High-Speed BiCMOS Comparator

  • This paper introduces the design of BiCMOS latched comparator circuit for high-speed system application, which can be used in data conversion, instrumentation, communication system etc. By exploiting the advantage technology of the combination of both the bipolar transistor and the CMOS transistor devices. The comparator circuit includes an input stage that combines MOS sampling with a bipolar regenerative amplifier. The resistive load of conventional current-steering comparator is replaced by a load, which is made by a NMOS transistor. The advantage of design and PSPICE simulation of BiCMOS latched comparator are the circuit will obtain wide bandwidth with lowest power consumption at a single supply voltage. All the characteristics of the proposed BiCMOS latched comparator circuit is carried out by simulation program.

The Changing Role of Government Research Institutes in Innovation Systems

  • Recent years have seen an intensified discussion in many OECD countries about the role and mission of public research in the innovation system. This discussion takes place in quite specific national contexts, but should benefit from international experience. However, whereas voluminous literatures address the changing governance methods, organizational forms and missions of universities, much less attention has been devoted to developing a common understanding of the challenges faced by non-university public research institutions. The main goals of this paper is to contribute to clarifying the nature of these challenges, outlines possible policy answers and draws some implications for Korea. In the first section, the paper uses available internationally comparable indicators to review trends in the contribution of government research institutes (GRIs) to R&D and innovation activities. In the second section, the paper identifies the current major changes in the dynamics of innovation that may call for further adjustments in the positioning, organization and steering of public research institutes. Finally, the paper outlines some strategic objectives and orientations for the reform of public research institutes as part of the broader agenda of the Korean innovation strategy.

위성발사체의 궤적최적화와 최적 유도 알고리듬 설계 (Trajectory Optimization and Optimal Explicit Guidance Algorithm Design for a Satellite Launch Vehicle)

  • Ascent trajectory optimization and optimal explicit guidance problems for a satellite launch vehicle in a 2-dimensional pitch plane are studied. The trajectory optimization problem with boundary conditions is formulated as a nonlinear programming problem by parameterizing the pitch attitude control variable, and is solved by using the SQP algorithm. The flight constraints such as gravity-turn are imposed. An optimal explicit guidance algorithm in the exoatmospheric phase is also presented, the guidance algorithm provides steering command and time-to-go value directly using the current states of the vehicle and the desired orbit insertion conditions. To verify the optimality and accuracy of the algorithm simulations are performed.

  • In this paper. A PID motion controller based on the fuzzy concept is discussed for nonholonomic mobile robot. The difficulties in controlling such a Mobile robot vehicle lies in the fact that it usually has only two degrees of freedom for motion control in a tracking mode. It makes the control of speed and steering possible to decompose the error between the reference posture and the current posture. The Gyro compass is used to measure the position of robot. The proposed nonholonomic mobile robot is shown to follow the reference trajectory and compensate the dynamics. Simulation results are provided to validate the proposed controller. Experiments have been used to verify the effectiveness and robustness of the motion controller.

  • Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) involves locating, rescuing (extricating), and medically stabilizing victims trapped in confined spaces. In this paper we state the current approach to USAR, address the limitations and discuss the way for moving in rugged topography. To achieve objectives such as surveillance, reconnaissance, and rescue, it is necessary to develop a driving mechanism that can handle rugged geographical features. We propose a new type of driving mechanism for a rescue robot that has a variable shape single-track. By using a variety shapes, it can get the gain of steering and rotating and the ability to overcome stairs. In this paper, we analyzed the design parameters for making variable transform shapes and determined the specifications of the robot to enhance adaptability to stairs.

  • LKAS(Lane Keeping Assistance System) main function is to support the driver in keeping the vehicle within the current lane. Therefore, this system is able to reduce the driver workload with assisting the driver during driving. In this paper, we presented on study for test procedures and evaluation methods of the LKAS. The vehicle test conducted on straight road, left curve, right curve and four different types of lane under various vehicle speeds. This study proposed the LKAS system test procedures and methods that we are able to identify LKAS driving mechanism and performance.

Broadband Phase-change Metagrating Design for Efficient Active Reflection Steering

  • In this paper, I introduce a novel design method of a high performance nanophotonic beam deflector providing broadband operation, large active tunability, and signal efficiency, simultaneously. By combining thermo-optically tunable vanadium dioxide nano-ridges and a metallic mirror, reconfigurable local optical phase of reflected diffraction beams can be engineered in a desired manner over broad bandwidth. The active metagrating deflectors are systematically designed for tunable deflection of reflection beams according to the thermal phase-change of vanadium dioxide nano-ridges. Moreover, by multiplexing the phase-change supercells, a robust design of actively tunable beam splitter is also verified numerically. It is expected that the proposed intuitive and simple design method would contribute to development of next-generation optical interconnects and spatial light modulators with high performances. The author also envisions that this study would be fruitful for modern holographic displays and three-dimensional depth sensing technologies.

