  • Using the Monte Carlo simulation, a study on the lion-proportionality of the prototype phoswich detector with $2'{\times}2'$ CSI(Tl) and plastic scintillator, which was made by KAERI, has been carried. The defector response functions (DRFs) calculated by simulations were compared with the experimental measurement on the $^{137}Cs\;and\;^{60}Co$. To precisely simulate the DRF for the phoswich, the CSI(Tl) non-proportionality was calculated using the electron response and the simplified electron cascade sequence for treating the photoelectric absorption event. The resulting DRFs of $^{137}Cs\;and\;^{60}Co$ sources obtained by simulations were compared with experiments for verification. For $^{137}Cs$, gamma-ray responses simulated by MCNP5 are generally good agreement with the measured ones. But the DRF of $^{60}Co$ does not match well with the results of experiment in the energy region below second peak due to the coincidence effect of two gamma-rays (1.17 MeV and 1.33 MeV). Through the analysis of the non-proportionality of CsI(Tl) in the prototype phoswich, the improved DRFs considering non-proportionality were produced and the simulation results were verified using the experimental measurements. However, to more precisely reproduce the DRF for the phoswich, further studies in relation to the electron channeling effect and the Doppler broadening effect of a scintillator are still needed as well as considering that effect of the transfer contribution.

  • The problem of social adaptation of North Korean defectors is becoming increasingly important, as its core significance shifted from welfare to the preparatory stage of United Korea. Hence, this research tries to comprehend the 'factors that enhance their social adaptation'. For this end, by theoretically considering, support resources centered around economic goals did indeed increase the employment rate, but the 'premature social adaptation' did not help them form their own social identity. This led the employment to become another form of social failure and difficulty in social adaptation. Furthermore, by going through interview, the importance of 'social dependence' is emphasized and it was shown that it was 'relationship' that affects both social adaptation and difficulty in social adaptation. Accordingly, this research suggests that it is vital to make a communicative environment in which South and North Korean citizens can freely communicate. This will not only lead to enhancement of social adaptation to South Korean society, unsolvable by economic independence, but it will also lead to more effective 'economic support' policies.

  • This study explores how social media influences individual's social development and well-being. Social media is discussed as an effective tool when individuals lacking social and psychological resources are trying to expand their social networks. This study focuses on the social media use of North Korean defectors, who, in general, have closed social media networks in the South Korean society. This study tries to analyze empirically the effect of social media use on North Korean defectors' satisfaction with our society. In particular, this study focuses on how the use of social media influences satisfaction with their life in South Korea at different levels of their emotional states. This study explores that the relationship between social media and satisfaction with their life in South Korea varies based upon the degree of self-esteem and anxiety. This study expects that social media might provide greater benefits for those who are experiencing low self-esteem and high anxiety. In addition, this study conducts the same analysis for the general public and then compares its results with the survey on North Korean defectors. According to the results of North Korean defectors' survey, the impact of social media use on satisfaction with their life in South Korea was greater for those with high anxiety than for those with low anxiety. Meanwhile, the impact was greater for those with high self-esteem than for those with low self-esteem.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the women's experiences of negative perception, discrimination and 'ethnicized stigma' in South Korea. For this purpose, data were collected through in-depth interviews from 8 women escaped from North Korea and 4 professionals. The findings of this study are as follows: Almost of them experienced negative perception and discrimination caused by language, pronunciation intonation, and differences of ways to express their emotions. And they experienced the disapproval as the native perception and confusion of ethnic identity. Several participants in this study try to build or organize their communities to give emotional and instrumental support for them. However, in these processes, they experience emotional conflicts and crises feelings of disorganization of their communities because of they didn't have experience to involve communities, and didn't have ideas of membership and their roles. And they were learned to criticize with each other in North Korea. They worry about their families' safety in North Korea. For this reason, they can't have trustful personal relationships among Koreans including people escaped from North Korea in South Korea. They want to participate in Korean's community activities, and learn to adjust to everyday lives in South Korea. In conclusion, based upon the outcomes of this study, it is expected that any practical implications or solutions for North Korean defector's welfare would be suggested.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the structural relationship between parental attachment, behavior problem, and empathetic capabilities. For this study, the researcher chose the study participants among the North-Korean defector high school students who are currently attending high schools. The survey was conducted over the period from April 4 to June 10, 2020. A total of 257 questionnaires were used for this study. The data of this study were analyzed using SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0. The findings of this study were as follows; First, the parental attachment of the juvenile North Korean defectors had a negative impact on delinquency. Second, the parental attachment of the juvenile North Korean defectors had a positive impact on empathetic capabilities. Third, the empathetic capabilities of juvenile North Korean defectors had a negative impact on delinquency. Fourth, in the relationship between parental attachment and delinquency, the empathetic capability was shown to have a significant mediating effect. This study showed that, in the perspective of social welfare or psycho-therapy, it is necessary to develop various programs to enhance the empathetic capabilities of juvenile North Korean defectors while helping them form a healthy attachment to their parents in order to reduce their delinquency.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify trends and potential themes of research on consumption of children and adolescents for 20 years by analyzing keywords. The keywords of 869 studies on consumption of children and adolescents published in journals listed in Korean Citation Index were analyzed using text mining techniques. The most frequent keywords were found in the order of youth, youth consumers, consumer education, conspicuous consumption, consumption behavior, and character. As a result of analyzing the frequency of keywords by dividing into five-year periods, it was confirmed that the frequency of consumer education was significantly higher betwn 2006 and 2010. Research on ethical consumption has been active since 2011, and research has been conducted on various topics instead of without a prominent keyword during the most recent 5-year period. Looking at the keywords based on the TF-IDF, the keywords related to the environment and the Internet were the main keywords between 2001 and 2005. From 2006 to 2010, the TF-IDF values of media use, advertisement education, and Internet items were high. From 2011 to 2015, fair trade, green growth, green consumption, North Korean defector youths, social media, and from 2016 to 2020, text mining, sustainable development education, maker education, and the 2015 revised curriculum appeared as important themes. As a result of topic modeling, eight topics were derived: consumer education, mass media/peer culture, rational consumption, Hallyu/cultural industry, consumer competency, economic education, teaching and learning method, and eco-friendly/ethical consumption. As a result of network analysis, it was found that conspicuous consumption and consumer education are important topics in consumption research of children and adolescents.

