Cave 79 of Kumtura grottoes, is the best preserved cave, which has an important meaning for research on Uighur costume. This paper is intended to analyze the costume characteristics of female donors in Cave 79 by comparing image materials between Dunhuang murals and other murals in Xinjiang province. In Cave 79, female donor wears red robe with tight sleeve, whose collar is crescent-shaped decorated. Two different opinions are upheld for this decoration. One regards this as the turn-down collar, while the other believes this as decoration on V-neckline. Red robe is quite common in female donors of Xinjiang and Dunhuang murals and a female in fresco is wearing a crown in a triangle red headwear style, regarded as red silk and drooping at head. Female donors wear an extra coat, kame hair clasp, red jacket, light-colored high-waist skirt with a long-tail waistband, and tangerine Pibo (silk ribbon) with scattered small flowers. All these costume styles are commonly-used by Han females. The kame headwear is also the common ornament for Han females and the female's hairstyle is in cone shape on head by a white kame. Current costumes are similar but not completely same.

The Coptic tapestry has been carried out since the ancient Egypt. The aim of this study is to revive the Coptic tapestry and its cultural, aesthetic influence on the modern denim fashion. Denims have been developed as one of trendy casual wear to symbolize youth and worn by various age ranges. It evolved into a fashion icon due to its ability to change with every social and cultural evolution. In this study, I presented many designs inspired from the Coptic tapestry textiles. The Coptic tapestry style can be a vital starting point for new ideas for decorating denims. A survey has been conducted for two groups of adult females. The survey results clarified that our designs were approved by the younger group than the older one. I hope this study contributes to developing designs inspired by the past artifacts.

During a radio-frequency/vacuum plus press drying process of some hardwood veneers for decoration we investigated the effect of a grain and thickness of a veneer sheet on drying rates, variations of final moisture content within a bundle of veneer sheets, and formation of checking, end waving, and burning mark. About thirty three hundreds sheet of veneer could be dried in sixty five hours from green to in0-use moisture content, and a final moisture content was significantly effected by initial moisture content of veneer. There were nearly variations in a final moisture content among the veneer sheets in the same bundle. A checking was never found in a edge-sliced veneer, and very slight in a flat-sliced veneer of ash and red oak. There were no end waving and no burning mark in all veneer sheets.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the ways in which cultural beliefs influence the lifestyles of the residents and environmental activities, especially decorations on the fronts during holiday seasons. The relationship between holiday displays and cultural values are investigated in the study. This research conducts a case study of two ethnic neighborhoods to understand cultural identification, attachments and environmental decoration. The neighborhoods were visited and their activities were observed during the holidays including Easter, Thanksgiving, Halloween and Christmas from 1992 to 1995. Exterior decorations were measured by a field survey of the frontal areas of 200 houses. This study confirms that the fronts are recognized and evaluated as cultural communications. The holiday decorations and celebrations are intimately related to cultural dimensions. Distinctive groups use different environmental elements in the celebration of holidays. Each culture is distinguished by its own rituals constituted by the interweaving of space and activities.

As the building becomes more sophisticated, indoors and outdoors exterior decoration of construction has been increased. However, it is very difficult to produce an FDM(Free-form Decorative Mold) that meets the requirements of quality, durability, and ease of installation, resulting in a high cost. Therefore, the objective of this study is basic research for economical production of FDM production technology while satisfying the above requirements. For this study, the authors analyze the details of the shape and requirements of the FDM, and the production details and processes that reflect the characteristics. The results of this study can utilize to develop algorithms for production and management of academically efficient FDM and can utilize to secure FDM production technology at commercial level.

This study explored the background of contemporary furniture design called New Design furniture, which newly expresses the aesthetics of communication in the postmodern era. Qualitative conceptual analysis as the principle methodology was used to explore the background of the decorative and meaningful contemporary furniture in postmodernism. Thereby, the postmodern concepts of Charles Jencks, Robert Venturi, and Michael Graves were analyzed in terms of their postmodern architecture and furniture. As initiatives of postmodern architecture and furniture, Jencks, Venturi, and Graves explored the pluralism and eclecticism, the decoration, the semantics, and the materials reestablished from the traditions of craft. As a result, their furniture was expressed by various wood and color; the furniture was beautiful, decorative, pluralistic, and eclectic for communicating symbol, metaphor, narrative, and/or humor with people; the furniture has influenced the communicative elements on the contemporary furniture design called New Design furniture design, which shows the blurring of fine arts and craft distinctions.

During a fire, toxic gas that is generated varies depending on the combustible material occurs. However, all combustible materials, including carbon, incomplete combustion of carbon monoxide which is generated in the most common toxic gases can be seen as one. Accordingly, in this study of organic solids that are generated in case of fire toxic gases, and briefly discuss the characteristics of the risks and, by far the most common Co gas for measures to prevent human casualties, seolbijeok, the temperature dependence, divided into four aspects of administrative daechaekdeung explained.

The objectives of the research are to explain the nature of cultural diffusion and its associated theoretical concepts, to review the nature of traditional Indonesian textiles and to focus particular attention on the origin, evolution and diffusion of motifs and patterns associated with the decoration of two important categories of Indonesian textiles: batiks and ikats. Cultural diffusion refers to the process by which cultural traits, material objects, ideas, inventions, innovations or patterns of behaviour are spread from one social or geographical context to another. Examining the decoration on traditional textiles produced across the Indonesian archipelago, certain motifs and patterns are shown to have been retained from ancient times, and others have been adopted from elsewhere. There is great cultural diversity across the archipelago and ample evidence of cultural diffusion.

This study explored roles of the ornament in contemporary furniture that contemporary furniture designers make their furniture different, convey a metaphorical message, and competitive. Contemporary furniture involved in the ornament is decorative, beautiful, and characterized by craftsmanship through eclecticism and pluralism reestablished in furniture design in the postmodern era. Also, the ornament has been presented in the context of the blurring of art/craft distinctions. Thus, the contemporary furniture is called as art furniture/craft furniture which is diverse from minimal decoration to maximal decoration. Hence, by using all of the ornamental context, the furniture designers try to satisfy and communicate with the largest possible number of people, and have numerous opportunities to select according to their characteristics or taste. Finally, their furniture in the futuristic mode may be cross-cultural work that everybody in the earth can understand, enjoy, and appreciate in his/her daily space through his/her everyday use.
