A comparative analysis of deep level emission in the ZnO layers deposited by various methods (다양한 방법으로 성장된 ZnO layer의 Deep level emission에 대한 비교 분석)

  • Magnetron Sputtering, MOCVD, Thermal Evaporation에 의해 성장된 ZnO layer에 대한 Dependency Temperature Photoluminescence (PL)를 이용하여 비교 분석을 통해 Deep level emission에 대해 연구하였다. Sputter에 의해 성장된 ZnO 박막은 Violet, Green, Orange-red 영역의 $Zn_i$, $V_o$, $O_i$의 defect에 의한 Deep level emission을 보였고, MOCVD에 의해 성장된 박막은 비교적 산소양이 낮은 성장 조건에서는 blue-green 영역에서, 산소양이 높은 조건에서의 박막은 Orange-red 영역의 Deep level emission을 보였다. Blue-green 영역에서의 emission은 온도가 증가함에 따라 다른 Barrier를 보였는데, 이는 $V_{Zn}$$V_o$에 의한 것임을 알 수 있었다. 한편, ZnO nanorods는 $V_o$에 의한 Green 영역에서의 Deep level emission을 보였다.

Large-Scale Synthesis of Plate-Type ZnO Crystal with High Photocatalytic Activity (광촉매 활성이 우수한 판상형 ZnO 결정의 대용량 합성)

  • ZnO nanoplates were prepared by seed-mediated soft-solution process. Photocatalytic property of ZnO nanoplates was superior to that of conventional ZnO nanoparticles owing to the enhanced (0001) plane with large defect sites. In addition, we found that silica coating method could provide to reduce cytotoxicity of ZnO nanoplates. Finally, we have successfully synthesized for the first time large-scale synthesis of plate-type ZnO as few hundreds gram scale for industrial applications through controlling various reagents of growth solution.

  • It is well-known that Boron-doped Cz Si solar cells suffer light-induced degradation due to boron-oxygen defect which is responsible of a reduction in lifetime and hence efficiency. In this paper, we assume that PV solar cell has been connected with variable load to account the real operating condition and it shows different light-induced degradation of Si solar cell. To evaluate the effect of light-induced degradation for solar cell with various load, Single crystalline solar cells are connected with open and short circuits during light exposure. Isc-Voc curve evaluate light induced degradation of solar cells and the reason is explained as a change for serial resistance. From the results, Electrical characteristics of solar cells show better performance under short circuit conditions, after light exposure.

The GIDL Current Characteristics of P-Type Poly-Si TFT Aged by Off-State Stress (오프 상태 스트레스에 의한 에이징된 P형 Poly-Si TFT에서의 GIDL 전류의 특성)

  • The effects of off-state bias stress on the characteristics of p-type poly-Si TFT were investigated. To reduce the gate-induced drain leakage (GIDL) current, the off-state bias stress was changed by varying Vgs and Vds. After application of the off-state bias stress, the Vgs causing GIDL current was dramatically increased from 1 to 10 V, and thus, the Vgs margin to turn off the TFT was improved. The on-current and subthreshold swing in the aged TFT was maintained. We performed a technology computer-aided design (TCAD) simulation to describe the aged characteristics. The aged-transfer characteristics were well described by the local charge trapping. The activation energy of the GIDL current was measured for the pristine and aged characteristics. The reduced GIDL current was mainly a thermionic field-emission current.

  • Due to the larger and high-speed vessels recently constructed, output and speed of the engines for propulsion or power generation is increasing. These high-power and high-speed engine of the ship is becoming as a major contributor causing excessive noise and vibration. Other fittings as well as equipment installed on board, it makes equipment failure or other defect by resonance. This causes a lot of M/H(Man Hour) for repairs and the reliability of the company is invading even be negative because the clients give much comment. Thus, it's being studied for any fittings installed on board to maintain the safe operation and to prevent any problem during the performance in any operating conditions. In this study, it was investigated to solve these problems for the supports of the various fittings for easy installation-related support that each type of intensity and shape and manufacturing method using structural analysis program(DNV Nauticus Hull 3D Beam). Namely, it would be applied to the very large crude carriers in consideration of mechanics of materials of the support equipment by providing the fact that dynamics analysis of the structural characteristics of the equipment and the support of the production installation is easy and productivity can be high standards for geometry and thereby to simplify the analysis task to design changes at the same time and to minimize the reinforcement for the supports.

