Performance Evaluation of Hydraulic and Magnetic Clamp Crane for Transporting Curved Steel Plate for Shipbuilding, with Permanent Magnet Applied (영구자석을 적용한 선박용 곡면 철판 이송용 유압식 마그네틱 클램프 이송장치의 성능평가에 대한 고찰)

  • As a new technical approach, a hydraulic and magnetic clamp device was developed to realize a magnetic clamp crane system by simultaneously actuating eight individual hydraulic cylinders. In this approach, an Sr-type of ferritic permanent magnet (SrO· 6Fe2O3), rather than the previous electromagnet, was utilized for the purpose of lifting and transporting the large curved steel plates used for manufacturing ships. This study had the goal of developing and manufacturing a hydraulic, magnetic clamp prototype composed of three main parts, including the base frame, cylinder joint, and magnet joint, in order to safely transport curved steel plates. Furthermore, this research included a performance evaluation of the manufactured prototype and acquired the purposed quantity value in the performance test. The most significant item, the magnetic adhesive force (G), was evaluated in a performance test, which utilized a ferritic permanent magnet (Sr type) with 3700~4000 G of residual induction (Br) and 2640/2770 Oe of coercive force (Hc). In particular, relevant items such as the hoist tension (kN), transportation time (s), and applied load (Kgf) on the hydraulic cylinders were also evaluated in order to determine the optimum values.

  • Objective: Objective of this study is to provide characteristics of injury frequency and severity by driving condition in large truck-related traffic collisions. Background: Traffic accidents involving large trucks draw a lot of attention in accident prevention and management policies since they bring about severe human and financial damages. Method: In order to identify the major risk factors of accidents by driving condition, 255 recognized traffic accidents by large truck drivers were analyzed in terms of time of the day, road type, and shape of the road. Results: The driving conditions in the results are represented by the following form of combination, "Road Type (Non-expressway or Express) - Shape of Roads (Straight, Curved, Downhill, or Intersection) - Time of Accidents (Day or Night)". In the analysis of injury frequency, Non-expressway-Straight-Day condition was the most frequent one. Meanwhile, Expressway-Curved-Day, Non-expressway-Curved-Night and Non-expressway-Intersection-Night were evaluated as high level in view of injury severity. Also, Expressway-Straight-Night is the driving condition that is the highest in risk among the conditions that have to be managed as grade "High". Non-expressway-Straight-Night, Non-expressway-Downhill-Day, and Non-expressway-Curved-Day are also categorized as grade "High". Conclusion and Application: Safety managers in the fields require basic information on accident prevention that can be easily understood. The research findings will serve as a practical guideline for establishing preventive measures for traffic accidents.

Ultrastructural Pattern of Synapses in the Rat Neostriatum during Postnatal Development (출생후 성장과정의 흰쥐 새줄무늬체에서 신경연접의 구조적 변동)

  • This study was performed to analyze the morphological changes of synapses during early postnatal periods. Neonatal rats were grouped by 3, 7, 14, 21, 28 and 42day old, and observed the ultrastructural pattern of the synapses in the neostriatum by transmission electron microscope. 1. The number of synapse, the length of postsynaptic thickening and the amount of synaptic vesicles markedly increase during postnatal development 2. The proportion of asymmetric and curved synapses gradually increase by developmental periods. From the above results, it is suggested that the size of synapse increase during post-natal period, and asymmetric synapse are formed from the symmetric type and curved synapse are formed from the plane type.

  • This study was undertaken to study the morphological changes of rat synapses during early postnatal periods. Neonatal rats were grouped by 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th postnatal weeks, and we observed the ultrastructural pattern of the synapses in the external plexiform layer of olfactory bulbs by electron microscopy. The results were as follows; 1. The numbers of synapses, lengths of synaptic thickenings and amounts of synaptic vesicles were markedly increased in the external plexiform layer during four postnatal weeks. 2. There was a tendency of increasing the proportion of the asymmetric synapse and the curved synapses during maturation. From the above results, it is suggested that the size of synapse is increasing during maturation, and at the same time the asymmetric synapses are formed from the symmetric type and the curved synapses are from the plane type.

Influence of guide vane shape on the performance and internal flow of a cross flow wind turbine

  • In order to make the vertical-axis cross flow wind turbine commercially feasible, a guide vane is adopted and the effect of the guide vane shape is examined in order to improve the wind turbine performance. CFD analysis on the performance and internal flow of the turbine is carried out for the wind turbine model. The result shows that when the guide nozzle is installed, almost over two times of power coefficient are achieved in comparison with the case of no guide nozzle installation. The guide nozzle acts as a role of suppressing the flow resistance at the blade passage, which is found when the guide nozzle is installed. Moreover, in this study, two kinds of the guide vane with a straight type and a curved type are adopted and compared. The curved guide vane nozzle produces higher power coefficient in comparison with that of straight guide vane nozzle.