2.5V 10-bit 300MSPS 고성능 CMOS D/A 변환기의 설계 (Design of a 2.5V 10-bit 300MSPS CMOS D/A Converter)

  • 본 논문에서는 CMOS로 구현된 2.5v 10-bit 300MSPS의 D/A 변환기를 제안하였다. 이를 위해 전체구조는 고속동작에 유리한 전류구동 방식의 8+2 분할 타입으로 상위 8-bit은 Thermometer Code 기법을 이용한 전류셀 매트릭스(Current Cell Matrix)로, 하위 2-bit은 이진 가중 전류열(Binary Weighted Current Array)로 설계하였다. 우수한 다이내믹 특성 및 고속 동작을 만족시키기 위해 낮은 글리치 에너지를 갖는 새로운 전류셀과 BDD(Binary Decision Diagram)에 의한 논리합성 기법을 활용한 새로운 역 Thermometer Decoder를 제안하였다. 제안된 DAC는 $0.25{\mu}m$, 1-Poly, 5-Metal, n-well CMOS 공정으로 제작되었으며, 유효 칩 면적은 $1.56mm^2$이고, 2.5V의 전원전압에서 84mW의 전력소모를 나타내었다. 모의실험 및 측정을 통해 최대 글리치 에너지는 0.9pVsec@fs=100MHz, 15pVsec@fs=300MHz로 나타났다. 또한 출력 주파수가 1MHz, 샘플링 주파수가 300MHz에서의 INL과 DNL은 약 ${\pm}$1.5LSB 이내로, SFDR은 45dB로 측정되었다.

TV 유휴대역 응용을 위한 무선 영상전송 시스템 (A Wireless Video Streaming System for TV White Space Applications)

  • 본 논문에서는 TV 유휴대역에서 가능한 응용서비스중 하나로서, UHF 대역(470~806 MHz)에서 동작하는 무선 영상전송 시스템을 구현하였다. 이 시스템은 RF 송수신기 모듈, 디지털 모뎀, 카메라, 스크린으로 구성된다. RF 송수신기와 디지털 모뎀을 연동하여 VGA급 화질의 카메라 영상을 2.6 인치 LCD 스크린에 표시하는 방식이다. RF 송수신기 구조는 크기와 비용을 줄이기 위해 직접변환 방식을 채택하였다. 성능지표인 Image Leakage를 향상시키기 위하여 PLL의 출력에 3차 하모닉 제거필터를 사용하였으며, DC offset 문제 해결을 위해 DAC 출력노드에 Current steering technique을 이용하여 공통모드 전압을 조절하게 하였다. 또한, 채널대역폭은 국가별 표준을 맞게 6, 7, 8 MHz 중 선택이 가능하다. 출력 파워와 수신감도는 각각 +10 dBm, -82 dBm이다. 디지털모뎀은 Kintex-7급 FPGA에서 구현하였다. QPSK와 512ch OFDM 변조를 기반으로 전송속도는 약 9 Mbps이다. 개발된 송수신 모듈을 이용하여 VGA급 화질을 무선으로 송수신하는데 성공하였다.

  • 형상기억합금(SMA)을 이용한 액추에이션 방식은 차세대 의료기기 시장을 선도할 중요한 핵심기술이다. 그 이유는 인간의 손동작과 같은 유연성과 섬세한 움직임을 구현할 수 있어서 시술자의 정교한 최소침습술(MIS) 테크닉을 그대로 인체내 병변치료에 적용할 수 있는 장점이 있기 때문이다. 그러나 아직까지 SMA 액추에이터가 상용화에 크게 성공을 거두지 못한 이유는 SMA 고유의 히스테리시스(hysteresis)와 같은 비선형적 동특성이 아직 해결되지 못하고 있기 때문이다. 이러한 한계성을 극복해줄 수 있는 방안으로 본 저자는 펠티에 효과(Peltier effect)를 이용한 열전소자를 SMA 카테터에 결합하여 능동적이고 신속하게 급열 급랭할 수 있는 SMA 액추에이터를 특허등록하였고, 본 연구를 통해 열전소자의 연속전류의 단계적 전류증가에 따른 온도변화, 불연속 정전류 역전류에 따른 온도변화를 평가하고 고찰하였다.