  • This study is performed to understand and resolve psychologically the issue of North Korea-South Korea's cultural heterogeneity which is treated importantly in unification debates. We collected data from 181 North Korea Defectors through survey, and found out that the North Korea Defectors perceived cultural heterogeneity so much especially at the early settlement stage. However, this fact itself didn't give a serious suggestion, What is significant was how much South Korean cultural orientation they had as a coping strategy. When they coped with South Korean cultural orientation, they showed high level of self-efficacy, and furthermore they demonstrated high level of psychological adaptation. By the way, this psychological adaptation level was not significantly correlated with positive index such as life satisfaction, but correlated with negative index such as depression. That is, low self-efficacy group showed high level of depression and 43% of them could be classified as a depression-symptom group. Thus, we can conclude that it is rather helpful for the North Korean Defectors to have South Korean cultural orientation for overcoming North Korea-South Korea's cultural heterogeneity, and coping strategy is more important than cultural heterogeneity itself.

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate trends of science educational researches on underrepresented students by scrutinizing Korean science education research literatures. For this particular purpose, literatures on underrepresented students were extracted from both listed and candidate journals for KCI and theses from 1984 to February 2017, and analyzed criteria such as source, year of publication, design, method, and content of research. A total of 125 papers from journals and 147 theses were extracted. In these researches, 61%, 20%, 6% were about students with disability, underachievers, and North Korean defector students respectively. The ratio of the researches on other underrepresented students such as multicultural, low income families, students who are from rural areas, and other underrepresented students were less than 5%. According to the year of publication, it was found that the number of research papers on underrepresented students increased continuously by a single digit from 1984 by focusing on the students with disability and underachievers. After that, from around 2008, it showed a rapid increase and researches on underrepresented students carried out more than 20 times annually. With regards to research design, there were 58% quantitative, 28% qualitative and 14% hybrid research design. Through analysis of research methods, we found that 30% of experimental research, 22% of interpretive research, 20% of correlation analysis, and 14% of survey research. After going through the characteristics of the research contents by visualizing the relationship between the research groups and the keywords that were extracted, it was found that even though the science education researches on underrepresented students have various contents, there were no keywords that were researched continuously and intensively in this area. The structural relationship between the keywords and each research group on underrepresented students showed that 'academic achievement' is the keyword with the highest degree of mediateness and connectedness.

  • The purpose of this study was to improve satisfaction of university dormitory foodservice customers by analyzing the correlation between foodservice satisfaction and customer loyalty. The questionnaire was distributed to 510 students residing in a dormitory of a University located in Gyengsangbuk-do from 1st to 8th December, 2015. The average customer satisfaction score was 3.19/5.00. The category with the highest score was sanitation, followed by environment, food, reactivity, and menu. Male students showed significantly higher foodservice satisfaction score than females in terms of reactivity (P<0.01) category. Students living in the dormitory for over 2 years were significantly less satisfied with the dormitory foodservice in terms of menu (P<0.05) and reactivity (P<0.001) categories. The average customer loyalty score was 2.73/5.00. Scores for revisit intention, words-of-mouth intention, and intent not to switch were 2.80, 2.73, and 2.65, respectively. Revisit intention and words-of-mouth intention showed a significant (P<0.001) positive correlation with food, environment, menu, sanitation, and reactivity. Non-switching intention showed a significant (P<0.001) positive correlation with food, menu, and reactivity. After classifying customers into four groups according to customer satisfaction and loyalty, a comparison was carried out to determine satisfaction and loyalty by each customer stratum. In the "loyalist" group, satisfaction with sanitation and the advertise intention by revisit and words-of-mouth were significantly higher than in the other groups (P<0.001). In "defector" group, satisfaction with menu (P<0.001) and advertise intention by words-of-mouth (P<0.01) were significantly lower than in the other groups.
