In this study, we measured total flavonoids after extracting the total flavonoids from lemongrass which is known to have a high content of antioxidant ingredients when using microwave energy. Also, optimal extraction conditions of active ingredients using central composite design-response surface methodology (CCD-RSM) were presented. Both ultrapure water and alcohol were used as extraction solvents and the volume ratio of ethanol/ultrapure water, microwave irradiation time, and microwave irradiation power were set as independence variables. And the extraction yield and total flavonoids were measured. The optimal extraction conditions using CCD-RSM were the volume ratio of ethanol/ultrapure water = 56.3 vol.%, the microwave irradiation time = 6.1 min, and the microwave irradiation power = 574.6 W. We could also obtain expected results of yield = 17.2 wt.% and total flavonoids = 44.7 ㎍ QE/mL dw under the optimum conditions. The comprehensive satisfaction degree of this formula was 0.8562. The P-value was calculated for the yield of 0.037 and the total flavonoids content of 0.002. The average error from actual experiments established for the verification of conclusions was lower than 2.5%. Therefore, a high favorable level could be obtained when the CCD-RSM was applied to the optimization of extraction process.
Epoxy resin has the disadvantage of being easily destroyed by instantaneous impact due to its high crosslinking density despite its high glass transition temperature (Tg) and excellent properties. To compensate for this, in this study, polyol was synthesized by ring opening polymerization of propylene glycol (PPG) diamine, Jeffamine D 2000 and propylene carbonate, and urethane modified epoxy was synthesized using this. The properties of the synthesized urethane modified epoxy were confirmed by FT-IR, H-NMR. To confirm the degree of improvement in impact resistance as an adhesive, a urethane modified epoxy adhesive was prepared by mixing a digylcidyl ether bisphenol A (DGEBA) with curing agent and curing accelerator. Properties test of urethane modified epoxy were shear strength, tensile strength and impact strength. As a result, excellent results were obtained in all test when the ratio of DGEBA : urethane modified epoxy was 8:2.
This research was performed to investigate the effect of hydrogen peroxide on the stain removal in japanese hackberry. Response surface method (RSM) was used to optimize the bleaching conditions such as reaction temperature, reaction time and the concentration of hydrogen peroxide. Fifteen different bleaching conditions were selected according to $2^3$ factorial central composite design (CCD). The bleaching effect were evaluated by lightness differences of wood surface before and after the bleaching. The RSM model was determined and its $R^2$ values were 0.93, showing it well represented the bleaching effect. The most affecting factor on the stain removal was the concentration of hydrogen peroxide, followed by reaction time and reaction temperature. Second degree of concentration was proved to have an effect on the bleaching. Bleaching rates above 3% concentrations of hydrogen peroxide were tended to be slightly decreased, and low bleaching effect was found at $20^{\circ}C$. The determined RSM model may offer very practical ways to obtain the desired levels of bleaching because it offers multiple solutions.
Maleic anhydride (MAH) grafted polypropylenes (PP) (MAH-g-PP) were prepared by changing MAH content and styrene monomer (SM)/MAH mole ratio with different type PP, using a twin screw extruder. The types of PP were isotatic PP (iPP), block PP (bPP), and random PP (rPP) and dicumyl peroxide (DCP) was used as an initiator. The graft degree of MAH was confirmed by the existence of carbonyl group (C=O) stretching peak at $3100cm^{-1}$ of FTIR spectrum. Thermal properties of MAH-g-PP and PP/MAH-g-PP/pulp composites were investigated by DSC and TGA. There was no district change in thermal properties of PP/MAH-g-PP/pulp composites. Based on tensile properties and SEM pictures for fractured surface of PP/MAH-g-PP/pulp composites, MAH-g-rPP was the best as the compatibilizer and optimum formulation was MAH content of 1.0 wt%, SM/MAH mole ratio of 1.0, and melt index (MI) of 25 g/10 min. The rheological properties of the composites were investigated by a dynamic rheometer. The complex viscosity, shear thinning effect, and water uptake incresed with pulp content.

The consumer awareness concerning coffee beverages has increased in Korea. The objective of this study was to optimize the roasting conditions of coffee bean for consumer's attribute. The optimal roasting conditions for Colombian coffee beans were analyzed by using a central composite design with a quadratic polynomial model by response surface methodology (RSM). The experimental conditions for coffee bean roasting were $194.82^{\circ}C{\sim}250.00^{\circ}C$ and 7.93~22.07 minutes. The responses of sensory attributes. physicochemical and physical properties were analyzed with RSM. The width. length and height of green beans increased when the beans were roasted. The higher degree of roasting gave the higher pH and solid contents but the lower total acidity and total phenolic compounds. In sensory tests, the roasting temperature and time had a significant effect on the flavor score. The optimum roasting condition of Colombian coffee bean predicted for maximizing the length, width, solid contents, total phenolic compounds and flavor score were 20 minutes at $225^{\circ}C$ by RSM.
