  • A fighter performing a reconnaissance mission is equipped with a pod that drives optical/infrared sensors for acquiring and identifying target information on the lower part of the fuselage. Due to the nature of the reconnaissance mission, the fighter performs high speed evasive maneuvers, and the resulting load should be considered importantly for the development of the pod. This paper concerns a numerical investigation into the inertial and aerodynamic loads of the airborne pod of high performance aircrafts. For the aerodynamic load analysis, the pylon and pod shapes are added to the fighter 3D model, and the commercial software was used for static and dynamic analysis. Considering the practical mission conditions, the common/extreme conditions were established respectively in the static and dynamic situations of pods and the driving torque could be tripled under dynamic conditions. In the analysis of inertia load, a 3-DOF model considering roll and turning maneuvers was derived by the Lagrangian method, and then the numerical integration method was applied to the analysis. As a results, it was conformed that the inertia load was generally induced at a low level compared to the aerodynamic load, but depending on the unbalance mass condition of the pod, the inertia load cannot be negligible.

  • The trade-off between morphology and physical function may vary according to ecological traits. Taking a quantitative approach, we attempted to analyze the differences in the skeletal shape of the lower body and limbs in relation to the ecological traits of four anuran species (Dryophytes japonicus, Glandirana rugosa, Pelophylax nigromaculatus, and Lithobates catesbeianus) occurring in South Korea. Body size, locomotor mode, microhabitat, trophic positions, and predator defense mechanisms were selected for the ecological traits of the anurans. The pelvis, ilium, and urostyle, which are associated with locomotor performance, were selected for the skeletal shape of the lower body. The ratio of limbs, which is related to locomotor mode and microhabitat, was confirmed by analyzing the skeletons of the forelimbs (radio-ulnar and humerus) and hindlimbs (femur and tibiofibular). Both landmark-based geometric morphometrics and traditional methods were used for skeletal shape comparison. The skeletal shape of the lower body was completely different among the four species, whereas the ratio of the limbs was only different in D. japonicus. The skeletal shape of the lower body may be related to body mass and predator defense mechanisms, whereas the ratio of the limbs was related to the locomotor mode and microhabitat. Quantifying these morphological differences among various species can help elucidate the mechanisms of behavioral and morphological changes in response to ecological effects.

  • The MATS(Missile Assembly Test Set) is manufactured and used to check the function of the missile during the period of development for the guided missile system, and the requirements for power and communication are managed for equipment production. The MATS developer implements software according to the proposed communication standard to guarantee the reliability of the data that communicates with the guided missile. The test bed is built and self-performance evaluation is performed after implementation. And the verification process is performed using the standard equipment. The characteristics of periodic delay for data transmission must be reflected when building a test bed. This paper describes a test bed construction method for data processing with periodic delay. Also This paper compares and evaluates the performance by changing the previously designed algorithm.

  • A polymer-based mechanical low-pass filter(m-LPF) for high-g accelerometers makes it possible to remove high-frequency transient noises from acceleration signals, thus ensuring repeatable and reliable measurement on high-g acceleration. We establish a prediction model for performance of m-LPF by combining a fundamental vibration model with the fractional derivative standard linear solid(FD SLS) model describing the storage modulus and loss modulus of polymers. Here, the FD SLS model is modified to consider the effect of m-LPF shape factor (i.e., thickness) on storage modulus and loss modulus. The prediction accuracy is verified by comparing the displacement transmissibility(or cut-off frequency) estimated using our model with that measured from 3 kinds of polymers(polysulfide rubber(PSR), silicone rubber(SR), and polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)). Our findings will contribute a significant growth of m-LPF for high-g accelerometers.

