Recommendations on the Public Library Services for Older Adults (공공도서관 노인 서비스를 위한 제언)

  • The purpose of this study is to recommend on the public library service for older adults through the analysis of the perceptions of older adults and librarians. To achieve the study purpose, interview method was employed. The interview questions are composed based on the ALA guidelines. According to the study results, the following ten factors were recommended by older adults: 1) various customized life long learning programs for older adults, 2) highly qualified staff for the public library life long learning programs and regular evaluation for the staff, 3) provision of various and new information resources, 4) promotion of public library services and programs, 5) public library staff's kindness and professionalism, 6) regular reeducation of the public library staff, 7) library user education, 8) customized resources, facilities, and equipments for older adults, 9) provision of the library space, and 10) customized library services for older adults. In addition, the following four factors were mentioned by librarians: 1) customized services and programs for older adults, 2) customized collection, facilities, and equipments, 3) adequate budget for public library service for older adults, 4) professionals for the public library service for older adults. The followings were recommended by both the older adults and librarians: 1) Customized library services, programs, collection, equipments, facilities for older adults, 2) Professionals for the public library service for older adults and Regular reeducation for them.

A Study on Curation Service in University Library based on Gamification MDA+ (게이미피케이션 MDA+ 기반 대학도서관 큐레이션 서비스에 관한 연구)

  • In the rapidly changing information environment, users' information needs are diversified, and the necessity for libraries to provide customized curation services away from traditional services is increasing. Although the Second University Library Promotion Plan (2019~2023) mentions user-centered customized services, it is difficult to implement customized curation services in the current university library situation. Therefore, this study examined the theory and case of gamification applied to various fields inside and outside the library to apply gamification to the library, suggested MDA+ and found the junction with library curation service, and built gamification-based curation service prototype for job roadmap in university library. Finally, implications were drawn through verification of field experts.

A Study on Need Analysis for User-Customized Policy Information Services (이용자맞춤형정책정보서비스 수요분석 연구)

  • This study proposed to develop a model for user-customizable policy information services, based on an assessment of policy users' demands and a case analysis of customized services. To do this, we analyzed literature related to user customized services, performed case studies, and carried out a survey targeting policy information consumers. In this way, this study suggested that information retrieval and data offerings, reference information services, policy information network services, library marketing services, and personalized service are details which user-customizable policy information services must provide.

The Effects of Customized Multilingual Services of Academic Libraries on the User Satisfaction of Chinese Students (대학도서관의 다국어 맞춤형 서비스가 중국인 유학생의 이용자 만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • An academic library is one of the largest information sources for international students to obtain learning resources, which have a great impact on their studies. However, most academic libraries currently have not provided adequate multilingual services except English, which makes it difficult for international students whose mother language is not English to perform academic work. Accordingly, the present study defines the customized services for international students as the ones that have been supported in ltiple languages among academic library services and aims to examine their effect on user satisfaction in academic libraries. Furthermore, the study has compared international students' satisfaction with academic libraries - one that provides appropriate customized services with the other that does not. The surveys have been conducted with Chinese international students in two different universities and a total of 138 responses were analyzed. The study found that the customized services for the international students influenced their satisfaction with library use. In particular, multilingual services had positive effects on satisfaction with services such as brochures/signs, access to and use of resources through the homepage, and user instruction. The findings of the study suggest practical insights on how academic libraries provide effective services for supporting international students' academic tasks.

A Study on the Improvement of MyLibrary Service in Academic Libraries Using the CRM (대학도서관에서의 CRM을 이용한 MyLibrary서비스개선 연구)

  • This study tried to provide users with customized services by applying the CRM theory of the MyLibrary functions of the academic library system. The first data were collected through documentary survey and homepage survey, and case study of domestic and overseas college libraries was performed and 3 systems among academic library systems were selected to conduct a survey with their librarians and users of the academic libraries. It was found that librarians in charge of each function of services didn't much utilize information data of users created in the MyLibrary functions. As for an improvement method, it was suggested that systematic management to raise recognition on CRM and utilize it as feedback data is required in order to provide high quality services as well as customized information services to users based on data created in MyLibrary.

