The performance of copper-tungsten for electrodes used in an ultra high voltage interruption system was evaluated by means of an interruption test, which requires a large-scale apparatus and high cost. In this study, prior to the interruption test, the characteristics of a Cu-W electrode were estimated through the DC arc test, which is a simple, low cost procedure. The DC arc characteristics of a 20wt%Cu-80wt%W electrode were investigated with the change of tungsten powder size distribution and the addition of nickel. In specimens containing a high volume fraction of large sized tungsten particles, the relative density and hardness of sintered Cu-W electrodes increased while the electrical conductivity and the DC arc resistance decreased. Furthermore, the relative density became enhanced with the increase of the amount of nickel while the hardness and electrical conductivity diminished and the DC arc resistance worsened.
The ac, dc conductivity and dielectric properties of $DyCoO_3$ were reported in the temperature range of 77 - 300K and in the frequency range of 20 Hz - 100 kHz. It was observed that at low temperature, ac conductivity is much higher than dc conductivity and the hopping carrier between localized states near the Fermi level was the dominant loss mechanism. A comparison of the measured ac conductivity $\sigma(\omega)$ was made with some of the models of hopping conductivity of the proposed earlier in the literature. It was observed that in $DyCoO_3$ the measured ac conductivity, over the entire frequency and temperature region, can be explained reasonably well by assuming two contributions $\sigma_1(\omega)$ and $\sigma_2(\omega)$ to the measured $\sigma(\omega)$. The first, $\sigma_1(\omega)$, which dominates at low temperature, may be due to impurity conduction in a small polaron; the second, $\sigma_2(\omega)$, which dominates at higher temperatures, depending on the frequency of measurements, may be due to the hopping of a small polaron and is reasonable for the dielectric relaxation peak.
We have prepared an aqueous dispersion of poly(aniline-dodecyl benzene sulfonic acid complex) (PANI-DC) that has an intrinsic viscosity (〔η〕) near 1.3 dL/g using aniline as a monomer, dodecyl benzene sulfonic acid(DBSA) as a dopant/emulsifier, and ammonium peroxodisulfate(APS) as an oxidant. We found that the electrical conductivity of a PANI-DC pellet was 0.7 S/cm. A waterborne-polyurethane (WBPU) dispersion, obtained from isophorone diisocyanate/polytetramethylene oxide glycol/dimethylol propionic acid/ethylene diamine/triethylene amine, was used as a matrix polymer. We prepared blend films of WBPU/PANI-DC with variable weight ratios (from 99/1 to 66/34) by solution blending/casting and investigated the effects that the PANI-DC content has on the mechanical and dynamic mechanical properties, hardness, electrical conductivity, and antistaticity of these films. The tensile strength, percentage of elongation, and hardness of WBPU/PANI-DC blend films all decreased markedly upon increasing the PANI-DC content. The antistatic half-life time ($\tau$$\sub$$\frac{1}{2}$/) of pure WBPU film was about 110 s, but we found that those of WBPU/ultrasound-treated PANI-DC blend films decreased exponentially from 1.2 s to 0.1 s to almost 0 s upon increasing the PANI-DC content from 1 wt% to 15 wt% to > 15 wt%, respectively.
Conductive honeycomb-patterned polystyrene (PS) thin films were prepared by the formation of a polyaniline (PANI) thin layer on the surface of the patterned PS thin films using simple one-step chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline. The in situ chemical oxidation polymerization of aniline hydrochloride solution on the patterned structure of the PS films was conducted in the presence of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) to prepare the PANI-MWCNT/PS composite film. The concentration (wt %) of MWCNT was varied in the range of 1%-3% by weight. The dependence of surface morphology of the PANI/PS and PANI-MWCNT/PS composite film to the polymerization time was observed by scanning electron microscopy. The room temperature DC conductivity was obtained by the four-probe technique. The conductivity of the PANI-MWCNT/PS composite film was affected both by the MWCNT concentration and polymerization time. In addition, DC electrical field was loaded during the oxidative polymerization to affect the distribution of the MWCNT included in the composite film, varying the loading voltage in the range of 0.1-3.0 V. The conductivity of the PANI-MWCNT/PS composite film was increased as loading voltage rose. However, this increase stops at a voltage higher than the critical value.
