Wire-cut EDM is used in Die manufacturing as the part of non-traditional cutting process, But,the determination of it's cutting condition with high efficiency and precision is difficult due to the influence of cutting environment and cutting mechanism. In this study, we examine the cutting performance of the SKD11 and Brass in wire-cut EDM and make the neural network which have the configuration of 5-12-2 and back-propagation learning rule. Through the neural network, we can appraise the cutting performance before working and determine the optimal cutting condition. By introducing this method to the W-cut EDM, we can enhance the cutting efficiency.

This paper deals with the study on the cutting characteristics in ball-end milling process. First of all, the effects of the geometric cutting conditions such as the cutting speed, feedrates and the path interval on the surface integrity were evaluat-ed by the analytical and the experimental approaches. Secondly, the cutting mechanism model was developed to predict the cutting force accurately. It is possible for the proposed model to predict the shape error, estimate system stability and build the reliable adaptive control system. A large amount of experimental set are performed to show the validities of the proposed theories and to investigate the effect of cutting geometry such as rubbing effects, burr effects and etc.

The cutting process of cage motor rotor require high precision and good roughness. The surface roughness of cutting face is very important factor with effect on the magnetic flux density of cage motor rotor. The paper describes a cause of decrease in the cutting force and roughness on low temperature cooling tool by means of analysis on the mechanism of force system at cutting confition and experimental findings. The main results as compared with the room temperature cutting are as follow : 1) The cutting resistance decreased due to low temperature cooling tool. 2) The surface roughness decreased due to low temperature cooling tool.

It is generally known that in high speed work with more than 1000 m/min cutting speed, according to the work material phenomenon of tool wearing is increased due to the some produced neat and as a result this makes the cutting work impossible. In this study, the high speed cutting is possible because of the different cutting from the presently known fact. That is, most of generated heats influence on the quantity flowing in chip greatly. Therfore, this study aims at the behavior of cutting heat generated at high speed cutting. It makes clearly the euqntity of heat flowing in chip, work materal, tool, and inflowing ratio. The cutting mechanism varies by the changing of cutting depth, slant face and contact area through this study. And it is exammined that the influence of heat of all parts is greatly due to the change the contact length of clearance face. It is confirmed from the exp[eriment that the inflowing heat ratio influences the cutting speed greatly and the heat of clearance face can not be disregarded.

Underwater cutting has a different mechanism than dry cutting, and there are more restrictions than benefits. Due to these constraints, research and development of underwater cutting has been very limited. At present, reactor dismantling is emerging as an important task worldwide, and reactor pressure containers, a key part of the reactor, are decommissioned based on underwater cutting. Reactor pressure containers are high-level radioactive waste, which is one of the main goals of today, such as to bridge the gap between environmental, safety, and cutting performance; hence, a process suitable for cutting should be applied. Therefore, many studies are being conducted on underwater cutting in connection with the dismantling of nuclear reactors in various areas in order to find appropriate processes. This paper first introduces the core technology of underwater cutting processes and discusses various processes. The emphasis is then placed on the adequacy of the reactor dismantling application. More specifically, we examine the suitability for the mechanical and thermal cutting processes, respectively, to find a solution suitable for dismantling a reactor. We discuss how each solution can sufficiently perform the specified functions at each stage of reactor dismantling and suggest that these processes can perform all of the work of underwater cutting.

Few studies have been conducted regarding theoretical turning force modelling while considering cutting constant. In this paper, a new cutting force modelling technique was suggested which considers the specific cutting force coefficients for turning. The specific cutting force is the multiplication of the cutting force coefficient and uncut chip thickness. This parameter was used for experimental modelling and prediction of theoretical cutting force. These coefficients, which can be obtained by fitting measured average forces in several conditions, were used for the formulation of three theoretical cutting forces for turning. The cutting force mechanism was verified in this research and its results were compared with each of the experimental and theoretical forces. The deviation of force was incurred by a small amount in this model and the predicted force considering feed rate, nose radius, and radial depth shows a physical behavior in main force, normal force, and feeding force, respectively. Therefore, this modelling technique can be used to effectively predict three turning forces with different tool geometries considering cutting force coefficients.
This study describes a system that monitors the tool and cutting state of automatic beveling operation in real time. As a signal for cutting state monitoring, a motor current detected from the spindle drive system of the automatic beveling machine is used to monitor abnormal state. Because automatic beveling is processed using a face milling cutter, the cutting force mechanism is the same as the milling process. The predicted cutting torque is obtained using a cutting force model based on specific cutting resistance. Then, the predicted cutting torque is converted into the spindle motor current value, and cutting state stability is diagnosed by comparing it with the motor current value detected during beveling operation. The experimental results show that the spindle motor current can detect abnormal cutting state such as overload and tool wear during beveling operation, and can diagnose the cutting stability using the proposed equip-current line diagram.

Nylon wire cutting method by nichrome wire is generally applicable for cube satellite applications due to its advantages of simplicity. However, the system complexity is not avoidable to apply it on the cube satellite with multi-deployable structures. A lower constraint force of the mechanism is also one of the disadvantages of the mechanism. In this study, we proposed a preliminary structure design of cube satellite with the separation mechanism which is applicable for holding and release of the multi-deployable structures. The effectiveness of the mechanism design was verified through function test of EM mechanism. The structure analysis results showed that the structure design proposed in this study is feasible.

The machinability of calicium-deoxidized steel is studied in turning by being compared with that of Fe-Si deoxidized steel under a given set of cutting condition. Tool life, cutting force and cutting mechanism are examined on a few sorts of steel. It is found that adhesive layer "Belag" is developed on the cemented carbide tool and the peak value is observed at the cutting speed of 300m/min followed by gradual increase in the thickness of Belag with the increase of cutting speed. the maximum thickness of Belag is also shown at the feed of 0.3mm/rev. On the other hand, the tool life of carbide tool is more favorable than that of high speed steel (SKH 9) in cutting calcium- deoxidized steel. It is considered that the steel deoxidized with Ca-Si shows better machinability a little than that with Fe-Si. However, the cutting force and the shear angle of the former are similar to those of the latter in turning.n turning.

The surface, generated by end milling operation, is deteriorated by tool runout, vibration, tool wear and tool deflection, etc. Among them, the effect of tool deflection on surface accuracy is analyzed. Surface generation model for the prediction of the topography of machined srufaces has been developed based on cutting mechanism and cutting tool geometry. This model accounts for not only the ideal geometrical surface, but also the deflection of tool due to cutting force. For the more accurate prediction of cutting force, flexible end mill model is used to simulate cutting process. Computer simulation has shown the feasibility of the surface generation system. Using developed simulation system, the relations between the shape of end mill and cutting conditions are analyzed.
