Web-Based Distributed Visualization System for Large Scale Geographic Data (대용량 지형 데이터를 위한 웹 기반 분산 가시화 시스템)

  • In this paper, we propose a client server based distributed/parallel system to effectively visualize huge geographic data. The system consists of a web-based client GUI program and a distributed/parallel server program which runs on multiple PC clusters. To make the client program run on mobile devices as well as PCs, the graphical user interface has been designed by using JOGL, the java-based OpenGL graphics library, and sending the information about current available memory space and maximum display resolution the server can minimize the amount of tasks. PC clusters used to play the role of the server access requested geographic data from distributed disks, and properly re-sample them, then send the results back to the client. To minimize the latency happened in repeatedly access the distributed stored geography data, cache data structures have been maintained in both every nodes of the server and the client.

  • In current digital broadcasting systems, GEM(Globally Executable MHP)-based middlewares such as MHP(Multimedia Home Platform), OCAP(OpenCable Application Platform), ACAP(Advanced Common Application Platform) are the norm. Despite much of the common characteristics shared, such as MPEG-2 and DSM-CC(Digital Storage Media-Command and Control) protocols, the information and data structures they need are slightly different, which results in incompatibility issues. In this paper, in line with an effort to develop an integrated DTV middleware, we propose a general-purpose, reconfigurable DSM-CC architecture for supporting various standard GEM-based middlewares without code modifications. First, we identify DSM-CC components that are common and thus can be shared by all GEM-based middlewares. Next, the system is provided with middleware-specific information and data structures in the form of XML. Since the XML information can be parsed dynamically at run time, it can be interchanged either statically or dynamically for a specific target middleware. As for the performance issues, the response time and usage frequency of DSM-CC module highly contribute to the performance of STB(Set-Top-Box). In this paper, we also propose an efficient application cache management strategy and evaluate its performance. The performance result has shown that the cache strategy reflecting user preferences greatly helps to reduce response time for executing application.

  • Although the reuse of the cached data for scrolling the map reduces the amount of passed data between client and server, it needs the conversions of data coordinates, selective deletion of objects, cache compaction and object structuring step in the clients. The conversion is a time- intensive operation due to limited resources of mobile phones such as low computing power, small memory. Therefore, in order to control the map efficiently in the vector map service based mobile phones, it is necessary to study the methods which reuse cached objects for reducing wireless network bandwidth and overwhelming the limited resources of mobile phones as well. This paper proposes the methods of reusing pre-received spatial objects for map control in the mobile vector map service system based on client-server architecture. The experiments conducted on the Web GIS systems with real data show that the proposed method is appropriate to map services for mobile phone. We also analyze the advantages and drawbacks between the reuse of cached data and transmission of raw data respectively.

  • The web is one of the most intimate technologies in people's daily lives, and most of the time, people are sharing data on the web. Simple messenger, news, video, as well as various data are now spreading through the web. In addition, with the emergence of Web assembly technology, the programs that run in the existing native environment start to enter the domain of the Web, and the data shared by the Web is now getting wider and larger in terms of VR / AR contents and big data. Therefore, in this paper, we have studied how to effectively deliver web contentsto users who use Web service by using service worker that can operate independently without being dependent on browser and cache API that can effectively store data in web browser.

Performance evaluation and analysis of TILE-Gx36 many-core processor with PARSEC benchmark (PARSEC을 이용한 TILE-Gx36 다중코어 프로세서의 성능 평가 및 분석)

  • This paper evaluates and analyzes the performance of TILE-Gx36(Gx36), a many-core processor. The PARSEC parallel benchmark suite was used to measure the performance, and Core i7 (i7) and Atom are used for the performance comparison. When experimented with the maximum number of threads that can be executed concurrently on each machine, Gx36 showed a 2.73${\times}$ inferior performance to Core i7 and a 1.93${\times}$ superior performance to Atom. Gx36 has the largest Last Level Cache(LLC) among the compared processors. Nevertheless, it reported the biggest number of LLC misses, which, we strongly believe, is the major culprit for lower performance than expected. Our study suggests that the DDC employed in Gx36 is not a favorable cache structure for the general-purpose high-performance computing. The actual measurement with off-the-shelf machine provides non-biased data for polishing the future many-core architecture.

  • This paper proposes a new power reduction method for 2D FIR (Finite Impulse Response) filters. We exploited the spatial redundancy of image data in order to reduce power dissipation in multiplication of FIR filters. Since the higher bits of input pixels are hardly changed, the redundant multiplication of higher bits is avoided by separating multiplication into higher and lower parts. The calculated values of higher bits are stored in memory cells, cache such that they can be reused when a cache hit occurs. Therefore, we can reduce power in 2D FIR Filter modules about 15% by using the proposed separated multiplication Technique (SMT).

  • An ad-hoc wireless network provides self-organizing data networking while they are routing of packets among themselves. Typically multi-hop and control packets overhead affects the change of route of transmission. There are numerous routing protocols have been developed for ad hoc wireless networks as the size of the network scale. Hence the scalable routing protocol would be needed for energy efficient various network routing environment conditions. The number of depth or layer of hierarchical clustering nodes are analyzed the different clustering structure with topology in this paper. To estimate the energy efficient number of cluster layer and energy dissipation are studied based on distributed homogeneous spatial Poisson process with context-awareness nodes condition. The simulation results show that CACHE-R could be conserved the energy of node under the setting the optimal layer given parameters.

  • Flash memory has been used by many digital devices for data storage, exploiting the advantages of non-volatility, low power, stability, and so on, with the help of high integrity, large capacity, and low price. As the fast growing popularity of flash memory, the density of it increases so significantly that its entire address mapping table becomes too big to be stored in SRAM. This paper proposes the associated page address cache with an efficient table management scheme for hybrid flash translation layer mapping. For this purpose, all tables are integrated into a map block containing entire physical page tables. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can save the extra memory areas and decrease the searching time with less 2.5% of miss ratio on PC workload and can decrease the write overhead by performing write operation 33% out of total writes requested.

A Remote Cache Replacement Policy for the Chordal Ring Based CC-NUMA System (코달링 구조의 CC-NUMA 시스템을 위한 원격 캐쉬 교체 정책)

  • The chordal ring based CC-NUMA system contains many links to transmit transactions between a local node and a remote node because of its structural characteristics. However, the inclination that the transactions concentrate on the ring link increases both the traffic of the ring link and the response time, which degrades the overall performance of the chordal ring based CC-NUMA system. In this paper we suggest a new remote cache replacement policy that considers both the number of total links and the number of ring links to traverse for the transactions. Our proposed replacement policy can balance data between the ring link and the chordal link properly because it reflects the characteristics of chordal ring based CC-NUMA system well.

Design of a Parallel Rendering Processor Architecture with Effective Memory System (효과적인 메모리 구조를 갖는 병렬 렌더링 프로세서 설계)

  • Current rendering processors are organized mainly to process a triangle as fast as possible and recently parallel 3D rendering processors, which can process multiple triangles in parallel with multiple rasterizers, begin to appear. For high performance in processing triangles, it is desirable for each rasterizer have its own local pixel cache. However, the consistency problem may occur in accessing the data at the same address simultaneously by more than one rasterizer. In this paper, we propose a parallel rendering processor architecture resolving such consistency problem effectively. Moreover, the proposed architecture reduces the latency due to a pixel cache miss significantly. For the above two goals, effective memory organizations including a new pixel cache architecture are presented. The experimental results show that the proposed architecture achieves almost linear speedup at best case even in sixteen rasterizers.