Poly-N-vinylcarbazole/polyaniline (PVK-PANI) composites are synthesized by varying target loading concentrations of aniline (0.025 - 0.1 M). The surface morphology of the composites is studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The temperature-dependent DC conductivity of PVK-PANI composite films was studied at the temperature range of 300 - 500 K. The data suggest that the conductivity increase with an increase in aniline concentration in the composite with an increase in temperature. Further based on the conductivity behavior we can suggest that the PVK-PANI composites show a semiconducting behavior with a positive temperature coefficient of resistivity (TCR). The enhanced conductivity and the positive TCR of the PVK-PANI composite films may be due to the strong interaction between PANI and PVK in the composite films.
Conducting poly-N-isopropylacrylamide-N-vinyl carbazole (PNI-nvc) copolymers were synthesized via in situ deposition technique by dissolving different weight percentages of N-vinyl carbazole (10, 20, 30, and 40%). The structural morphology and FT-IR studies support the interaction between PNI and N-vinyl carbazole. The temperaturedependent DC conductivity of PNI-nvc was studied within the range of 300 ${\leq}\;T\;{\leq}$ 500 K, presenting evidence for the transport properties of PNI-nvc. The DC conductivity of PNI-nvc copolymers signifies the future development of new nanocopolymers that acts as a multifunctional material.
Using Hebb-Wagner's asymmetric cell, partial conductivities of holes and electrons in yttria stabilized zirconia doped with 10 mol% TiO2 have been estimated by a dc polarization measurement. The current interrruption method and ac impedance measurements have been also made to evaluate the ionic conductivity and to examine the consistency of the partial conductivities. Partial conductivities of electrons(σn) and holes (σp) were found to be pro-peortional to -1/4 and 1/4 power of partial pressure of oxygen gas, respectively, except for σn at reducing conditions. In comparison with 5 mol% doped YSZ, σn was found to increase with the increase of TiO2 concentration, but σp stayed at almost a constant value.

When an aqueous liquid such as water having high electric conductivity and high surface tension is discharged from a nozzle under a strong DC electric field, fine drops ranging from 30 to 450 microns can be obtained only through the spindle mode. In the present study, effects of the electric conductivity and the surface wettability of nozzle materials on formation of drops with this mode were investigated. For that, three nozzles with the same size but with different materials were prepared and tested; a stainless steel needle, and a plain and a metal (gold)-coated (except for the tip portion) silica needles. Uniform drops were obtained with the gold-coated silica nozzle over the wider range of the DC voltage input. That is, formation of the liquid cone and detachment of the liquid spindle (ligament) can be more stabilized and frequent with the needles having high electric conductivity but with low surface wettability at their tips.

Electrical sintering of the front electrode for crystalline silicon solar cells was performed applying a constant DC current to the printed lines. Conducting lines were printed on glass substrate by a drop-on-demand (DOD) inkjet printer and silver nanoparticle ink. Specific resistance and microstructure of sintered silver lines and were measured with varying DC current. To find the relation between temperature increase with changing applied current and specific resistance, temperature elevation was also calculated. Sintering process finished within a few milliseconds. Increasing applied DC current, specific resistance decreased and grain size increased after sintering. Achieved minimum specific resistance is approximately 1.7 times higher than specific resistance of the bulk silver.
Conducting polyaniline-poly($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) polymer composites were synthesized via in situ deposition techniques. By dissolving different weight percentages of poly($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) (PCL) (10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50%), the oxidative polymerization of aniline was achieved using ammonium persulfate as an oxidant. FTIR, UV-vis spectra, and X-ray diffraction studies support a strong interaction between polyaniline (PANI) and PCL. Structural morphology of the PANI-PCL polymer composites was studied using scanned electron microscopy (SEM) and transmittance electron microscopy (TEM), and thermal stability was analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) technique. The temperature-dependent DC conductivity of PANI-PCL polymer composite films was studied in the range of 305-475 K, which revealed a semiconducting behavior in the transport properties of the polymer films. Conductivity increased with the increase of PCL in below critical level, however conductivity of the polymer film was decreased with increase of PCL concentration higher than the critical value.
