  • The performance records of 410 Holstein Friesian crossbred cows belonging to seven genetic groups (Fl, 3/4, 1/4, 5/8, 3/8, triple cross and miscellaneous cross) maintained at Livestock Production Research Institute, Bahadurnagar, Okara were analyzed for various parameters of lifetime traits. For the analysis 2 data sets were made. Data set I included all the cows disposed off from the herd which have completed at least one lactation while for data set II performance traits for only first five lactations were considered. The data was analyzed by Mixed Model Least squares and Maximum Likelihood computer programme PC-I version. The least squares means ${\times}$ standard errors for data set I (periods are in days and milk yield is in litres) were $994.5{\pm}15.5$, $1,877.0{\pm}70.9$, $1,651.9{\pm}19.3$, $2,533.7{\pm}36.5$, $3,530.0{\pm}40.5$, $15,785.2{\pm}320.0$, $8.46{\pm}0.19$, $5.66{\pm}0.16$ and $3.79{\pm}0.08$, respectively for age at first calving (APC), Ist lactation milk yield (FLMY), productive life (PL), herd life (HL), total life (TL), lifetime milk yield (LTMY), milk yield per day of productive life (MY/PL), milk yield per day of herd life (MY/HL) and milk yield per day of total life (MY/TL). For data set II these values were $1,004.2{\pm}21.2$, $2,220.5{\pm}113.1$, $1,429.1{\pm}40.8$, $2,302.1{\pm}73.3$, $3,307.2{\pm}77.3$, $13,189.7{\pm}667.4$, $9.10{\pm}0.34$, $5.66{\pm}0.25$ and $4.02{\pm}0.18$ in the same order. For data set I the effect of year of first calving was significant for AFC, FLMY, PL, HL, LTMY and MY/PL. The season of Ist calving was significant only for MY/PL. The effect of genetic group was significant for AFC, FLMY, MY/PL and MY/TL while the effect of parity was significant for all the traits. For data set II the effect of year of Ist calving was significant only for AFC, FLMY and PL while the season of Ist calving was significant for FLMY and PL while the effect of genetic groups was significant for MY/HL only. The lifetime production performance is in general close to the various estimates reported in the literature.

  • Classification of Korean characters(alphabets) and frequency data of them are studied that is essential to information process of Korean. We defined a classification of characters using the concept of 'set of 2 parts' and 'set of 3 parts', and we researched frequencies about all combinations of continual two characters. These data would be important basic data to design input device of computer, for example.

  • For the mixture of shifted Poisson distributions, a method of parameter estimation is proposed. The range of the shifted parameters are estimated first and for each shifted parameter set EM algorithm is applied to estimate the other parameters of the distribution. Among the estimated parameter sets, one with minimum likelihood for given data is to be set as the final estimate. In simulation experiments, the suggested estimation method shows to have a good performance.

  • CALS is a strategy to share integrated product data through a set of standards to achieve efficiencies in business and operational mission areas. In this research, we first studied current status for CALS standard and then analyzed the case of US DoD. The results can be summarized as implementing for two major standard in defense CALS system. They are STEP and XML. Our recommendations can be used to set direction for CALS standard implementation and standard selection process.

  • The object of this work was to investigate the influence of growing district and harvest year on calibration for sweetness (Brix) determination of Fuji apple fruit using near infrared (NIR) reflectance spectroscopy, and to develop the robust calibration across these variation. The calibration models was based on wavelength range of 1100∼2500 nm using a stepwise multiple linear regression. A calibration model by sample set of one growing district was not transferable to other growing districts. The combined calibration (data of three growing districts) predicted reasonable well against a population set drawn from all growing districts (SEP=0.69, Bias=0.075). A calibration model by sample set of one harvest year was not also transferable to other harvest years. The combined calibration (data of three harvest years) predicted well against a population set drawn from all harvest years (SEP=0.53, Bias=0.004).

  • In order to provide the new official coordinates set of Korean Geodetic Primary Framework, the data of Precise Primary Geodetic Network (PPGN) were reviewed and validated in the project and block adjustment stage. Moreover PPGN data set was constructed for various computer processings. The simultaneous least squares adjustment was carried out to assess the net strength, local weakness and accuracy of PPGN and to evaluate the horizontal displacements of the resin of Korean peninsula. Finally, the precise horizontal coordinates set of 1st and 2nd order triangulation points of Korea was computed and presented.

  • The purpose of the present study is to investigate how closely care labels comply with the 1984 version of the Care Labeling Rule, as well as the change in degree of compliance prior to and after the 1988 IFI care label campaign. Label information was analyzed on the basis of country of origin. The information was also divided into two sets. The basis for dividing the data into two sets was the beginning of the IFI care label campaign in 1988 The data were obtained from 1147 checklists. The information for 1147 samples in six clothing categories were collected from department, specialty, and discount stores. Chi-square analyses were conducted to test hypotheses. While there was no significant difference in the number of incorrect labels on domestically produced garments compared to imported garments in set 1, there was a significant difference in set 2. Also, there was a significnat differnece in the number of incorrect labels between in set 1 and in set 2.

  • A network consisting of a set of N nodes and a set of links is considered. The nodes are assumed to be perfect and the states of links to be binary and associated to each other. After defining a network structure function, which represents the state of network as a function of the states of links, we obtain some lower and upper bounds on the network reliability by adopting minmax principle and minimal path and cut set arguments. These bounds are given as functions of the reliabilities of links. The bridge network is considered as an example.

  • In many studies, a researcher attempts to describe a population where units are measured for multiple outcomes, or responses. In this paper, we present an efficient procedure based on ranked set sampling to estimate and perform hypothesis testing on a multivariate mean. The method is based on ranking on an auxiliary covariate, which is assumed to be correlated with the multivariate response, in order to improve the efficiency of the estimation. We showed that the proposed estimators developed under this sampling scheme are unbiased, have smaller variance in the multivariate sense, and are asymptotically Gaussian. We also demonstrated that the efficiency of multivariate regression estimator can be improved by using Ranked set sampling. A bootstrap routine is developed in the statistical software R to perform inference when the sample size is small. We use a simulation study to investigate the performance of the method under known conditions and apply the method to the biomarker data collected in China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS 2009) data.

  • A prototype selection method chooses a small set of training points from a whole set of class data. As the data size increases, the selected prototypes play a significant role in covering class regions and learning a discriminate rule. This paper discusses the methods for selecting prototypes in a classification framework. We formulate a prototype selection problem into a set covering optimization problem in which the sets are composed with distance metric and predefined classes. The formulation of our problem makes us draw attention only to prototypes per class, not considering the other class points. A training point becomes a prototype by checking the number of neighbors and whether it is preselected. In this setting, we propose a greedy algorithm which chooses the most relevant points for preserving the class dominant regions. The proposed method is simple to implement, does not have parameters to adapt, and achieves better or comparable results on both artificial and real-world problems.
