Unlike general construction works, bridge construction is mostly done in a high place. The conventional deck form of bridge is installed between precast concrete girders using sleepers, bridging joints and plywoods, and after concrete is poured to the deck, the form materials are removed at high altitudes. When removing the form, it may be dropped on ground, damaging the materials and resulting in economic loss. In addition, safety accidents are likely as the works are performed in a high place, and as the manpower increases, the cost increases. Also, it is difficult to install and remove temporary equipment. Therefore, it is required to develop a system form that allows easier and quicker installation and removal by unskilled workers and ensures safety of workers. In this regard, the study is intended to analyze requirements for the system form for pouring concrete to bridge decks, which can be easily installed and removed. The study result will be used as basic information for development of the system form for pouring concrete to bridge decks.

The lack of safety of bridge deck structures causes frequent repair and strengthening of such structures. The repair induces great loss of economy, not only due to direct cost by repair, but also due to stopping the public use of such structures during repair. The major reason for this frequent repair is mainly due to the lack of realistic and accurate assessment system for the bridge decks. The purpose of the present research was to develop a realistic expert system, called Bridge Slab-Expert which can evaluate reasonably the condition as well as the service life of concrete bridge decks, based on the deterioration models that are derived from both the structural and environmental effects. The diagnosis assessment of deck slabs due to structural and environmental effects are developed based on the cracking in concrete, surface distress and structural distress. Fuzzy logic is utilized to handle uncertainties and imprecision involved. Finally, Bridge Slab-Expert is developed for prediction of safety and remaining service life based on the chloride ions penetration and fick's second law. Proposed expert system is based on user-friendly GUI environment. The developed expert system will allow the correct diagnosis of concrete decks, realistic prediction of service life, the determination of confidence level, the description of condition and the proposed action for repair.
Especially, when orthotropic material such as uni-dierectionally woven Carbon Fiber Sheet, resisting only the unidirectional tension, is used to strengthening bridge deck, the direction and width of the strengthening material should be considered very carefully. Thus, analysis of the failure characteristics and the premature failure mechanism of the strengthened decks based on the test results are required. In this study, the premature failure due to the interface debonding of strengthening material of the strengthened deck slab are inquired into failure mechanism through both experiments results and analyses with prototype strengthened deck specimens using carbon fiber sheet. From the test results, interface debonding of strengthening material is occured at the crack face
Increase of traffic volume in recent years results in deterioration of the bridge slab, which is directly subjected ot vehicle loads. Where extensive repair is necessary, replacement or enhancement of load carrying capacity using full depth precast concrete deck is often the most practical solution. Precast deck system has transverse joints between adjacent precast decks. Vertical shear forces occur when a vehicle wheel load is carried by precast decks and the joints are used to transfer the load to an adjacent deck. Effective load transfer between precast decks is critical for integral behavior. Finite element analysis and tests were run on the proposed femal-to-female type joint. 18 joint specimens were tested to investigate the effects of angle. D/H, and confining stress under static load. Results indicate joint with angle of 60$^{\circ}$ and D/H of 1/4 shows the improved load carrying capacity on crack. It is effective in protecting the cracking of joints to keep the joint in compression using confining stress.

In the domestic construction industry field nowadays, the usage of deck plates is currently increasing due to the lack of construction workers and the rised in construction cost. However, using deck plates manufactured by thin zinc galvanization in underground structures is criticised because it can lead to increase in maintenance cost caused by rust generation and water leakage. As a solution for this particular problem, deck plates created by Lath and Mortar instead of zinc galvanized steel sheets were developed. This paper deals with the experimental study on flexural behavior of deck plate using metal lath and mortar. Seventeen fullscale specimens were constructed and tested with different type of truss, the diameter of the top and bottom bar, and the thickness of slab. Tests results show that LAMO deck displayed equal performance such as zinc galvanized steel sheets.

An analytical model is presented to predict the static behavior of the long-span prestressed concrete bridge deck(the long-span PSC deck). The finite element analysis is performed and the results are compared with that of the previous experimental test. The load-deflection relationship curves by FEM are in good agreement with the results reported in the previous study. The failure mode of all test specimens is predicted by the punching shear in this study. It is also observed in the previous experimental test. The main objective of this paper is presenting supportive method to predict static behavior of the long-span PSC deck slab. It is not simulating the punching shear behavior graphically.