Commonly-used polymers are manufactured as versatile forms. Furthermore, continuous polymer fibers are recently manufactured using nylon or aramid fiber. One of common epoxy was also used to make polymer fibers. Bisphenol-A type was used as base epoxy whereas amine and anhydride were used as hardeners. Epoxy fibers was cured by stepping up the temperature to maintain the shape of epoxy fiber. Surface energy was measured to confirm the degree of interfacial adhesion by modified static contact angle method. After mechanical properties were measured via fiber tensile test, the evaluation of fiber fracture was proceeded. Tensile strength of epoxy fiber using amine type hardener was higher as 138 MPa than anhydride case as 70 MPa. Fractured surface exhibited different failure patterns at the cross-section.
In this work the effect of surface treated SiC on thermal stability and mechanical interfacial properties of carbon fiber/epoxy resin composites. The surface properties of the SiC were determined by acid/base values and contact angles. The thermal stabilities of carbon fiber/epoxy resin composites were investigated by TGA. The mechanical interfacial properties of the composites were studied in ILSS, critical stress intensity factor ($\textrm{K}_{IC}$), and critical strain energy release rate($\textrm{G}_{IC}$) measurements. As a result, the acidically treated SiC(A-SiC) had higher acid value than untreated SiC(V-SiC) or basically treated SiC(B-SiC). According to the contact angle measurements, it was observed that chemical treatments led to an increase of surface free energy of the SiC surfaces, mainly due to the increase of the specific(polar) component. The mechanical interfacial properties of the composites including ILSS, $\textrm{K}_{IC}$, and $\textrm{G}_{IC}$ had been improved in the specimens treated by chemical solutions. These results were explained that good wetting played an important role in improving the degree of adhesion at interfaces between SiC and epoxy resin matrix.
As a new method to predict the degree of dispersion in carbon nanocomposites, the electrical resistance (ER) method has been evaluated. After CNT epoxy resin was dropped on CF tow, the change in electrical resistance of carbon fiber tow was measured to evaluate dispersion condition in CNT epoxy resin. Good dispersion of CNTs in carbon nanocomposite exhibited low change in ER due to wetted resin penetrated on CF tow. However, because CNT network was formed among CFs, non-uniform dispersion occurred due to nanoparticle filtering effect by CF tow. The change in ER for poor dispersion exhibited large ER signal change. The change in ER was used for the dispersion evaluation of CNT epoxy resin. Correlation between interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) and dispersion condition by ER method was established. Good CNT dispersion in nanocomposites led to good interfacial properties of fiberreinforced nanocomposites.
Interfacial adhesion between fiber and resin are related to composites performance, so it is very important to evaluate them accurately. In this study, the interfacial properties of microdroplets under fatigue loading conditions were evaluated. The mechanical properties and interfacial adhesion of epoxy resin with dopamine were studied. Tensile specimens were prepared to evaluate mechanical properties and epoxy microdroplets specimens were used for the evaluation of interfacial adhesion. In addition, in the microdroplet fatigue test, the same diameter of the microdroplet was used and the experiment was performed under the same conditions. As a result, it was confirmed that mechanical and interfacial properties were improved when dopamine was applied to epoxy resin through tensile and microdroplet experiments. It is considered that dopamine improves the degree of curing of the epoxy resin and imparts hydroxyl groups to the epoxy resin to increase the mechanical properties and the interfacial adhesion between the glass fibers.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the resistance to degradation and to compare the wear resistance characteristics of four esthetic restorative materials in an alkaline solution(0.1N NaOH). The brands studied were MetafilCX(Sun medical, Japan) Solitaire 2(Heraeus Kulzer, USA), Composan LCM(Promedica, Germany), DenFil(Vericom, Korea). The results were as follows: 1. The mass loss of each brand was 0.74~7.94% and highest value in Metafil($7.94{\pm}0.39%$). 2. The sequence of the degree of degradation layer depth was in descending order by Metafil, Solitaire 2, DenFil, Composan LCM. There were significant differences between Metafil and the others(p<0.05). 3. The sequence of the Si loss was in descending order by Metafil, Solitaire 2, Composan LCM, DenFil. There were significant differences among the materials(p<0.05). 4. On SEM, destruction of bonding between matrix and filler and on CLSM, the depth of degradation layer of specimen surface was observed. 5. The sequence of maximum wear depth was in descending order by Metafil, Solitaire 2, Composan LCM and DenFil. There were significant differences among the materials(p<0.05). 6. The correlation coefficient between Si loss and degradation layer depth (r=0.491, p<0.05) and Vicker's hardness number and maximum wear depth (r=-0.942, p<0.05) were relatively high. These results indicate that hydrolytic degradation and wear may consider as a evaluation factors of composite resins.
