Evaluation of Compaction Quality using High-resolution Terrain Factor and Soil Moisture (고해상 지형정보와 토양수분을 활용한 다짐도 평가)

  • In this study, a field study was conducted to investigate the relationship between high-resolution remote images and the volumetric moisture, and the number of compaction. Changes in the shape of the surface and soil moisture content were observed and correlated with the number of compactions using roller equipment. As the compaction is repeated, the surface is flattened and the terrain curvature decreases and converges to zero. In particular, the tangential curvature changes as the number of compactions increase. Due to soil compaction, the vegetation index changed from a positive to a negative value, and most of the test site area was homogenized with a negative index. This suggests a decrease in porosity and an increase in volumetric water content associated with increasing soil compaction. Soil moisture, measured using a frequency domain reflectometry(FDR) sensor, tends to increase proportionately with the number of vibration compactions, but the correlation between the number of compactions and soil moisture is unclear. This study suggests that while it is necessary to consider the reproducibility of the experiments performed, the compaction quality of the soil can be evaluated using high-resolution terrain factors and soil moisture.

  • One stage axial type turbine is designed by mean-line analysis, streamline curvature method and blade design method using shape parameters. Tip and hub diameter of the turbine are 300mm and 206.4mm, respectively. The rotating speed is 1800RPM, and the output power is 1.4kW. The flow coefficient is 1.68 and the reaction factor at mean-line is 0.373. The number of stator and rotor of the turbine are 31 and 41, respectively. Mach number of stator exit flow near hub is 0.164. A test rig is developed for performance test to validate a developed design method. The experimental result shows that the maximum efficiency is obtained on the design point.

  • Inlet part of a printed circuit heat exchanger has been optimized by using three-dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes analysis and surrogate modeling techniques. Kriging model has been used as the surrogate model. The objective function for the optimization has been defined as a linear combination of uniformity of mass flow rate and the pressure loss with a weighting factor. For the optimization, the angle of the inlet plenum wall, radius of curvature of the inlet plenum wall, and width of the inlet pipes have been selected as design variables. Twenty six design points are obtained by Latin Hypercube Sampling in design space. Through the optimization, considerable improvement in the objective function has been obtained in comparison with the reference design of PCHE.

  • Concept of the comfort and fitness has become a major concern in the basic function of the ready.made clothes. Until now ready-made clothes were not made by on the basis of the bodytype, but by the body size only This research was performed to classify and characterize the bodytypes of Korean adult males. Sample size was 1290 subjects and their age range was from 19 to 54 years old. 25 variables from the photographic data were applied to analyze the bodytype of trunk. Data were analyzed by the multivariate method, especially factor and cluster analysis. The groups forming a cluster can be subdivided into 5 sets by crosstabulation extracted by the hierarchical cluster analysis. 5 bodytypes classified by the photographic sources could be combined with the anthropometric data and were demonstrated with 5 silhouette. Type 3 and 4 in trunk were dominant and were composed of the majority of 55.6% of the subjects. Bodytypes of Korean males were influenced by the degree of posture erectness and of curvature of the front side of the body in waist and abdomen.

  • Power transformer have many unsymmetrical structure and electric field is enhanced in that area. Those unsymmetrical area are not covered oftenly by solid insulating material which is used as a framework specially in gas transformer. By that result there is a possibility to decrease the total insulation class of the transformer. So in this study the electrical characteristic of $FC+SF_6$ mixture gas which is used as coolants for large power gas insulated transformer and its effects on electrical characteristics of structural material are investigated. Also breakdown characteristic with the tension of taping and curvature of the coil are studied which could be used as a design factor of large power transformer.

  • This paper discusses the evaluation of the safety impact of the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system in Korea. To evaluate the safety impact, this paper suggests an analysis method by using the test scenario and field operational test data. The test scenario is composed to represent the main component factor of the ACC system and ACC related accident situation such as rear-end collision, lane-change, and road-curvature, etc. Also, from the field operation test data, the system's potential to increase the safety can be measured ideally. Besides, field operational testdata was used to revise the expected safety impact value as Korean road conditions. By using the proposed evaluation method, enhanced safety impact of the ACC system can be estimated scientifically.

  • The temperature dependence of the partition coefficients of a neuropeptide, substance P (SP), in isotropic acidic bicelles was investigated by using a pulsed field gradient nuclear magnetic resonance diffusion technique. The addition of negatively charged dimyristoylphosphatidylserine to the neutral bicelle changed the SP partitioning a little, which implies that the hydrophobic interaction between the hydrophobic residues of SP and the acyl chains of lipid molecules is the major interaction while the electrostatic interaction is minor in SP binding in a lipid membrane. From the temperature dependence of the partition coefficients, thermodynamic functions were calculated. The partitioning of SP into the acidic bicelles is enthalpy-driven, as it is for small unilamellar vesicles and dodecylphosphocholine micelles, while peptide partitioning into a large unilamellar vesicle is entropy-driven. This may mean that the size of lipid membranes is a more important factor for peptide binding than the surface curvature and surface charge density.

  • This study made a nationwide metropolitan region map on the basis of disaster vulnerability and administrative boundary, and based on it, it divided small-sized regions and constructed disaster history of each region. For the disaster vulnerability, the study wrote slope, aspect, curvature, wetness index, and drainage density, compared and analyzed regions with disaster and geomorphic elements to distinct the factor with high correlations, and based on it, it divided small-sized regions for forecasting and warning system of middle regions(Gangwon province, Chungchung province, and Jeolla province). Through the method, Gangwon region were divided into 4 small-sized regions, Chungchung into 5 small-sized regions, and Jeolla into 6 small-sized regions.

  • Thermal inflation is an additional inflationary mechanism before the big bang nucleosynthesis, which solves the moduli problem and naturally provides a plausible dark matter candidate. Thermal inflation leaves a slight enhancement followed by huge suppression of a factor of ~50 in the curvature and matter power spectrum, which can be expressed in terms of a single characteristic scale $k_b$. Here we describe the observability of the small-scale features of thermal inflation from various observations, such as CMB distortion, satellite galaxy abundance in the Milky-Way-sized galaxies, and 21-cm power spectrum before the epoch of reionization.

  • In this paper, the electromechanical displacements of curved actuators using laminated composites are calculated by finite element method to design the optimal configuration of curved actuators. To predict the pre-stress in the device due to the mismatch in coefficients of thermal expansion, the carbon-epoxy and glass- epoxy as well as PZT ceramic is also numerically modeled by using hexahedral solid elements. Because the modeling of these thin layers causes the numbers of degree of freedom to increase, large-scale structural analyses are performed in a cluster system in this study. The curved shape and pre-stress in the actuator are obtained by the cured curvature analysis. The displacement under the piezoelectric force by an applied voltage is also calculated to compare the performance of curved actuator. The thickness of composite is chosen as design factor.