A Parametric Study about Blade Shapes and Blade Numbers of Water Wheel Type Tidal Turbine by Numerical Method

  • In this paper, a numerical experiment on a tidal turbine was performed based on a water wheel design using the commercial CFD code ANSYS-CFX to contribute to the development of water wheels. The water wheel type tidal turbine was studied with different numbers of rotor blades (including ten, twelve and twenty blades types) and with different blade shapes (Straight, Curved and Zuppinger types) for comparison at several values of tip speed ratio (TSR) ranging from 0.7 to 1.2. The numerical results indicated that the 10-bladed type and the Straight-bladed type turbines absorb the highest power efficiency, up to 43 % at TSR 0.9. In addition, the 20-bladed and the Curved-bladed types showed the lowest performances in all cases of TSRs comparing with the others. Besides that, it was found that this turbine operates much effectively at low range of TSR, especially at TSRs 0.9 and 1 for all cases of blade shapes and all numbers of blades.

Research on the Amount To Be Removed at the Neckline According to the Upper Chest Type (흉부상부형태에 따른 네크라인의 줄임분량에 관한 연구)

  • This research is focused on how to divide the upper chest type and to find out the amount to be removed at the neckline according to the different upper chest type and different neckline depth. The result of the research is as followed. 1. In the result of the factor analysis, the upper chest could be explained by six factors such as the shape factor of the upper chest, shoulder curve factor, shoulder sloping factor, space factor from shoulder to waist, upper chest slope factor, and the bust size factor. 2. The shape of the upper chest could be divided by three groups. The first group is characterized as lagging and bent backward shoulder, slight slope of upper chest, and small bust. The second group is comparatively curved at the upper chest and big bust. The third group is rising and bent forward shoulder, slight curved upper chest. 3. The amount to be removed at the different neckline depth and in these three types of upper chest had a difference due to the differences of the upper chest shape containing the shoulder shape.

Thermal frequency analysis of FG sandwich structure under variable temperature loading

  • The thermal eigenvalue responses of the graded sandwich shell structure are evaluated numerically under the variable thermal loadings considering the temperature-dependent properties. The polynomial type rule-based sandwich panel model is derived using higher-order type kinematics considering the shear deformation in the framework of the equivalent single-layer theory. The frequency values are computed through an own home-made computer code (MATLAB environment) prepared using the finite element type higher-order formulation. The sandwich face-sheets and the metal core are discretized via isoparametric quadrilateral Lagrangian element. The model convergence is checked by solving the similar type published numerical examples in the open domain and extended for the comparison of natural frequencies to have the final confirmation of the model accuracy. Also, the influence of each variable structural parameter, i.e. the curvature ratios, core-face thickness ratios, end-support conditions, the power-law indices and sandwich types (symmetrical and unsymmetrical) on the thermal frequencies of FG sandwich curved shell panel model. The solutions are helping to bring out the necessary influence of one or more parameters on the frequencies. The effects of individual and the combined parameters as well as the temperature profiles (uniform, linear and nonlinear) are examined through several numerical examples, which affect the structural strength/stiffness values. The present study may help in designing the future graded structures which are under the influence of the variable temperature loading.

Experimental Study on Structural Behavior of Precast PSC Curved Girder Bridge (프리캐스트 PSC 곡선 거더교의 구조거동에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • Recently, many overpasses, highway, and advanced transit systems have been constructed to distribute the traffic congestion, thus small size of curved bridges with small curvature such as ramp structures have been increasing. Many of early curved bridges had been constructed by using straight beams with curved slabs, but curved steel beams have replaced them due to the cost, aesthetic and the advantage in building the section form and manipulating the curvature of beams, thereby large portion of curved bridges were applied with steel box girders. However, steel box girder bridges needs comparatively high initial costs and continuous maintenance such as repainting, which is the one of the reason for increasing the cost. Moreover, I-type steel plate girder which is being studied by many researchers recently, seem to have problems in stability due to the low torsional stiffness, resulting from the section characteristics with thin plate used for web and open section forms. Therefore, in recent studies, researchers have proposed curved precast PSC girders with low cost and could secured safety which could replace the curved steel girder type bridges. Hence, this study developed a Smart Mold system to manufacture efficient curved precast PSC girders. And by using this mold system a 40 m 2-girder bridge was constructed for a static flexural test, to evaluate the safety and performance under ultimate load. At the manufacturing stage, each single girder showed problems in the stability due to the torsional moment, but after the girders were connected by cross beams and decks, the bridge successfully distributed the stress, thereby the stability was confirmed. The static loading test results show that the initial crack was observed at 1,400 kN when the design load was 450 kN, and the load at the allowable deflection by code was 1,800 kN, which shows that the safety and usability of the curved precast PSC bridge manufactured by Smart Mold system is secured.

  • This study was developed the metallic plate for fixation in the femur fracture for the orthopedic region and rigid fixation with plates has a firm place in fracture treatment. Most plates can be used for rigid as well as biological and dynamical fracture fixation. The device's designation and sizing has a specific with bending structural stiffness and strength, known meaning that is reliable regardless of the plate by the short type and long type. Short plate have a wrapping of femur and long plate have to preserve a pole of femur. The bending strength of the curved metallic long plate has to evaluate a 11,000N and The bending strength of the curved metallic short plate has to evaluate a 6,525N. The tensile stress through to press a plate is $1573N/m^2\;and\;1539N/m^2$. The device can be used to support Revision case of Hip Implant and to use a case of Hip screw compression of Hip Neck Fracture.