  • This paper proposes a method to improve the performance of ship identification through lofargram analysis of ship noise by applying the Hough Transform to a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model. When processing the signals received by a passive sonar, the time-frequency domain representation known as lofargram is generated. The machinery noise radiated by ships appears as tonal signals on the lofargram, and the class of the ship can be specified by analyzing it. However, analyzing lofargram is a specialized and time-consuming task performed by well-trained analysts. Additionally, the analysis for target identification is very challenging because the lofargram also displays various background noises due to the characteristics of the underwater environment. To address this issue, the Hough Transform is applied to the lofargram to add lines, thereby emphasizing the tonal signals. As a result of identification using CNN models on both the original lofargrams and the lofargrams with Hough transform, it is shown that the application of the Hough transform improves lofargram identification performance, as indicated by increased accuracy and macro F1 scores for three different CNN models.

  • Purpose: The main function of INS (Inertial Navigation System) is to measure the position of an armed vehicle and its performance is confirmed through the positioning accuracy test of Korean Defense Standards (KDS). The current standards, however, do not provide clear test methods and the conditions for performing positioning accuracy tests. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to develop a new method for positioning accuracy test which would be effective. Methods: In this study, a new INS positioning accuracy test method is suggested based on the analysis of test data collected through a statistical experiment known as central composite design. For the positioning accuracy experiment of K105A1, a self-propelled artillery, two factors of driving velocity and driving distance are considered. Results: Based on the analysis of experimental data, a regression model for the positioning error is fitted and the positioning accuracy test of INS is so developed to maximize the positioning error. The standard proximity rate is used as an additional test criterion to evaluate the performance level of INS. Conclusion: The proposed new positioning accuracy test for INS has the advantage of finding the nonconforming items effectively. It is also expected to be utilized for the other similar INS positioning accuracy tests.

  • Recently, each country is competitively investing huge amounts of money in space development, and space risks such as tens of thousands of satellites, spy satellites, and space debris are increasing. Although there are several assets for monitoring space, interest is growing in the detection of space objects using radar, which is useful for constant alert and wide-area surveillance. While the existing radar system was operated to detect aircraft, ships, and missiles within hundreds of kilometers, radar to detect space objects must be expanded to thousands of kilometers. In this case, the size of data that impairs signal processing increases, which can lead to a decrease in radar detection performance. In this paper, we present a method of speeding up signal processing using GPU when detecting space objects, which are long-distance targets, and the results of comparing performance compared to existing CPUs.

  • Recently, the surface temperature in the seas around Korea has been continuously rising. This temperature rise causes changes in fishery resources and affects leisure activities such as fishing. In particular, high temperatures lead to the occurrence of red tides, causing severe damage to ocean industries such as aquaculture. Meanwhile, changes in sea temperature are closely related to military operation to detect submarines. This is because the degree of diffraction, refraction, or reflection of sound waves used to detect submarines varies depending on the ocean mixed layer. Currently, research on the prediction of changes in sea water temperature is being actively conducted. However, existing research is focused on predicting only the surface temperature of the ocean, so it is difficult to identify fishery resources according to depth and apply them to military operations such as submarine detection. Therefore, in this study, we predicted the temperature of the ocean mixed layer at a depth of 38m by using temperature data for each water depth in the upper mixed layer and meteorological data such as temperature, atmospheric pressure, and sunlight that are related to the surface temperature. The data used are meteorological data and sea temperature data by water depth observed from 2016 to 2020 at the IEODO Ocean Research Station. In order to increase the accuracy and efficiency of prediction, LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory), which is known to be suitable for time series data among deep learning techniques, was used. As a result of the experiment, in the daily prediction, the RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) of the model using temperature, atmospheric pressure, and sunlight data together was 0.473. On the other hand, the RMSE of the model using only the surface temperature was 0.631. These results confirm that the model using meteorological data together shows better performance in predicting the temperature of the upper ocean mixed layer.

  • This paper describes the method of hull shape optimization to improve the resistance performance of planing hulls when a reference hull shape and its principal dimensions are given. First, the planing hull of precedent research is adopted as the reference hull and an optimization problem is formulated by defining hull shape parameters. The search space of this research is discretized for computing cost and DPSO(Discrete binary version of Particle Swarm Optimization) method is used to solve the optimization problem. As the result of optimization, the decrease of resistance is confirmed from the comparison between the reference hull's and the modified hull's planing performance from computational results.
