  • The analysis of distribution line faults is essential to the proper protection of power system. A high impedance fault(HIF) dose not make enough current to cause conventional protective device operating. so it is well hon that undesirable operating conditions and certain types of faults on electric distribution feeders cannot be detected by using conventional protection system. In this paper, we prove that the nature of the high impedance faults is indeed a deterministic chaos, not a random motion Algorithms for estimating Lyapunov spectrum and the largest Lyapunov exponent are applied to various fault currents detections in order to evaluate the orbital instability peculiar to deterministic chaos dynamically, and fractal dimensions of fault currents which represent geometrical self-similarity are calculated. Wavelet transform analysis is applied the time-scale information to fault signal. Time-scale representation of high impedance faults can detect easily and localize correctly the fault waveform.

  • In vector control technique, stator currents of an induction motor are transformed to equivalent d-q currents in reference frame consist of d and q axis, each of which is coincide with flux and torque direction respectively. In this paper, the new algorithm is suggested where the stator current through an induction motor torque is monitored by using a vector control method where an additional equipment is not need. The G-programming is used to apply the suggested algorithm in the experiment and this is applied to an actual system to monitor the torque value of an induction motor on real time. To solve the vibration trouble of estimated torque caused from an unbalanced real rotating speed of an induction motor and measured rotating speed by suggesting the reconstructed in a method based on measurement current signal. This produced system testifies an accuracy of an induction motor through the experiment by comparing the reference value of the control method.

  • In this paper, Frequency spectra of AE(acoustic emission) signals generated from the magnetizing and the load currents in the actual operating cast-resin power transformer of 500[kVA] under distribution system of22.9[kV] were also analysed to distinguish the AE signals due to void discharges from the magnetic circuit noises in the core of cast-resin power transformer. As the experimental results, we could distinguish the AE signals whether those signals were caused due to the void discharges or due to the magnetic circuit noises by analyzing the frequency spectrum of AE signals. Frequency spectra of AE signals generated from the cast-resin power transformer in operation due to both the magnetizing and the load currents appeared in the range of 40-120[khz].

  • This paper describes a transformer protection relay based on induced voltages. The ratio of the induced voltages of the primary and secondary windings is equal to the turns ratio during normal operating conditions such as magnetic inrush, overexcitation, and steady state, but it differs from the turns ratio in the case of internal faults. For a single-phase and a three-phase Y-Y transformer, the induced voltages are estimated and the ratios are compared with the turns ratio. For three-phase Y-Δ transformers, the differences between the induced voltages are estimated to use the line currents because delta-winding currents are practically unavailable. The proposed relay is tested under various conditions such as magnetic inrush, internal winding faults, overexcitation, and different core characteristics. The results evidently indicate that the relay successfully discriminates internal faults from magnetic inrush and overexcitation. This paper concludes by implementing the relay into a TMS320C6701 digital signal processor and reports satisfactory results. The relay requires no hysteresis data and can reduce the operating time of a relay.

  • This paper has proposed a new dead time compensation method for a voltage-fed PMW inverter. In the voltage-fed PMW inverter, a voltage distortion is generated by the dead time effect and the nonlinear characteristics of the switching devices. Especially, the distorted voltage causes 5th and 7th harmonics in the stationary phase currents, and 6th harmonic in the synchronous phase currents. As a result, the integrator output of the synchronous PI current regulator has the ripple corresponding to six times of the inverter output frequency. In this paper, the signal of the integrator output of the d-axis current regulator is used as the control signal for the dead time compensation. The experimental and simulation results are presented to verify the validity of the proposed method.

  • The High-Frequency Radar (HFR) is an equipment designed to measure real-time surface ocean currents in broad maritime areas. It emits radio waves at a specific frequency (HF) towards the sea surface and analyzes the backscattered waves to measure surface current vectors (Crombie, 1955; Barrick, 1972).The Seasonde HF Radar from Codar, utilized in this study, determines the speed and location of radial currents by analyzing the Bragg peak intensity of transmitted and received waves from an omnidirectional antenna and employing the Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm. The generated currents are initially considered ideal patterns without taking into account the characteristics of the observed electromagnetic wave propagation environment. To correct this, Antenna Pattern Measurement (APM) is performed, measuring the strength of signals at various positions received by the antenna and calculating the corrected measured vector to radial currents. The APM principle involves modifying the position and phase information of the currents based on the measured signal strength at each location. Typically, experiments are conducted by installing an antenna on a ship (Kim et al., 2022). However, using a ship introduces various environmental constraints, such as weather conditions and maritime situations. To reduce dependence on maritime conditions and enhance economic efficiency, this study explores the possibility of using unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) for APM. The research conducted APM experiments using a high-frequency radar installed at Dangsa Lighthouse in Dangsa-ri, Wando County, Jeollanam-do. The study compared and analyzed the results of APM experiments using ships and drones, utilizing the calculated radial currents and surface current fields obtained from each experiment.

  • This study proposes a control design for the grid output current and for reducing the neutral-point voltage oscillation through the small-signal modeling of the three-phase grid connected with a three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverter with LCL filter. The three-level NPC inverter presents an inherent problem: the neutral-point voltage fluctuation caused by the neutral-point current flowing in or out from the neutral point. The small signal modeling consists of averaging, dq0 transformation, perturbing, and linearizing steps performed on a three-phase grid connected to a three-level NPC inverter with LCL filter. The proposed method controls both the grid output and neutral-point currents at every switching period and reduces the neutral-point voltage oscillation. The validity of the proposed method is verified through simulation and experiment.

  • In this paper, a new equivalent circuit model for quantum-well laser diode (LD) is proposed. The model includes carrier transport effects in the SCH region, and rprovides, in a stable and accurate manner, large-and small-signal responses of laser diode output power as function of injected currents. SPICE simulation was performed using the circuit model and results are presented for L-I characteristics, pulse and frequency responses under various conditions. It is expencted that the new equaivalent circuit model will find useful applications for designing and analyzing OEIC, LD driver circuits, and LD packaging.

  • A robust control for robot manipulators actuated by induction motors using neural networks(NNs) is considered. The control is designed to compensate for nonlinear dynamics associated with the mechanical subsystem and the electrical subsystems only with the measurements of link position, link velocity and stator winding currents. Two-layer NNs are used to approximate unknown functions occurring from parameter variation during backstepping design process. Specially, through the use of nonlinear observers for rotor flux, observed backstepping controller is designed to achieve uniform ultimately bounded link position tracking of the given reference signal ...
