This study was carried out to investigate proper stem cutting position and air temperature to regenerate roots from cuttings of bitter gourd. 'NS454' (NS) and 'Dragon' (DR) cultivars were tested and the cutting position was cut at the 3rd node in the stem (treatment I) and cut at the central part (stem segment) between 3rd leaf and 4th leaf in the stem (treatment II). The air temperature was maintained at 18, 23, 28 and $35^{\circ}C$ in the growth chambers, respectively. The photosynthetic photon flux at the ground of a chamber was maintained in approximately $150-200{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$ during the 16-hour photoperiod. The relative humidity in the chambers was maintained over 85%. After 10 days of cuttings, regardless of cutting position, DR and NS cultivars showed 100% the survival rate in the $18^{\circ}C$ or $23^{\circ}C$ treatments, however, most of plants $18^{\circ}C$ treatment had not rooting. In the $28^{\circ}C$ treatment, regardless of cutting position, DR and NS cultivars showed 100% of the rooting rate. In the $23^{\circ}C$ treatment, for DR cultivar, the node cutting showed 90% of rooting rate and the stem segment cutting showed 40% rooting rate. For NS cultivar, the node cutting showed 50% of rooting rate and the stem segment cutting showed 40% rooting rate. DR and NS cultivars have high rooting rate, while the rooting rate remarkably decreased in the $35^{\circ}C$ treatment. For DR cultivar, the stem segment cutting showed 5.3 of the highest rooting number and the node cutting showed 2.7 rooting number in the $28^{\circ}C$ treatment. NS cultivar was not significantly different the rooting regardless of cutting position. The results suggested that cutting at the stem segment cutting of bitter gourd is an effective cutting method for increasing survival rate and the air temperature should be maintained at $28^{\circ}C$.

o.25${\mu}m$ T-shaped gate P-HEMT is fabricated and used for design of X0band three stage monolithic microwave integrated circuit(MMIC) low noise amplifier(LNA). The fabricated P-HEMT exhibits an extrinsis transconductance of 400mS/mm and a drain current of 400mA/mm. The RF and noise characteristics show that the current gain cut off frequency is 65GHz and minimum noise figure(NFmin) of 0.7dB with an associated gain of 14.8dB at 9GHz. In the design of the three stage LNA, we have used the inductive series feedback circuit topology with the short stub. The effects of series feedback to the noise figure, the gain, and the stability have been investigated to find the optimal short stub length. The designed three staage LNA showed a gain of above 33dB, a noise figure of under 1.2dB, and ainput/output return loss of under 15dB and 14dB, respectively. The results show that the fabricated P-HEMT is very suitable for a X-band LNA with high gain.

Variation of soil properties is studied by permeating injection of chemical grouts, such as cement type, water-glass type and acrylamide type, to the same soil samples with different densities. Moreover, injection tests using specially prepared equipments of 1.0 shot system and 1. 5 shot system are attempted to investigate permeating injection effects in highly compacted soil and in the presence of ground water. The main factor which causes the improvement of cut-off effect and shearing strength is the cohesion of soil. The strength in the loose state is fundamentally governed by the membrane cohesion, meanwhile, in the loose state is governed by the structural cohesion. Injection effects under the ground water flow is considerably decreased, and effective gelling ratio of approximate 45~80% is observed by variation of velocity and gel time, besides grading of injection materials has high relation with permeation and traveling length but has little relation with effective gelling ratio. Permeating injection effects, such as gelling scope, gelling strength in highly compaoted soil conditions can be confirmed by penetration resistance diagram and iso-strength curve.
A solitary endoparasitoid, Cotesia plutellae, parasitizes diamondback moth, Plutellae xylostella. It has been suggested that its antennae are a major sensory organ to search host and recognize host developmental and other physiological condition during parasitization. This research was performed to understand the parasitic behavior of C. plutellae by analyzing sensory types and their numbers on the antennae using scanning electron microscope. There was no significant difference in antennal length in both male and female C. plutellae, in which both sexes had 16 flagellomeres. Three different types of sensilla (trichoid, seta, and placodea sensilla) were located mostly on flagella and analyzed in their density on the different antennomeres. Trichoid sensillum was the major sensory type and showed about 87% density among all sensilla. Both trichoid and placodea types of sensilla exhibited even numbers on all flagellomeres with some decrease at terminal segments. In contrast, seta form of sensilla showed drastic increase in its density at distal part after 9th flagellomere. When distal half of flagellomeres were cut off, the C. plutellae could not parasitize host larvae. Even when only four distal flagellomeres were removed, the parasitism showed only 30%. These results indicate that C. plutellae antennae are required for parasitism and suggest that seta form of sensilla may play significant roles in recognizing host for parasitization.

