  • In this paper, the integration of the firing test stages at the acceptance test of the propelling charge has been studied using statistical analysis on the basis of the test data of K676 and K677 propelling charge for K9 self propelled howitzer. Acceptance test of K676 / K677 propelling charge consists of 3 stages and each stage is charge assessment test, charge uniformity test and charge proving ground test. Many of rounds are fired and much money is spent to prove the charge performance at each stage. The result of t-test shows that there is no difference between charge uniformity and charge proving ground test stage of K676 and K677 propelling charge.

  • Nowadays, it is required to apply low observable technology to weapon systems in operation or under development. Radar Cross Section(RCS) is a measure of the scattered power in an given direction when a target is illuminated by an incident wave and used as a parameter to estimate the low observable performance of weapon system. RCS of a target can be calculated by various numerical methods. However, measurement is also needed to estimate RCS of a complex target because it is difficult to estimate theoretically. To acquire reliable measurement results, an analysis of measurement uncertainty is essential. In this paper, error components and uncertainties of near-field RCS measurement system which was constructed in ASTEC(Aerospace System Test & Evaluation Center) were analyzed based on the IEEE recommended practice for radar cross-section test procedures(IEEE Std. 1502-2007) which describes the uncertainty of RCS measurement and unique error components of this near-field measurement system were also identified.

  • Kalman filtering (KF) is hard to be applied to the SINS (Strap-down Inertial Navigation System)/RDSS (Radio Determination Satellite Service) integrated navigation system directly because the time delay of RDSS positioning in active mode is random. BP (Back-Propagation) Neuron computing as a powerful technology of Artificial Neural Network (ANN), is appropriate to solve nonlinear problems such as the random time delay of RDSS without prior knowledge about the mathematical process involved. The new algorithm betakes a BP neural network (BPNN) and velocity feedback to aid KF in order to overcome the time delay of RDSS positioning. Once the BP neural network was trained and converged, the new approach will work well for SINS/RDSS integrated navigation. Dynamic vehicle experiments were performed to evaluate the performance of the system. The experiment results demonstrate that the horizontal positioning accuracy of the new approach is 40.62 m (1 ${\sigma}$), which is better than velocity-feedback-based KF. The experimental results also show that the horizontal positioning error of the navigation system is almost linear to the positioning interval of RDSS within 5 minutes. The approach and its anti-jamming analysis will be helpful to the applications of SINS/RDSS integrated systems.

  • SAR signal processing technique has been considered a crucial technical part in order to generate an image from radar signal data and ADD (Agency for Defense Development) has focused on this area for years to develope our own SAR Processor for various SAR systems (Radarsat, ERS, KOMSAR). In this paper, we investigated major techniques related to generation of SAR images and developed ASPR (ADD SAR Processor for Radarsat) practically using the commercial Radarsat-1 radar signal data (RAW). We demonstrated the performance of the ASPR in comparison with the image generated by MDA and Vexcel's SAR Processor (FOCUS).

  • In wireless environments, wideband receivers are used in a communication intelligent system to detect unknown signals and obtain azimuth information. To design a wideband receiver that performs multiple signal detection and direction finding simultaneously, it is necessary to consider a reception structure composed of multiple channels. In this paper, we propose a wideband multi-channel receiver for direction finding of unknown wideband communication signals including frequency hopping signals. A signal processing method for detecting received signals and estimating azimuth information is presented, and components of the manufactured wideband receiver are described. In addition, test results of the signal detection performance by mounting the proposed wideband multi-channel receiver on the flight system are included.

  • The development of an underwater rocket propulsion system was described in this paper. Throttle able liquid propellant and hybrid rocket propulsion systems were selected for underwater propulsion. A subscale liquid rocket combustion chamber and it's portable stand were developed and their applicability was examined. 1.5-ton.f and 1.8-ton.f hybrid rockets were developed for underwater applications. The test results indicated that the 18-ton.f hybrid rocket fully complies to the performance and underwater cruise stability requirements; thus, its development was concluded to be successfully complete.

  • Purpose: Although the development of bulletproof helmets continues to be carried out, little has been improved in testing methods. Therefore, in this study, we studied the improvement of the test method of the domestic bulletproof helmet. Methods: The causes of head damage in the battlefield and the trends of bulletproof helmet development in developed countries were analyzed. In addition, improvements were derived by comparing the test methods of bulletproof helmet in Korea and the United States. Results: The results of the improvement by comparing the test methods of bulletproof helmet in Korea and the United States are as follows First, it is an addition to the scope of environmental treatment. Second, it is an addition to the level of protection. Third, the addition of the level of protection by impact. Conclusion: This study considered testing methods to prevent head injuries to shocks that cannot be identified by conventional methods. In addition, it considered testing methods for various threats by improving protection performance to advanced countries' levels.

  • The regulatory periodic inspection program (PSI) conducted at every overhaul period is the most important process for confirming the safety of nuclear power plants. The PSI for operating nuclear power plants in Korea mainly consist of component level performance check that had been developed based on deterministic approach putting the same degree of importance to all the inspection items. This inspection methodology is likely to be effective for preoperational inspection. However, once the plant is put into service, the PSI must be focused on whether to minimize the risk of accident using defense-in-depth concept and risk insight. The incorporation of defense-in-depth concept and risk insight into the deterministic based safety inspection has not been well studied so far. In this study, two track approaches are proposed to make sure that core damage be avoided: one is to secure success path and the other to block the failure path in a specific event tree of PSA. The investigation shows how to select safety important components and how to set up inspection group to ensure that core damage would not occur for a given initiating event, which results in strengthening defense-in-depth level 3.

  • Recently, infrared object detection(IOD) has been extensively studied due to the rapid growth of deep neural networks(DNN). Adversarial attacks using imperceptible perturbation can dramatically deteriorate the performance of DNN. However, most adversarial attack works are focused on visible image recognition(VIR), and there are few methods for IOD. We propose deep learning-based adversarial attacks for IOD by expanding several state-of-the-art adversarial attacks for VIR. We effectively validate our claim through comprehensive experiments on two challenging IOD datasets, including FLIR and MSOD.

  • This paper addresses the maintenance optimization problem in multi-component systems in which parts are connected in series, carrying out several missions interspersed with scheduled finite breaks. Due to limited time or resources, maintenance actions can be only carried out on a limited set of components. The decision maker then has to decide which components to maintain to ensure a pre-specified performance level during next mission. Most of the existing models in the literature usually assume only one system and enough spare parts. However, there are situations in which maintenance is required for multiple systems of the same type. To overcome this restrictive assumption, this study optimizes the maintenance problem considering the lack of repair parts and cannibalism for many identical systems. This study presents two optimization models with different objectives to solve the problem and analyzes the results so that the decision maker can decide. The results of this study are expected to be used for the maintenance of multiple systems of the same type, such as swarm drones.
