In order to find out the basic factors governing the rooting ability of pine cutting, the rooting of cuttings of Pinus thunbergii were examined under various conditions. A total of 5 different solutions of growth hormones made up of 3-indole butyric acid, naphthalene acetic acide and rootone were employed at three different periods of year, the middle of June, the end of September and the early of December. Cuttings prepared in length of 4cm gave better results than those of control ones. Cuttings taken from the 1-0 seedlings were superior to those from the 7-year-old trees. Seasonal variation, i.e., time of collecting cutting materials, played great important role on rooting. The majority of roots were originated from the callus lamp formed at the base of cut surface.
This thesis emphasize on diurnal changes of leaf water potential in relation to differences of cutting arrangement. 1. The more is leaves attached to the cutting, the higher is water stress in the cutting compared with less leaves. 2. The less is diameter of cut-part, the more are shown changes in increased and decrease in diurnal leaf water potential. 3. The more is length of stem, the more are shown water stress in diurnal leaf water potential 4. There is no differences between earthen-ball cutting and non-earthen ball cutting in diurnal leaf water potential. 5. Cuttings with two year's slip, compared with one year's leaf water potential increases slowly, dry weigh of root and numbers of rooted cutting are most likely dependent upon other factors rather than the water stress.
This study was carried out to investigate mass propagation technique by using seed and vegetative propagation of Kalopanax pictus Nakai. For developing seed propagation, seed stratification and 1$0^{\circ}C$ after-ripening treatment induced embryo growth within 1 weeks, resulted in increasing germination rate of seeds up to more than 65% when planted. The softwood cutting using one year old shoot increased rooting rate to 69% whereas more than 1 year old shoot looked like inappropriate for cutting propagation. In the cutting timing, the rooting rate on June, 13 cutting of the first growth shoot was the highest, followed by June 20 and July 4. The most efficient cutting timing seemed to be the middle of June. When cutted shoots were soaked for 30 minute with IBA and NAA 1000mg.$L^{-1}$, rooting rate was increased above 70%. As the concentrations of plant hormone were increased above 2000mg.$L^{-1}$, the rooting rate was slowly decreased.

Background: The leaves of the goji berry (Lycium chinense Mill.) are used as raw materials in processing and by replace fruits to some extent. The reason is that the leaves are cheaper, however, betaine content is higher than in the fruits. These experiments were conducted to determine the planting density and cutting height for producing a large number of leaves. Methods and Results: The cultivar 'Myeongan' with many branches was used. When the shoot height reached 50 cm - 70 cm, harvesting was possible four times a year. The time to next harvest was approximately 38 days after regeneration of new shoots. Leaf quantity was in the order of 1st > 2nd > 4th > 3rd harvest. Insect damage occurred during the third harvest in late July and early August, therefore, eco-friendly control was necessary. The total yield was higher at the planting density 60 cm × 30 cm than that of 60 cm × 20 cm or 60 cm × 40 cm. The yield at cutting for shoot height of 60 cm was increased by 6.3 percent compared to that of 50 cm, At the cutting height of 70 cm, harvest was difficult owing to hardening of stems and thorns. Betaine content, an indicator component of goji berry, was not significantly different according to planting densities and cutting height. Conclusions: The ideal cutting period to produce leaves of goji berry for processing is when the shoots grow to approximately 60 cm, and the leaves can be harvested 4 times a year. The dried-leaf yield was highest at the planting density of 60 cm × 30 cm.

The effect of characteristic of mixture sowing combination on the development of botanical composition was conducted for 12 years on the meadow experiment. The results of this study were summarized as follows. 1. Festuca pratensis lost the expected position of a dominant species. Its vegetation ratio decreased gradually until the last survey year. 2. Arrhenatherum elatius, known as a typical 2-cutting grasss, developed to a dominant species only in the 3- cutting plot without limitation. 3. Alopecurus pratensis, whose feeding value diminishes rapidly, developed to a dominant species regardless of N-fertilization under the condition of 3-cutting, even though the same small amount of seeding was introduced as usual. 4. Trisetum flavescens which causes calcinose exceeded the 40% of vegetation ratio which was the approved rate for feeding at the high N-level (2OOKgIha). 5. Among the introduced, the species showed the significance in quantity were Lotus corniculafus solely in the 2-cutting plot, and Trifolium repens solely in the 3-cutting plot. In the 3-cutting plot legume yet remained under N-fertilization. 6. The appropriate ratio of vegetation for the subordinate species in the mixture sowing combination was easily attained from the least amount of seeding (Gramineae with max. 3Kg/ha, Leguminosae with max. 2kgIha). 7. Into the mixture sowing combination, infiltrated unintroduced species marked more noticeably in the 2- cutting plot than in the 3-cutting plot.

This experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of endophyte staWendophyte-free and -infect) and cutting frequency(3, 4, 5 and 6 timeslyear) on the forage quality of tall fescue(Festuca crnrtzdit~crcerr Schreb.) at the Experimental Field of Grassland and Forage Crops Division. National Livestock Research Institute, Suweon, from 1993 to 1994. 'Ihe results obtained are summarized as follows: CP content of tall fexue was increased with endophyte-free and cutting frequency for two varieties. Crude protein yield(CPY) of tall fescue in 1993 was increased with endophyte-free and cutting frequency for two varieties(P<0.05). In 1994, however. CPY of endophyte-free tall fescue was slightly lower than that of endophyte-infected tall fescue and the higher CPY was observed when tall fescue was harvested 6 times per year. NDF content of tall fescue was not different between endophyte-infected and -free. NDF was decreased with cutting frequency for two varieties in 1993, however. it was not influenced by the endophyte and cutting frequency in 1994. ADF content of tall fescue was not different between endophyte-infected and -free. and it was decreased with cutting frequency for two varieties. IVDMD was not influenced by endophyte, however, it was increased with cutting frequency for two varieties. Based on the results of this experiment, it is suggested that a slight increase in forage quality could be obtained from endophyte-free tall fescue and the quality was increased with frequent cutting.

This field experiment was undertaken to find out the effect of grazing and cutting management on the forage quality and soil hardness at different legumes sown swards of the experimental field of Livestock Experiment Station in Suweon, from August 1985 to October 1988. The results obtained are as follows: 1. Crude protein, crude fat and ash contents under grazing were higher than these under cutting, but showed the reverse results in crude fiber and nitrogen free extracts contents. Average in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) under grazing (72 %) was a little higher than that under cutting (71 %). On the other hand, there was little difference among the mixtures swards in mineral contents and IVDMD. 2. The contents of Ca, P and Mg were a little high in the cutting, but K and Na contents were in gazing. Ca: P ratio in grazing (2.97) was slightly higher than that of cutting (2.94). 3. Production of energies(TDN, StE and NEL) with cutting were appeard to increase by 19.4 %, 13.5 %and 19.0 % than those of grazing, respectively. Mixtures swards including alfalfa showed more production both grazing and cutting. 4. Soil hardness in the top lOcm of soil by cattle grazing was changed from 15.5mm at startihg year to 22.6 mm after 3 years, but in cutting slightly increase from 15.5mm to 16.2mm. Generally it was low in early spring and high in autumn.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of cutting frequency on dry matter yield and nutritive value between heading and headless varieties of sorghumxsudangrass hybrid in 1998. Treatments were var. TE hay grazer(heading type) and Jumbo(headless type) as main plot, and 1, 2, and 3 cutting times per a year as sub plot. Although plant height of sorghumxsudangrass hybrid was no significant difference among treatments, headless type was very slightly higher than that of heading type, and both of variety decreased with 1, 2, and 3 cutting times in order. Also, dry matter yield of sorghum~sudangrass hybrid was no significant difference between heading and headless type. Dry matter yield of first cutting plot in heading type and in headless type was the higher than those of second and third cutting plot. Acid detergent fiber and neutral detergent fiber of headless type were slightly higher than that of heading type. Acid detergent fiber of sorghumxsudangrass hybrid was highest at first cutting plot in both varieties. Neutral detergent fiber of second cutting plot in heading type and first cutting plot in headless type were the highest respectively. In vitro dry matter digestibility of headless type was very slightly higher than that of heading type. And in vitro dry matter digestibility of second cutting plot was the highest in both varieties. In vitro digestible dry matter of sorghumxsudangrass hybrid was no significant difference among treatments. The results demonstrated that although there was not significant difference, cultivation of headless type and first cutting plot per a year were very good for nutritive value and DM yield of sorghumxsudangrass hybrid as summer forage crops in Korea. In order to suggest the proper optimal conditions of the CNC milling machining for the Thin-wall surface, some experiments were carried out. The process was applied in the aerospace industry for the machining of light alloys, notably aluminium. In recent year, however, the mold and die industry has begun to use the technology for the production of components, including those manufactured from hardened tool steels. And the end mill is an important tool in the milling process. A typical example for the end mill is the milling of pocket and slot in which a lot of material is removed from the workpiece. Therefore the proper selection of cutting parameter for end milling is one of the important factors affecting the cutting cost. In this paper, we choose the optimal parameters(cutting forces) to cut thin-walled Al part by experiment.
Twelve-year-old rootstocks of sycamore and sweetgum were coppiced at monthly intervals for one year. Sprout growth was measured three and five years after cutting. After three years, average dry weight of the sprouts cut in May, June and July was lower by 36% for sycamore and by 24% for sweetgum than those cut during the other months of the year. However, these differences were reduced to be 23% and 14%, respectively, after five years.
