found in the group administered with 0.125 mg/ml. The mRNA expression of $PPAR-{\gamma}$ and leptin, which are involved in the differentiation of adipocytes, was observed using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The expressions of $PPAR-{\gamma}$ and leptin significantly decreased in comparison with the control and the positive control.

This study was performed to offer the fundamental data for preventing and controlling the cardiovascular diseases of rural community women. The number of 168 women aged 40 to 50s who live in Kumsan-gun, Chungnam were selected for analysis after medical examination by a Kumsan-gun health center during the period of November to December in 1996. Total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C), blood pressure(BP), degree of obesity(BMI) and atherosclerosis index(AI) were measured and relation between these physical measurements to serum lipid levels were studied. The results were as follows; 1. Mean TC level, TG level, BP, BMI and AI were significantly increased with advancing age. 2. Mean TC level, TG level, BMI and AI of borderline BP group and hypertension group were significantly increased than those of normal BP group. 3. Mean TC level, TG level and AI of obesity group were significantly increased than those of normal BMI group. 4. Simple correlation analysis showed that the positive correlation between TC, TG, BP, BMI and AI, but the level of HDL-C was negative correlation with TG and AI. 5. In multiple regression analysis taking HDL-C level as the dependent variable and TG, TC, BP, BMI, Age AI as the independent variable, AI, TG, BMI, TC were significantly related to HDL-C.
Purpose: The prevalence of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is increasing with the increasing prevalence of childhood obesity. Although NASH has a high risk of progression to liver fibrosis and cirrhosis, few studies have reported noninvasive markers for predicting hepatic fibrosis in children. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the diagnostic accuracies of serologic biomarkers and scoring systems for hepatic fibrosis in obese children with NASH. Methods: A total of 96 children were diagnosed with NASH based on liver biopsy findings and divided into two groups according to the degree of liver fibrosis: mild (stage 0-1) or advanced (stage 2-4). Clinical and laboratory parameters and serum levels of hyaluronic acid and type IV collagen were measured. The aspartate aminotransferase/platelet ratio index (APRI) and fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) score were calculated. Results: Among the noninvasive markers, only serum type IV collagen level and FIB-4 were significantly different between the two groups. The area under the receiver operating curve of each biomarker and scoring system was 0.80 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.70-0.90) for type IV collagen at an optimal cutoff of 148 ng/mL (sensitivity 69.8%, specificity 84.6%), followed by 0.69 (95% CI: 0.57-0.83) for APRI, 0.68 (95% CI: 0.56-0.80) for FIB-4, and 0.65 (95% CI: 0.53-0.77) for hyaluronic acid. Conclusion: Type IV collagen as a single noninvasive serologic biomarker for hepatic fibrosis and FIB-4 as a hepatic fibrosis score are beneficial in predicting advanced hepatic fibrosis and determining proper diagnosis and treatment strategies before fibrosis progresses in obese children with NASH.

Background Abdominoplasty with abdominal plication increases intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) and has been previously associated with limited diaphragmatic excursion and respiratory dysfunctions. Many factors found in abdominoplasties and among postbariatric patients predispose them to a higher occurrence. This study aims to evaluate the impact of abdominal plication among postbariatric patients, assess whether the plication increases their IAP, and analyze how these IAP correlate to their postoperative outcome. Methods This prospective study was performed on all patients who underwent circumferential Fleur-De-Lis abdominoplasty. For this intended study, the IAP was measured by an intravesical minimally invasive approach in three stages: after the initiation of general anesthesia, after a 10-cm abdominal wall plication and skin closure, and 24 hours after the procedure. Results We included 46 patients, of which 41 were female and 5 were male. Before the bariatric procedure, these patients had an average maximum weight of 121.4 kg and an average maximum body mass index of 45.78 kg/m2; 7 were grade I obese patients, 10 were grade II, and 29 were grade III. Only three patients were operated on with a gastric sleeve and 43 with gastric bypass. We presented six patients with transitory intra-abdominal hypertension in the first 24 hours, all of them from the grade I obesity group, the highest presented was 14.3 mm Hg. We presented 15% (7/46) of complication rates, which were only four seroma and five dehiscence; two patients presented both seroma and wound dehiscence. Conclusion Performing a 10-cm abdominal wall plication or greater represents a higher risk for intra-abdominal hypertension, slower general recovery, and possibly higher complication rate in patients who presented a lower degree of obesity (grade I) at the moment of the bariatric surgery.

It is important to conduct an anthropometric study to develop garment patterns to accommodate the changes found in the body size and type of men in their 30s, to effectively address fit dissatisfaction. Thus, this study aims to explore changes in the lower body sizes and body types of men in their 30s, and provide basic measurements for designing pants patterns. For this purpose, key anthropometric dimensions for the lower body of men in their 30s, which were acquired by the 6th (2010) and 7th (2015) survey conducted by Size Korea, were analyzed using SPSS 24.0 for Windows. Independent sample t-tests were conducted on major lower body sizes to track changes over time. Factor and cluster analyses were used to classify lower body types. From the comparison of the 6th (2010) and 7th (2015) surveys, it was found that the overall lower body size of men in their 30s were increasing in the height-related aspects, circumference, thickness, and width-as well as body weight and BMI. The five factors were derived to determine the typical lower body types of men in their 30s and the body types were classified into three categories through cluster analysis: (1) those with the largest body size, body volume, and obesity, (2) those with smallest body size, lower body volume, and obesity degree, visually the most skinny type, (3) those with BMI and weight that are the smallest, like Type 2, but the main circumference of the lower body is lower. In order to visually look at the statistical analysis, results were presented by producing a avatar based on the main lower body values.

The aim of this study was to provide basic programs for addressing the growing problem of adolescent obesity by considering the effects of a music rope skipping-based exercise program to increase the student athletic ability on obesity, adiponectin and abdominal fat. The subjects were 23 male middle school students, 14-year-old to 16 years old, with a BMI of more than $25kg/m^2$ (experimental group 11, control group 12), who lack basic physical fitness physical health related fitness. The subjects received a 12 weeks music rope skipping exercise program. The program was carried out before and after the 12 weeks group music rope skipping exercise program. The adiponectin and abdominal fat measurements were compared with the degree of improvement. The BMI and adiponectin levels decreased significantly after the program. In addition, the visceral fat, subcutaneous adipose fat and total abdominal fat in summer decreased significantly.