  • Increase of combat capability through the lightweighting of vehicles has been internationally issued. One of the methods for lightening is applying high hardness armor(HHA) steel which is outstanding ballistic performance and protection performance compared to weight. Development of HHA steel is currently completed in America, United Kingdom, Australia and Germany. It is used for not only combat vehicle, but also various combat device. Korea is developing new material of HHA steel according to this trend. When such HHA steel is applied to structure, welding process is used for connection of the structure. Cracks from hydrogen embrittlement and cold cracking are easily generated in welds of HHA steel and it greatly affects the strength of all structure. Decrease of strength from welding defect is critical to combat capability. Therefore, welding process optimization is important for performing the role of structure. In this study, international welding technology is reviewed through scientific research paper and patent.

EFFECT OF PROCESS VARIABLES ON FRICTION STIRRED MICROSTRUCTURE AND SURFACE HARDNESS OF AZ31 MAGNESIUM ALLOY

  • Effects of various friction stir processing (FSP) variables on the microstructural evolution and microhardness of the AZ31 magnesium alloy were investigated. The processing variables include rotational and travelling speed of the tool, kind of second phase (i.e., diamond, Al2O3, and ZrO2) and groove depth (i.e., volume fraction of second phase). Grain size, distribution of second phase particle, grain texture, and microhardness were analyzed as a function of the FSP process variables. The FSPed AZ31 composites fabricated with a high heat input condition showed the better dispersion of particle without macro defect. For all composite specimens, the grain size decreased and the microhardness increased regardless of the grooved depth compared with that of the FSPed AZ31 without strengthening particle, respectively. For the AZ31/diamond composite having a grain size of about 1 ㎛, microhardness (i.e., about 108 Hv) was about two times higher than that of the matrix alloy (i.e., about 52 Hv). The effect of second phase particle on retardation of grain growth and resulting hardness increase was discussed.

  • For assessing significance of a defect in a component operating at high (creeping) temperatures, accurate estimation of fracture mechanics parameter, $C^{*}$-integral, is essential. Although the J estimation equation in the GE/EPRl handbook can be used to estimate the $C^{*}$-integral when the creep -deformation behavior can be characterized by the power law creep, such power law creep behavior is a very poor approximation for typical creep behaviors of most materials. Accordingly there can be a significant error in the $C^{*}$-integral. To overcome problems associated with GE/EPRl approach, the reference stress approach has been proposed, but the results can be sometimes unduly conservative. In this paper, a new method to estimate the $C^{*}$-integral for deflective components is proposed. This method improves the accuracy of the reference stress approach significantly. The proposed calculations are then validated against elastic -creep finite element (FE) analyses for four different cracked geometries following various creep -deformation constitutive laws. Comparison of the FE $C^{*}$-integral values with those calculated from the proposed method shows good agreements.greements.

A Technique for Defect Detection of Condenser Tube in Support Plate Region using Guided Wave (유도초음파를 이용한 복수기 튜브지지판 영역에서의 결함검출기법)

  • General condensers consist of many tubes supported by tube sheets and support plates to prevent the deflection of the condenser tubes. When a fluid at high pressure and temperature runs over the tubes for the purpose of transferring heat from one medium to another, the tubes vibrate and their surface comes into contact with the support plates. This vibration causes damage to the tubes, such as cracks and wear. We propose an ultrasonic guided wave technique to detect the above problems in the support plate region. In the proposed method, the ultrasonic guided wave mode, L(0,1), is excited using an internal transducer probe from a single position at the end of the tube. In this paper, we present a preliminary experimental verification using a super stainless tube and show that the defects can be discriminated from the support signals in the support region.

Color Enhancement of the Type II and Type I aB Brown Diamonds into Colorless by HPHT Process (고온고압법에 의한 Type II, Type I aB 갈색 다이아몬드의 색향상)

  • It is possible to enhance the color of the natural diamond with a high pressure high temperature(HPHT) process. We employed a pyrophyllite tube cell and cubic press apparatus for HPHT treatment on the brown colored Type II (5.6 GPa/ $1700^{\circ}C$/ 52 min), and Type I aB(5.6 GPa/ $1650^{\circ}C$/ 30 min) diamond samples. We investigated the microstructure, Types, fluorescence, properties of the diamonds with an optical microscopy, FT-IR, photoluminescence(PL) spectroscopy, Diamond-View, and micro-Raman spectroscopy. Two tinted brown diamonds changed into colorless just after the HPHT process. Optical microscopy showed that no crack and significant inclusion evolution occurred during the HPHT process except the small graphite spot appeared in Type I aB sample. FTIR spectrum confirmed that no Type, amber center, and platelet defect change with the HPHT treatment. Diamond-View could not distinguish the HPHT treated diamonds from the naturals. PL spectroscopy showed that N3 and H3 color centers remained even after HPHT process. Consequently, we successfully changed the color of diamonds into colorless by 5.6 GPa HPHT process.