We evaluated the effect of mixed liquid fertilizer (MLF) on growth responses of plants and soil chemical properties. A pot experiment with red pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) using loam soil was conducted for 81 days in a temperature-controlled glasshouse, and four N fertilization treatments were laid out in a completely randomized design with three replicates: control (C), chemical fertilizer treatment (CF), and two rates (MLF-0.5 and MLF-1.0) of MLF treatment. Soils were periodically sampled and analyzed for pH, EC(Electrical Conductivity), total N, inorganic N and total C, and some growth characteristics of red peppers were measured. During the experimental periods, the pH of MLF soils was higher than that of CF soils. Soil EC increased right after application of CF or MLF, and the intial increase persisted in CF and MLF soils at the end of experiment. Soil total-N increased right after application of CF or MLF, and this initial increase persisted only in MLF-1.0 soils. Soil inorganic N content initially increased in CF or MLF-1.0 soils, but the initial increase disappeared in 56 days after transplanting. Soil total-C was maintained higher in MLF-1.0 soils and lower in CF soils than in control soils, and the intial increase in MLF-1.0 soils finally disappeared to the level of control soils. Plant height, dry weight of plant organs (shoots, roots and fruit), and the number, diameter and length of red pepper fruits were greatest in CF plants. On the other hand, the effect of MLF-application was different depending on the rate of application. However, no consistent effect of N treatments on some major elements of the organs of red peppers was observed. The amounts of N taken up by plants were 1.3 g for CF, 0.8 g for MLF-1.0, 0.5 g for MLF-0.5 and 0.4 g for control treatments. The results of this study showed that mixed liquid fertilizer (MLF) could appropriately serve as an alternative to chemical N fertilizer in red pepper cultivation.
This study was conducted to determine the effects of various growth substrates on the growth and flowering of hydroponically grown Freesia hybrid 'Gold Rich'. Perlite, peat moss and a perlite: peat moss mixture (1 : 1 ratio, v / v) were used as the growing media. The greatest plant height before flower bud differentiation was attained using mixed medium compared to the others. The type of medium used did not influence leaf number, mineral content or SPAD value in leaves. Flowering began at 137 days after planting in mixed medium, which was 13 days earlier than in perlite medium. The whole plant fresh weight was 21.3 g heavier in mixed medium than in perlite medium (40.9 g). A similar result was obtained for shoot length, with the highest value (96.6 cm) obtained in mixed medium, i.e., 20 cm higher than in perlite medium (76.6 cm). Floret number per plant was also the highest in mixed medium (14.4), i.e., 1.7 - times higher than in perlite medium. Therefore, among the substrates tested in this experiment, we recommend using mixed perlite: peat moss medium (1 : 1 ratio, v / v) for hydroponic culture of freesia, as the use of this medium improved the physical properties of the plants, producing the best results in terms of plant growth and cut-flower quality.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of citric acid and fibrin on the regeneration of periodontal tissues using 4 normal canines of five dogs. Mucoperiosteal flap was raised and experimental defects were made at the buccal root surfaces about $4{\times}6mm$ in length. The denuded root surfaces were covered using coronally repositioning technique after root planing alone at left lower canine, root planing plus fibrin at rigth lower canine, root planing plus citric acid at left upper canine or root planning plus citric acid and fibrin at right upper canine. All of the specimens were tangentially cut(about $3-5{\mu}m$)and available for histologic analysis 1, 3, 7, 14 and 21 days after operations. The results were as follows : At one' day after operations, the amounts of fibrin were similarly higher in the group I, II and III than control group and at 3 days after operations, the apical migrations of the long junctional epithelium were prominent in the control group and group I. At 7 days after operations, the fibrin meshworks of each group were partly changed to the collagen fibers and characteristics of the fibers were almost collagenous rather than fibrinous at 14 days after operations and at 21 days after operations, the orientation of collagen fibers were partly normal in group II and group III, but not in control group and group I. Root resorptions were visible in group II and group III at 14 days after operations and more significant in group II than group III at 21 days.
