  • This study investigated how the contents of biology domains that were dealt with in the 7th national elementary-school science curriculum were in turn dealt with in the other subject matter areas. Through this, it was hoped that the place and identity of biology as a subject could be more clearly established and defined and additionally, more basic data for developing the new national science curriculum could be acquired at the same time. Subject matter areas that overlapped with biology in the 7th national elementary-school curriculum were practical arts, social studies and physical education. The structure and composition of specific components that were dealt with by these subject matter areas were very different from those of science, and the analysis showed that they failed to correspond across grades. Moreover, topics such as 'natural calamities and the environment' and 'human reproduction' that were dealt with by other subject matter areas, but not in science must be included for developing the new national science curriculum. Accordingly, when it comes to composing the contents of each subject matter area during creation of the new national curriculum, the relevant experts in related subject matter areas should be mobilized to conduct in-depth analysis of the following areas: viability, the most appropriate level of difficulty, and appropriateness of any hierarchy of relative importance between subjects. Additionally, efforts to reflect any improvements in the way the new national curriculum is developed which come about through this research are needed.

That is, five-year-old children showed higher scores than three- and four-year-old children. Second, there were significant differences in the social development within five curriculum areas according to the children's gender and the observation period. • Purpose: This study was conducted to provide basic data for the systematization of 13 areas related to Advanced Practice Nurses (APN). Methods: The three-phase study was conducted as follows. 1) review of APN system and curriculum, 2) Focus Group Interviews (FGI) with 9 APNs, 6 physicians, and 3 nursing professors on the APN system, 3) analysis of clinical practice of the 13 APN areas, and of the accreditation and certification system for APNs, medical board, and medical subspecialty board. Based on the above data, a systematic plan was drawn. Results: The 13 APN areas could be divided into 7 groups based on a review of the APN system and curriculum for the 13 areas. Analysis based on clinical practice showed that the 13 APN areas could be divided into 4 groups. Two themes and seven categories emerged in FGI. The two themes were 1) 13 APN areas that need to be discussed, 2) improving the curriculum for APN. Considering these themes from FGI and the system of the medical subspecialty board, results could be integrated into 2 groups - clinical area and non-clinical area. Conclusion: The 13 APN areas need to be integrated in order to activate the APN system. For that, further discussions on improvements and a standard curriculum according to legislation related to APN should be carried out.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the concept and importance of the hidden curriculum, which has an influence on the learning, culture, and identity formation of medical students, and to examine the student culture related to the hidden curriculum. The hidden curriculum can be defined from various perspectives. However, these definitions commonly include the concept of the whole experience students gain from school life in implicit ways, even though the school does not intend it. The hidden curriculum is related to non-cognitive areas and the culture formation of students in various way, including positive and negative content, and is important since once this curriculum is formed, it has a long-term impact. Therefore, it is necessary to consider not only the formal curriculum but also the hidden curriculum in order to apprehend the overall educational outcome of medical school. For this purpose, schools need to not only support studies on the hidden curriculum but also to endeavor to provide faculty and staff with educational and administrative support so that they can understand the hidden curriculum and be equipped as a role model. Furthermore, medical students need to endeavor to form a positive student culture in order to establish an appropriate identity as a doctor in the future.

  • The purpose of the study is to draw competencies of faculty members at graduate school faculty to implements the NCS-based curriculum. A set of competency was deductively derived from a total of three professors and consultants with more than ten-year experiences and has been involved in developing the college curriculum. The political endeavors of the Korean government toward the competency-based education have been implemented as a movement to the NCS-based curriculum. The requirements for the reorganization of curriculum and education system as well as cooperation among faculty, industry, region and development part of NCS were suggested for the activation of NCS based education and the operation of NCS. However, one of the most critical factors in introducing and implementing the NCS-based curriculum is the role of faculty members. Therefore, it is an urgent issue to equip the faculties with required competencies. Result showed that the competencies required professors at graduate school for the NCS-based curriculum implementation were classified into four areas: marco-level curriculum development; micro-level course design; knowledge across areas; and attitude across areas.
