  • Our study was carried out to develop the severity-adjustment model for length of stay in hospital for percutaneous coronary interventions so that we would analysis the factors on the variation in length of stay(LOS). The subjects were 1,011 percutaneous coronary interventions inpatients of the Korean National Hospital Discharge In-depth Injury Survey 2004-2006 data. The data were analyzed using t-test and ANOVA and the severity-adjustment model was developed using data mining technique. After yielding the standardized value of the difference between crude and expected length of stay, we analysed the variation of length of stay for percutaneous coronary interventions. There was variation of LOS in regional differences, size of sickbed and insurance type. The variation of length of stay controlling the case mix or severity of illness can be explained the factors of provider. This supply factors in LOS variations should be more studied for individual practice style or patient management practices and healthcare resources or environment. We expect that the severity-adjustment model using administrative databases should be more adapted in other diseases in practical.

  • In this article, we present an automated system for adjusting the 6 degree of freedom (D.O.F.) circular fixator. The system includes a scheduling software to adjust the Hexapod Circular Fixator (HCF) and an automated strut with the ability of the multiple synchronized motion and independent motion. The HCF was designed to control a 6 D.O.F. Ilizarov fixator and it's mechanism. The HCF adjustment software evaluates each value of altered length of the HCF struts to correct the complex skeletal deformity by using the X-ray data of the patient. The data of HCF adjustment software feed into the automated strut system which provides the scheduled adjustment. Then, the automated strut is synchronized by input data. Also the data of HCF adjustment software can be used to adjust HCF without automated struts. The proposed HCF system was verified by experiments.

  • Developed in this paper is a prototype extranet using mobile device such as Personal Digital Assistance(PDA) or Handheld PC(HPC). Especially an adjustment transaction system for auto insurance using wireless data communications is described. Using infrastructures such as PCS, Cellular, Private Radio, wireless communications offers tremendous applications in Korea. A survey of such applications is presented in this paper. Also an analysis of currently available infrastructures of wireless communications is described in this paper. The scheme of an adjustment transaction consists of seven steps: (1) get list of adjustment, (2) obtain insurance information, (3) check police record, (4) get an accident record, (5) get bluebook value, (6) examine the car, (7) file report. Comparing with the previous on-line method that spends much time on gathering data, the proposed system guarantees more rapid transaction using wireless communications.

  • In the analysis of categorical data subject to misclassification errors, the observed cell proportions are adjusted by a misclassification probabilities and estimates of variances are adjusted accordingly. In this case, it is important to determine the extent to which misclassification probabilities are homogeneous within a population. This paper considers methods to evaluate the power of chi-squared tests for homogeneity with complex survey data subject to misclassification errors. Two cases are considered: adjustment with homogeneous misclassification probabilities; adjustment with heterogeneous misclassification probabilities. To estimate misclassification probabilities, logistic regression method is considered.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of the divorce process on post-divorce adjustment. This study specifically examines the effects of the pre-divorce marital quality, perceived barriers to divorce at the time of considering divorce, and the level of everyday stress after divorce on post-divorce adjustment of men and women focused on gender differences. Data gathered from 147 men and 208 women living in Seoul and Gyeonggi province were analyzed for this study. The major findings are as follows. First, pre-divorce marital quality, perceived barriers to divorce at the time of considering divorce, and the level of everyday stress after divorce, have both positive and negative effects on post-divorce adjustment of divorced men and women depending on the stages of divorce process. Second, the relationship between various aspects of divorce process and adjustments differ according to the sub-dimension of post-divorce adjustment. Third, divorce process functions differently for divorced men and women. The results show the importance of considering the divorce process, including both pre-divorce and post-divorce circumstances in order to have a good understanding of post-divorce adjustment of men and women.

  • The major purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of intergenerational transmission of self-differentiation on psychological adjustment of college students. Specifically, the present study endeavored to test the causal model focusing on the effect of the father's and the mother's self-differentiation on college student's psychological adjustment through the student's self-differentiation. The data were collected from 254 male and 293 female college students and their parents by using self-administered questionnaire method. The casual model was tested through structural equation model by using AMOS 7.0 program. The results showed that mother's and father's self-differentiation had direct and indirect effect on student's psychological adjustment. The results showed that both mother's and father's self-differentiation had direct effect on son's self-differentiation level, which directly influenced his psychological adjustment. The test of structural equation model also revealed that daughter's self-differentiation level was positively influenced only by mother's self-differentiation, while father's self-differentiation did not influenced female student's self-differentiation. Both male and female student's psychological adjustment was directly influenced by his or her self-differentiation level.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between school adjustment and stress-coping styles among adolescents. Methods: This is a descriptive correlation survey using a convenience sample of 701 middle school students in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon, Jeonbuk, and Gangwon province, Korea. The study's questionnaire included a scale of school adjustment and a scale of stress-coping style. The data analysis, using the SPSS 19.0 program, involved frequency, the mean and standard deviation, the t-test, ANOVA, the scheffe test, and the Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: Positive correlations were identified between positive stress-coping styles and the adjustment to school life of adolescents. The degree of school adjustment varied significantly according to the region, grade, attending private educational institutes after school or not, academic performance, daily study hours after school, and the hours students spend on gaming and Internet use a day. With regard to the behaviors to cope with stress, teenagers with a higher sense of life-satisfaction tended to show active coping behaviors, and female students were more likely to show positive or negative coping behaviors than mystic coping behaviors. Since adolescents' stress-coping styles showed connection with their adjustment to school, it is necessary to develop stress management programs to help middle school students adjust to school life. Conclusion: Based on the study's findings, it is important to develop programs which can help students adjust to school and learn how to cope with stress positively.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating role of school adjustment in the relationship between adolescents' mastery goal orientation and life satisfaction, and the differences according to gender in the relationship. Methods: The participants were 1,947 students from the 3rd, 4th, and 5th waves of the Korean Child Youth Panel Study(KCYPS). The data were analyzed with structural equation modeling(SEM) and multiple group analysis. Results: First, school adjustment of 1st graders in middle school mediated the relation between mastery goal orientation of 6th graders in elementary school and life satisfaction of 2nd graders in middle school. Second, the differences in gender were confirmed. The effect of mastery goal orientation of 6th graders in elementary school on school adjustment of 1st graders in middle school is higher for boys. In contrast, the effect of school adjustment of 1st graders in middle school on life satisfaction of 2nd graders in middle school is higher for girls. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study suggested that mastery goal orientation before entering middle school and school adjustment after entering middle school could be important variables to increase adolescents' life satisfaction. Also, it is necessary to consider gender difference for long-term intervention for improving adolescent life satisfaction.