This experiment was carried out to examine the effect of silicate on the rooting of cuttings and growth of cut chrysanthemum. In the first experiment, cuttings of chrysanthemum 'Pink Pixie Time' were grown in a 3 L medium which was supplemented with silicate at 0, 30, 60, or 90 g for examination of its effect on rooting of cuttings. In the second experiment, chrysanthemum 'Backwang' was grown in medium supplemented with silicate at 0, 60, 90, 120 or 240 g per 20 L medium. In the first experiment, the promotional effect of silicate increased with increasing silicate concentration in the medium, resulting in increased length of shoot and root. However, root dry and fresh weights were not affected by silicate concentration in the medium. In the second experiment, number of branches, plant height, number of nodes, and stem diameter in the silicate-supplemented treatments were greater than those in the control. However, dry matter was not affected significantly by silicate concentration in the medium. Fresh weights of the leaf, stem and root in the silicate-supplemented treatments were greater than those in the control.

A novel folding process is proposed using a repeated cold-die forging and annealing to form a sterling silver ring. Sterling silver plate was cut into a doughnut shape, and lattices with 0.43-mm line-width were imprinted on it. The sample was folded by forging using dies with slopes of $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, and $75^{\circ}$ and annealing. For comparison, samples were also fabricated without annealing. Strain was identified by measuring the length of lattices. Vernier calipers, a Vickers hardness tester, an optical microscope, and a UV-VIS colorimeter were used to determine the size, hardness, microstructure, and body color. Without annealing, cracks occurred. However, successful deformation was possible when annealing was used. The results of macro strain measurements show that the outer diameter and width decreased, while the inner diameter and thickness increased after the final process. The maximum strain was increased 0.128 toward the parallel direction. The Vickers hardness decreased after annealing and increased after the folding process. The microstructure results showed that the grain size increased after annealing but decreased after folding. The color difference based on the Lab index was under 10 for all processes. Eventually, a doughnut-shaped silver plate was successfully deformed into a ring shape by the folding process.
The measures of contour-terracing with sod has been executed as a major measures for hillside erosion control works for a long time in Korea. It is, however, recognized that pair terracings make a new slope-face having the more steeper degree of slope between the upper and the lower terraces on hillsides and it also does not contribute for establishing the natural vegetation-cover by penetration of pioneer seeds on the slope faces or cut-faces of hillsides. The study was therefore conducted in connection with the above problems on the cut-face having slope of $40^{\circ}$ and 1.6 meter in slope length with clay soils. Plot allocation for the experiment consists of 3 kinds of 3 replica plots having each $1.6m^2$ of slope area, i. e., the control plot with direct seeding on slopes only ($T_1$), the covering plot with the straw-mats after seeding on slopes ($T_2$) and the seeding plot after covering with the straw-mats. ($T_3$). The main results obtained may be summarized as follows : 1. Effects of the straw-mat mulchings on surface soil loss control:-The total amount of soil losses from each treatments are measured as 4,651 gr from $T_1$, 163 gr. from $T_2$ and 2,891 gr. from $T_3$ treatment respectively. (Refer to table No. 2, 3 and 4). In short, it is recognized that effect of $T_2$ treatment is compared as 28.5 times than that of $T_1$ treatment and 17.7 times than that of $T_3$ treatment respectively. Effect of $T_3$ treatment compared with $T_1$ treatment is also such recognizable as 1.6 times in control of surface soil losses on a slope face. 2. Effect of the straw-mat mulchings on soil moisture content on slopes; -Average per cent of surface soil moisture content by treatments show as 21.60 at the $T_1$, 23.04 at the $T_2$ and 22.21 at the $T_3$ treatment respectively and that of subsurface soil moisture content by treatment show as 23.81 at the $T_1$, 26.16 at the $T_2$ and 24.81 at the $T_3$ treatment respectively. The variance of soil moisture content by treatments was highly significant (Refer table No. 7, 8 and 9). 3. Effect of the straw-mat mulchings on vegetation establishment;-Average numbers of germination by treatments are counted as 237 Nos. at the $T_1$, 246 Nos. at the $T_2$ and 262 Nos. at the $T_3$ treatment plots and the vegetation coverage on ground was almost same as about 90% of covers in all treatments. This effect is more or less lower than that of surface soil erosion control. 4. Regarding the effect on surface soil erosion control, the straw-mat mulchings would be effective as a new measures for control of soil erosion on erosion susceptible lands such slope-faced bare-lands as cut-fill faces, mass-movement faces and bare hillsides.