The panels are used as a composite part of the completed deck. They replace the main bottom transverse deck reinforcement and also serve as a form surface for the cast-in-place concrete upper layer that contains the top of deck reinforcement. Research has also demonstrated that mechanical shear ties on the top of the panels are required. In a composite deck with precast panels, it is required to notice behavior of transverse joints between panels. In this paper, static tests of composite deck with shear ties and loop joints were conducted. From the results, the validity of loop joints for continuity of deck was observed. Also, a composite behavior was abserved between precast panel and slab concrete. Tested composite decks with shear ties have 140~164% ultimate strength than have no shear ties due to the increase of composite action. Therefore, the shear ties between the slabs were sufficient to enforce composite flexural behavior to failure.

Recently, U-section decks have been more and more used in metro and light rail bridges as an innovative concept in bridge deck design and a successful alternative to conventional box girders because of their potential advantages. U-section may be viewed as a single vent box girder eliminating the top slab connecting the webs, with the moving vehicles travelling on the lower deck. U-section bridges thus solve many problems like limited vertical clearance underneath the bridge lowest point, besides providing built-in noise barriers. Beam theory in mechanics assumes that plane section remains plane after bending, but it was found that shearing forces produce shear deformations and the plane section does not remain plane. This phenomenon leads to distortion of the cross section. For a box or a U section, this distortion makes the central part of the slab lagging behind those parts closer to the webs and this is known as shear lag effect. A sample real-world double-track U-section metro bridge is modelled in this paper using a commercial finite element analysis program and is analysed under various loading conditions and for different geometric variations. The three-dimensional finite element analysis is used to demonstrate variations in the transverse bending moments in the deck as well as variations in the longitudinal normal stresses induced in the cross section along the U-girder's span thus capturing warping and shear lag effects which are then compared to the stresses calculated using conventional beam theory. This comparison is performed not only to locate the distortion, warping and shear lag effects typically induced in U-section bridges but also to assess the main parameters influencing them the most.
Presented are experimental results from 24 full-scale push test specimens to study the behaviour of composite beams with trapezoidal profiled sheeting laid transverse to the beam axis. The tests use a single-sided horizontal push test setup and are divided into two series. First series contained shear loading only and the second had normal load besides shear load. Four parameters are studied: the effect of wire mesh position and number of its layers, placing a reinforcing bar at the bottom flange of the deck, normal load and its position, and shear stud layout. The results indicate that positioning mesh on top of the deck flange or 30 mm from top of the concrete slab does not affect the stud's strength and ductility. Thus, existing industry practice of locating the mesh at a nominal cover from top of the concrete slab and Eurocode 4 requirement of placing mesh 30 mm below the stud's head are both acceptable. Double mesh layer resulted in 17% increase in stud strength for push tests with single stud per rib. Placing a T16 bar at the bottom of the deck rib did not affect shear stud behaviour. The normal load resulted in 40% and 23% increase in stud strength for single and double studs per rib. Use of studs only in the middle three ribs out of five increased the strength by 23% compared to the layout with studs in first four ribs. Eurocode 4 and Johnson and Yuan equations predicted well the stud strength for single stud/rib tests without normal load, with estimations within 10% of the characteristic experimental load. These equations highly under-estimated the stud capacity, by about 40-50%, for tests with normal load. AISC 360-16 generally over-estimated the stud capacity, except for single stud/rib push tests with normal load. Nellinger equations precisely predicted the stud resistance for push tests with normal load, with ratio of experimental over predicted load as 0.99 and coefficient of variation of about 8%. But, Nellinger method over-estimated the stud capacity by about 20% in push tests with single studs without normal load.

In cold weather, the speed of concrete strength development is slow. As a result, construction speed becomes slow and it is problem for all construction site to solve this. So in this study, to shorten removing frame time after placing concrete, mix proportion using early-strength-binder(ESB) and curing method such as using heat line in concrete was considered. At first, concrete mix proportion was examined at -5℃ temperature between ordinary portland cement(OPC) and ESB. And second step, concrete, using mix proportion with OPC, was examined according to curing method(: 1) heat line used and 2) no heat line) and kinds of form (: 1) Deck slab, 2) Half PC slab and 3) SOG slab). All cases are same condition: slab thickness is 1,500mm, double-bubble sheet is used as a curing sheet after placing concrete. After the test, OPC is enough to get strength compared to ESB in special condition and 48~60 hours is needed according to form condition.
