  • A distributed model can easily obtain discharge at any grids spatially distributed in a watershed. But if there are subwatersheds which have various characteristics in a watershed, it is needed to apply a model calibrated at each subwatershed to obtain reliable simulation results for each subwatershed. In this study, a multi-site calibration module that can calibrate a distributed model at each subwatershed using observed flow data was developed. Methods to select multi-site calibration parameters, to apply subwatershed parameters, and to set subwatershed network information are suggested. Classes to implement multi-site calibration technique are designed and a GUI was developed, and procedures for runoff modelling using subwatershed parameters were established. Multi-site calibration module was applied to Sunsan watershed($977km^2$) of Nakdong river basin. Application results showed that the multi-site calibration technique could be applied effectively to model the calibration for each subwatershed, and the simulation results of subwatershed were improved by the application of multi-site calibration.

  • TSK(Takagi-Sugeno-Kang) fuzzy models with linear equations consequents, which represent complex nonlinear systems very well with a few rules, can be easily identified systematically by using input-output data. Many algorithms designing TSK fuzzy controllers based on TSK fuzzy models, which guarantees the stability of the closed system, have been suggested. On the contrary, singleton fuzzy models with singleton consequents can be easily understood and adjusted. In this paper, in order to utilize the merits of TSK fuzzy systems and singleton fuzzy systems, an algorithm transforming a TSK fuzzy model into a singleton fuzzy model having the same input-output relation is suggested. The suggested algorithm is applied to a fuzzy modelling example and a fuzzy controller design example.

  • Atmospheric dispersion modelling has been widely used to predict the fate and transport of radioactive or toxic materials released from nuclear facilities which is an unlikely accidental event. To improve the forecasting performance of the dispersion model, it is required that source rate and dispersion characteristics must be defined appropriately. Generally, source term of the radioactive materials is much uncertain at the early phase of an accidental event. In this study, we computed the source rate with the experimental field data monitored at the Yeoung-Kwang nuclear site and obtained the optimal source rate to minimize the errors between the measured concentrations and the computed ones by the Gaussian plume model. Computed source term showed a good result within 24% of the artificially released source rate.

  • Membrane fouling is the main issue hindering the expansion of low pressure membrane processes for surface water treatment. Therefore, applying periodic hydraulic cleaning for fouling control should be well optimized. Better understanding of membrane fouling associated with periodic hydraulic cleaning would be useful to optimize membrane cleaning strategies. By comparing experimental permeability data with the classical Hermia blocking laws, this study aims at analyzing membrane fouling and understanding dominant fouling mechanisms occurring when filtering a synthetic surface water solution with a pressurized membrane process during six filtration cycles of 30 min each, separated with cyclic cleaning of 1 min by backwashing and forward flushing separately and combined. When applying single cleaning technique, membrane fouling during the first cycles was controlled by complete blocking mechanism while the last cycles were dominated by cake formation. Nevertheless, when combining cleaning technique better membrane regeneration was obtained and fouling was mainly due to cake formation.

  • FEM requires the stress-strain relationship equations for numerical analyses. However, most formulations for the stress-strain relationship published up to the present are not satisfactory enough to properly express all the levels from the small strain to the peak. Tatsuoka and Shibuya (1991) suggested a new single formulation applicable not only to a wide range of geo-materials from soft clay to soft rock, but also to a wide range of strain levels from $10^{-6}$ to $10^{-2}$. The plain strain compression test is carried out to seven samples of research standard sand specimens and two samples of glass beads, which have been used at world-renowned research institutes. In this study, strains of the maximum principal stress (${\sigma}_1$) and the minimum principal stress (${\sigma}_3$) were thoroughly measured from $10^{-6}$ to $10^{-2}$, and the result, applied to Tatsuoka and Shibuya's new formulation, coincided closely with the measured data of the stress-strain relationship from the small strain to the peak.

  • From the environmental aspects, primary productivity of phytoplankton plays the most improtant role in enhancement of marine culture oyster production. This study may be divided into two branches; one is estimation of maximum oyster meat production per unit facility(Carrying Capacity) under the present enviromental conditions in Kamak Bay, the other is improvement of carrying from increase of primary productivity by changing the environmental conditions that cause not ot form an unfavorable environment such as the formation of oxygen deficient water mass using the eco-hydrodynamic model. By simulation of three-dimensional hydrdynamic model and ecosystem model, the comparison between observed and computed data showed good agreement. The results of sensitivity analysis showed that phytoplankton maximum growth rate was the most important parameter for phytoplankton and dissolved oxygen. The estimation of mean primary productivity of Wonpo, Kamak, Pyongsa, and Kunnae culture grounds in Kamak Bay during culturing period were 3.73gC/$m^2$/d, 2.12gC/$m^2$/d, 1.98gC/$m^2$/d, and 1.26gC/$m^2$/d, respectively. Under condition not ot form the oxygen deficient water mass, four times increasing of pollutants loading as much as the present loading from river increased mean primary productivity of whole culture grounds to 4.02gC/$m^2$/d. Sediment N, P fluxes that allowed for 35% increasing from the present conditions increased mean primary productivity of whole culture grounds to 3.65gC/$m^2$/d. Finally, ten times increasing of boundary loadings from the present conditions increased mean primary productivity of whole culture grounds to 3.95gC/$m^2$/d. The maximum oyster meat production per year and that of unit facility in actual oyster culture grounds under the present conditions were 6,929ton and 0.93ton, respectively. This 0.93ton/unit facility is considered to be the carrying capacity in study area, and if the primary productivity is increased by changing the environmental conditions, oyster production can be increased.

  • Emotional interaction in virtual reality is necessary of social communication. However, social emotion has been tried to be less recognized quantitatively. This study was to determined social gaze of emotion in business domain. 417 emotion words were collected and 16 emotion words were selected to Goodness of Fit. Emotion word were mapped into 2 dimensional space through multidimensional scaling analysis. Then, X axis defined dimensions of cooperation, competition, and Y axis of low focus and high focus through the FGD. 52 subjects were presented to stimuli for emotion and gaze movement data were collected. Independent t-test results showed that the gaze factor increased in the face, eye, and nose areas at cooperation, and the gaze factor increased in the right face and nose areas at the low focus. It is expected that this will be used as a basic research to evaluate emotions needed in business environment in virtual space.

  • Software today has become an inseparable part of our life. In order to achieve the ever demanding needs of customers, it has to rapidly evolve and include a number of changes. In this paper, our aim is to study the relationship of object oriented metrics with change proneness attribute of a class. Prediction models based on this study can help us in identifying change prone classes of a software. We can then focus our efforts on these change prone classes during testing to yield a better quality software. Previously, researchers have used statistical methods for predicting change prone classes. But machine learning methods are rarely used for identification of change prone classes. In our study, we evaluate and compare the performances of ten machine learning methods with the statistical method. This evaluation is based on two open source software systems developed in Java language. We also validated the developed prediction models using other software data set in the same domain (3D modelling). The performance of the predicted models was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic analysis. The results indicate that the machine learning methods are at par with the statistical method for prediction of change prone classes. Another analysis showed that the models constructed for a software can also be used to predict change prone nature of classes of another software in the same domain. This study would help developers in performing effective regression testing at low cost and effort. It will also help the developers to design an effective model that results in less change prone classes, hence better maintenance.
