  • Shaping realistic hairstyles for digital characters is a difficult, long and tedious task. The lack of appropriate interaction metaphors enabling efficient and simple, yet accurate hair modeling further aggravates the situation. This paper presents 3D interaction metaphors for modeling virtual hair using haptic interfaces. We discuss user tasks, ergonomic aspects, as well as haptics-based styling and fine-tuning tools on an experimental prototype. In order to achieve faster haptic rates with respect to the hair simulation and obtain a transparent rendering, we adapt our simulation models to comply with the specific requirements of haptic hairstyling actions and decouple the simulation of the hair strand dynamics from the haptic rendering while relying on the same physiochemical hair constants. Besides the direct use of the discussed interaction metaphors in the 3D modeling area, the presented results have further application potential in hair modeling facilities for the entertainment industry and the cosmetic sciences.

  • Models of industrial robot manipulators are characterized by highly nonlinear equation with coupling between the variables of motion. In this paper, a case study that illustrates the use or nonlinear state feedback to decouple the control of a two axis SCARA type robot manipulator is presented. This method is based on a suitable partition about the dynamic equation of industrial robots. The performance of this method is showed by the computer simulation.

  • Giusti-Suzor and Fano introduced translations of the scales of Lu-Fano plots by phase renormalization in order to decouple the intra- and inter-channel couplings in multichannel quantum defect theory (MQDT). Their theory was further developed by others to deal with systems involving a larger number of channels. In different directions, MQDT was reformulated into forms with a one-to-one correspondence to those in Fano's configuration mixing theory of resonance for photofragmentation processes involving one closed and many open channels. In this study, the theory was further developed to fully reveal the coupling nature, decoupling of the background and resonance scattering in physical scattering matrices as well as to further extract the dynamic parameters undiscovered by Fano and his colleagues. This theory was applied to the photoabsorption spectrum of $H_2$ observed by Herzberg's group.

  • This paper deals with a simulation and a position control for linear synchronous motor with Halbach array (HA) permanent magnet mover. We derived decouple the forces (thrust, normal force) by magnetic field modeling of the electromagnetic field analysis. The results of control simulation for HA-PM having air-core primary are calculated using M Simulink.

  • Axiomatic Design has been developed as a general design framework during past two decades and TRIZ has been developed for a design tool over 50 years. Axiomatic design is quite excellent in that the design should be decoupled. When a design matrix is established, the characteristics of the design are identified concerning the coupling properties. If the design is coupled, a decoupling process should be found. However, axiomatic design does not specifically indicate how to decouple. In this paper, a design method is developed to use TRIZ in the decoupling process. The decoupling ideas are extracted from the substance field analysis and various methods in TRIZ. The mettled is applied applied to the conceptual design of a beam splitter for the laser marker and the results are analyzed.

  • The rigid body properties of a structure may be estimated easily if the mass-line of the structure could be taken exactly. However, the exact mass-line cannot be obtained experimentally. In the past years, the modal analysis for which the structure is mounted on the flexible supporter is frequently used to acquire the mass-line. Unfortunately, it is difficult not only to mount the structure but also to decouple the coupled 6 dof mode. If the structure is pended by very long and flexible rope to act free, the rigid-body modes influenced by the rope will be eliminated and the improved mass-line will be obtained. In this paper, the method using the mass-line of F.R.F. for rigid body in free-condition is suggested. The robustness of the suggested method was tested and verified numerically. The experimental results also showed a good agreement with the true value.

  • In this study new vibration isolation system was designed so as to decouple translational motion and rotational motion of a workstation as well as to maximize an efficiency of vibration isolation. Whole motion of the workstation as well as the transmitted vibration from the floor were compared at the two conditions; with and without the cradle system. It was shown that the cradle system had a clear effect to suppress the roiling motion of the workstation.

  • The purpose of engine mount system is to reduce the noise and vibration caused by engine vibration, and to decouple the roll and bounce mode at idle. To reduce the noise and vibration level in a vehicle, it is important to make the design optimization of engine mount system that considered the moment of inertia and inclination of mount rubber. As a result, according to the definition of Torque Rool Axis (TRA), the vibration axis at idle must be on the TRA or very close to it. In this paper, we studied the effect of the design optimization of engine mount system. And we have a good NVH performance.

  • Destination-assisted jamming (DAJ) is usually used to protect confidential information against untrusted relays and eavesdroppers in wireless networks. In this paper, a DAJ-based untrusted relay network with multiple antennas installed is presented. To increase the secrecy, a joint optimization of beamforming and power allocation at the source and destination is studied. A matched-filter precoder is introduced to maximize the cooperative jamming signal by directing cooperative jamming signals toward untrusted relays. Then, based on generalized singular-value decomposition (GSVD), a novel transmitted precoder for confidential signals is devised to align the signal into the subspace corresponding to the confidential transmission channel. To decouple the precoder design and optimal power allocation, an iterative algorithm is proposed to jointly optimize the above parameters. Numerical results validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. Compared with other schemes, the proposed scheme shows significant improvement in terms of security performance.

  • It is desirable to improve the tumor targeting and blood clearance pharmacokinetics of radiolabeled monoclonal antibodies. To achieve this goal, several avidin-biotin (Bt) binding systems have been developed to decouple large molecular weight antibodies from small radiolabels, thereby achieving high tumor-to-background radioactivity ratios. We inserted a readily catabolizable linker, triglycine (TG), between 3-[/sup125/I]iodobenzoate and dendrimer (G3). We also neutralized the positive charges of G3 by acylation with tetrafluorophenyl glycolate, thereby blocking proximal tubular reabsorption of G3 mediated by charge attraction. (omitted)
