  • The purpose of this paper is to establish a defect classification system for defects before inspection and to derive the pattern and characteristics of defects before inspection by examining about 3,110 defect items for 133 apartment buildings. The study analysis revealed a relatively high rate of defects before inspection that occurred in finishing work. Second, defects occurred such as cracking of external wall, which is a very important defect. However, defects before inspection were relatively rare on the external wall. Finally, defects before inspection occurred during waterproofing in the common area or garage. It is necessary to establish a reasonable basis or countermeasure to resolve differences between stakeholders as various issues may arise in the course of a dispute, as a result of identifying the details of defects within the top 20 of the defectives.

  • In recent years, the proportion of medium and small-sized apartments within the housing market has seen a noticeable increase, alongside a corresponding rise in disputes related to construction defects. Such disputes are most prevalent in the finishing works phase of construction, which not only are frequent in occurrence but also impose significant repair costs. Furthermore, there is a noticeable scarcity of research focused on the quality management of finishing work defects prior to the completion of construction. Addressing this issue necessitates a methodology capable of preemptively identifying defects by analyzing their frequency and associated costs across various defect types. Consequently, the aim of this study is to propose a risk assessment methodology by conducting an analysis of defect cases across 3,299 apartment units, considering aspects such as frequency and severity. The outcomes of this research endeavor are expected to offer practical management strategies to enhance the quality of apartment finishing works and serve as an academic foundation for the enhancement of construction management systems pertaining to apartment finishing works.

  • In this paper, we study a new estimation system for the prediction of steam generator tube defects. In the previous research works, defect size estimators were independently designed for each defect types in order to estimate the defect size. As a result, the structure of estimation system is rather complex and the estimation performance gets worse if the classification performance is degraded for some reason. This paper studies a new estimation system that does not require the classification of defect types. Although the previous works are expected to achieve much better estimation performance than the proposed system since it uses the estimator specialized in each defect, the performance difference is not so large. Therefore, it is expected that the proposed estimator can be effectively used for the case where the defect type classification is imperfect.

  • Due to the rapid development of semiconductor technology, the complexity of VLSI circuits has heavily increased. With the increased densities of integrated circuits, several different types of faults can occur Thus, testing such circuits is becoming a sever problem. Delay testing can detect system timing failures caused by delay faults. However, the conventional delay fault coverage in terms of the number of detected faults may not be an effective measure of delay testing because, unlike a stuck-at-faults, the impact of a delay fault is dependent on its delay defect size rather than on its existence. Thus, the effectiveness of delay testing is dependent on the propagation delay of the path to be tested, the delay defect size, and the system clock interval. This paper proposes a new delay defect fault coverage that considers both propagation delay of the path to be tested and additional delay defect size. And the relationship between delay defect fault coverage and defect level is analyzed.

  • Independent control of electronic and thermal transport behaviors is one of the most effective approaches to enhance the performance of thermoelectric materials. To address this, many researches on the relationship between defect structures and thermoelectric properties have been carried out since defects are intrinsic ingredients of polycrystalline materials. Recently, experimental results of simultaneously improved electronic and thermal transport properties have been reported via the formation of 0-dimensional point defects. Here, theoretical backgrounds to the engineering of electronic and thermal transport behaviors by the formation of point defects are discussed and related experimental considerations are also presented in order to provide a practical guide for the development of highperformance thermoelectric materials.

  • Background: Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) have been studied for bone repair because they have regenerative potential to differentiate into osteoblasts. The development of injectable and in situ three-dimensional (3D) scaffolds to proliferate and differentiate BMSCs and deliver BMP-2 is a crucial technology in BMSC-based tissue engineering. Methods: The proliferation of mouse BMSCs (mBMSCs) in collagen/poly-γ-glutamic acid (Col/γ-PGA) hydrogel was evaluated using LIVE/DEAD and acridine orange and propidium iodide assays. In vitro osteogenic differentiation and the gene expression level of Col/γ-PGA(mBMSC/BMP-2) were assessed by alizarin red S staining and quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction. The bone regeneration effect of Col/γ-PGA(mBMSC/BMP-2) was evaluated in a mouse calvarial bone defect model. The cranial bones of the mice were monitored by micro-computed tomography and histological analysis. Results: The developed Col/γ-PGA hydrogel showed low viscosity below ambient temperature, while it provided a high elastic modulus and viscous modulus at body temperature. After gelation, the Col/γ-PGA hydrogel showed a 3D and interconnected porous structure, which helped the effective proliferation of BMSCs with BMP-2. The Col/γ-PGA (mBMSC/BMP-2) expressed more osteogenic genes and showed effective orthotopic bone formation in a mouse model with a critical-sized bone defect in only 3-4 weeks. Conclusion: The Col/γ-PGA(mBMSC/BMP-2) hydrogel was suggested to be a promising platform by combining collagen as a major component of the extracellular matrix and γ-PGA as a viscosity reducer for easy handling at room temperature in BMSC-based bone tissue engineering scaffolds.