  • As the core task was selected in the 3rd Comprehensive Library Advancement Plan, 'Reinforcement of programs and services to strengthen future citizens' capacity required in the Fourth Industrial Revolution', the customized curation service of the library using artificial intelligence technology has recently been in the spotlight. The purpose of this study is to find out how the customized curation service affects the relationship between the library and the user. As a result, the library curation service was proved to have a statistically significant effect on user satisfaction and reliability. Satisfaction and reliability were also found to have a positive effect on library revisit, word of mouth intention, increased use, and new service intention. The results of this study can be used as basic data for the development and the operation of customized curation services based on user demand surveys, and could further contribute to enhancing the status of public libraries in Korea by mproving the competitiveness of libraries in the future society.

A Study on the Service Provision Direction of the National Library for Children and Young Adults in the 5G Era

  • In order to establish a digital-based use environment for the provision of new information services suitable for the 5G era, it is necessary to discuss the direction of service provision by the National Library of Children and Young Adults in the 5G era. Based on utilization services in other fields, library services in the 5G era, including the development and provision of employee education and training services, ultra-high-definition and 360-degree realistic contents and education on library use, provision of multi-dimensional realistic media streaming broadcasting services, provision of telepresence education programs, activation of virtual communities, implementation of hologram performance halls/exhibit centers, and provision of unmanned book delivery services, environment monitoring, safety monitoring, and customized services, were proposed. In addition, based on 5G service, 5G technology, and library application direction, advancing into a producing and supporting base for ultra-realistic and immersive contents in the 5G era, strengthening online and mobile services in the non-contact era, and establishing a smart library environment were proposed as the service provision direction for the National Library of Children and Young Adults in the 5G era.

A Study on the Customized Services of University Libraries According to MBTI Personality Types of College Students (대학생의 MBTI 성격유형에 따른 대학도서관 맞춤형 서비스에 관한 연구)

  • This study intends to classify the users by the MBTI personality type and investigate and analyze information resources and services of library preferred by personality type. Towards this end, we have surveyed the K University students on their personality types and preferred resources and services, and also attempted to explore the possibility of providing customized information services of university libraries according to the MBTI personality type based on the results. As a result of the study, it turned out that there was a significant difference in the preference of digital contents type in the analysis of the data type preference and the quadrant type through the analysis of attitude index type from validating the difference between data / information source and service preference according to the MBTI type. The analysis of 16 types of personality also demonstrated a significant difference in the perception of digital contents. Accordingly, In order to provide services for data and digital contents suitable for personality types in university libraries, it should be preceded by collecting MBTI personality type data for users in the library. After that, when a user requests a reference information service from a library, or requests a book or information, it is necessary to provide a form-specific service or provide a content-specific service.

Understanding Big Data and Utilizing its Analysis into Library and Information Services (빅데이터의 이해와 도서관 정보서비스에의 활용)

  • This study revisits issues for Big data. Three research questions, understanding the concept of Big data, important issues of Big data research and utilization methods for library information services, are explored by the literature and practice reviews. Study results revealed several important issues of Big data including the concept in the context of real world situation, the problems with the accuracy and reliability of the data, privacy and ethical issues, and issues of intellectual property rights. With understanding these issues, a few utilization methods were introduced for Library and Information services. It was included using its analysis for developing vision, adopting Library management, supporting community services, and providing customized information services for various users. The study concluded Big data analysis would effectively provide valid evidences for all those services.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the information need of senior users of public libraries and to present ways to improve senior services based on this. To this end, demographics and public library statistics were analyzed, and opinions and demands on book collection, programs, services, and spaces were investigated for senior users of Gangseo-gu libraries. The survey was conducted with surveys and interviews, and based on the results of the survey, it was suggested that the improvement of senior service should be carried out to customized contents collection, program connecting the past, present and future, services with enhanced access and publicity and securing dedicated space for seniors.
