  • The multiparameter eigenvalue method can be used to solve the damped finite element model updating problems. This method transforms the original problems into multiparameter eigenvalue problems. Comparing with the numerical methods based on various optimization methods, a big advantage of this method is that it can provide all possible choices of physical parameters. However, when solving the transformed singular multiparameter eigenvalue problem, the proposed method based on the generalised inverse of a singular matrix has some computational challenges and may fail. In this paper, more details on the transformation from the dynamic model updating problem to the multiparameter eigenvalue problem are presented and the structure of the transformed problem is also exposed. Based on this structure, the rigorous mathematical deduction gives the upper bound of the number of possible choices of the physical parameters, which confirms the singularity of the transformed multiparameter eigenvalue problem. More importantly, we present a row and column compression method to overcome the defect of the proposed numerical method based on the generalised inverse of a singular matrix. Also, two numerical experiments are presented to validate the feasibility and effectiveness of our method.

Materials and Methods: A CZT ingot was grown using the vertical Bridgman technique, followed by proper fabrication processes including wafering, polishing, chemical etching, electrode deposition, and passivation. Response properties were evaluated under various external bias voltages using gamma-ray sources such as Co-57, Ba-133, and Cs-137. Results and Discussion: The fabricated quasi-hemispherical CZT detector demonstrated sufficient response properties across a wide range of gamma-ray energies, with sufficient energy resolution and peak distinguishability. Higher external bias voltages led to improved performance in terms of energy resolution and peak shape. However, further improvements in defect properties are necessary to enhance detector performance under low bias conditions. Conclusion: This study underscores the efficacy of quasi-hemispherical CZT detector for gamma-ray spectroscopy, providing valuable insights for enhancing their capabilities in radiation research field.

  • Injection molding is a process widely used across various industries for molding plastics, and it is the most commonly applied process in root industries utilizing molds. Among the different types of injection molding, insert injection molding, where busbars are used as inserts, is increasingly being applied in the electric vehicle industry. However, currently, the insert injection molding process is manually performed, with workers placing insert components by hand before injection molding. This results in issues related to productivity, safety, and quality. Additionally, there is a growing demand for automation of such production lines due to hazardous working conditions, economic difficulties in the manufacturing industry, and the decline in the labor force caused by an aging population. This study focuses on the application of an automated system for the insert injection molding process used in electric vehicles. The development of an automated system for the transport and insertion of insert components, as well as the inspection and stacking processes after injection, has resulted in over a 25% improvement in productivity and more than a 27% reduction in defect rates.

  • As the variability of recent rainfall is increasing, it is becoming important to recognize the possibility of changes in the current reservoir state in advance and to inspect the stability based on accurate evaluation standards. However, the evaluation standards for the state change factors of reservoirs are still not suitable for agricultural reservoirs and thus much improvement is needed. Therefore, in this study, the evaluation criteria for state change factors specialized for small reservoirs were categorized and standards were prepared by considering factors that may cause state changes on the dam crest, upstream slope, and downstream slope of the embankment. The categorized results were configured based on the number of mentions of the precision safety inspection report on major defects in 102 reservoirs and the defect factors found in field investigations. The findings of the study indicated that the current state change standards require many revisions for excessive or unnecessary state change factors in the reservoir. Specifically, the deletion of measurement gauges not applicable to the reservoir, the addition of defects found in the reservoir, and the scope of use of the term were proposed. The results of this study can contribute to efficient system operation and management by improving the deficiencies in the system and introducing a new state change factor.

  • The in-situ TEM irradiation experiments of zirconium alloy were conducted at 573 K, 673 K, and 773 K utilizing a 400 keV Kr + single beam and a 400 keV Kr+ and 30 keV He + dual beam. The results show that a large number of dislocation loops have been characterized in the matrix of the zirconium alloy under irradiation. With increasing the irradiation damage dose, some dislocation loops have reacted with one another to form a larger dislocation loop, which has finally formed dislocation lines or other defect structures. In zirconium alloys irradiated with Kr + single beam and Kr+ and He + dual-beam radiation, the proportion of <a> type dislocation loops with different Burgers vectors is essentially the same at low damage doses, but the proportion of interstitial type dislocation loops with the same Burgers vectors is obviously different. The amorphization of the second phase and the dissolution of the small-sized second phase were also pointed out. With the increase in temperature, the density of the dislocation loop in zirconium alloy gradually decreases, and the size of dislocation loop first increases and then decreases. Kr+ and He + dual beam irradiation increases the size of dislocation loops but decreases their density as compared with Kr + single beam irradiation.

  • This study explored the effect of double-stacked SiOX/SiNX layers on the passivation quality of n-type bifacial crystalline Si solar cells. SiOX layers were deposited via PECVD under various conditions on n-type silicon wafers with a boron emitter. These layers were capped with SiNX and thermally treated to optimize the passivation. The optimal conditions resulted in a minority-carrier lifetime of 268 μsec and an implied VOC of 692 mV. The optimized SiOX layer had a low interface defect density and high fixed negative charge. When applied to n-type solar cells, the SiOX/SiNX stack improved the performance, achieving a VOC of 646 mV, JSC of 39.3 mA/cm2, FF of 78.06%, and efficiency of 19.82%, demonstrating the potential for higher efficiency in n-type silicon solar cells.

  • To identify locations and causes of interference among parts of an indoor air-conditioning unit, a 3D tolerance analysis was performed and optimized with respect to assembly gaps and the tolerance of each part. The maximum value of the defect rate resulting from the tolerance analysis was found to be 72.6 at the assembly portion of the body and drain. The maximum displacement caused by the thermal deformation during a heating operation was calculated to be approximately 1 mm by using finite element analysis (FEA). Therefore, it is possible that an interference among the assembled parts occurs. The tolerance of the drain was modified by the results of the sensitivity analysis. As a result, the defect rate was greatly reduced to 0.03. Through the FEA results of the indoor air-conditioning unit, it was shown that the improved tolerance of the drain decreased the interference among the assembled parts even though thermal deformation occurs during operation.