  • The formation degree of sustain (ITO pattern) decides quality of PDP (Plasma Display Panel). For this reason, it makes efforts in searching defects more than 30 un as 100%. Now, the existing inspection is dependent upon naked eye or microscope in off-line PDP manufacturing process. In this study developed prototype inspection system of PDP 170 glass is based on line-scan mechanism. Developed system creates information that detects and sorts kinds of defect automatically. Designed inspection technology adopts multi-vision method by slip-beam formation for the minimum of inspection time and detection algorithm is embodied in detection ability of developed system. Designed algorithm had to make good use of kernel matrix that draws up an approach to geometry. A characteristic of defects, as pin hole, substance, protrusion, are extracted from blob analysis method. Defects, as open, short, spots and et al, are distinguished by line type inspection algorithm. In experiment, we could have ensured ability of inspection that can be detected with reliability of up to 95% in about 60 seconds.

  • In this paper, resonant ultrasound spectroscopy(RUS) was used to determine the natural frequency of a spherical and a aspherical lens. The objective of the paper is to evaluate defect and shape error by using nondestructive evaluation method with Resonant Ultrasound Spectroscopy(RUS). The principle of RUS is that the mechanical resonant frequency of the materials depends on density, and the coefficient of elasticity. We evaluated existence of flaws through comparison with resonant frequency of a spherical and a aspherical lens. The spherical glass lenses were made of BK-7 glass, one's diameter in 2mm and 5mm. The polished spherical glass lenses had no deflection or a deflection below 2.0${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Also, The aspherical lens were made of same material and ones diameter in 7mm and thickness in 3.4mm. In the experiment, we were performed to investigate relationship between frequency measuring parameter($\beta$) and mass of each specimens. The difference between resonant frequency and mode of aspherical glass lens which has no defect was distinguished from aspherical glass lens which has some defects.

  • This paper deals with inspect algorithm using visual system. One of the major problems that arise during polymer production is the estimation of the noise of the color product.(bad pallets) An erroneous output can cause a lot of losses (production and financial losses). Therefore new methods for real-time inspection of the noise are demanded. For this reason, we have presented a development of vision system algorithm for the defect inspection of PE color pallets. First of all, in order to detect the edge of object, the differential filter is used. And we apply to the labelling algorithm for feature extraction. This algorithm is designed for the defect inspection of pallets. The labelling algorithm permits to separate all of the connected components appearing on the pallets. Labelling the connected regions of a image is a fundamental computation in image analysis and machine vision, with a large number of application. Also, we suggested vision processing program in window environment. Simulations and experimental results demonstrate the performance of the proposal algorithm.

  • Recently, the steel parts used at the aerospace and automobile industries are required to be used light weight parts. Therefore, used material, steel have to be a high stress, which is an indispensable condition in this field. At the consideration of parts design, high hardness of the lightweight parts have an benefit of saving fuel and material. A high stress of metal has a point of difference according to the shape of design, external cyclic load and condition of vibration. A crack generates on the surface of metal or under yield stress by defect of inner metal defect or surface defect and slowly, this crack grow stable growth. Finally, rapidity failure phenomena is happen. Fatigue failure_phenomena, which happen in metal, bring on danger in human life and property therefor, anti-fatigue failure technology take an important part of current industries Currently, the shot peening is used for removing the defect from the surface of steel and improving the fatigue strength on surface. Therefore, this paper investigated the effect on frcature toughness using shot peening which is improve the resistance of crack growth and crack expansion rate by fatigue that make a compressive residual stress on surface.
