  • In this paper, based on the mode analysis of four-conductor lines, the extended mixed-mode chain-parameters and S-parameters of four-conductor lines are estimated using current division factors. The extended mixed-mode chain-parameters of cascaded four-conductor lines are then obtained with mode conversion. And, the extended mixed-mode S-parameters of cascaded four-conductor lines can be predicted from the transformation of the extended chain-parameters. Compared to the extended mixed-mode S-parameters of four-conductor lines, the cross-mode S-parameters are induced in the extended mixed-mode S-parameters of cascaded four-conductor lines, due to the imbalanced current division factors of cascaded two sections. The generated cross-mode S-parameters make the equivalent different- and common-mode conductors not independent from each other again. In addition, a new mode conversion, which applies the imbalanced current division factors, between the extended mixed-mode S-parameters and standard S-parameters is also proposed in this paper. Finally, the validity of the proposed extended mixed-mode S-parameters and mode conversion is confirmed by a comparison of the simulated and estimated results of shielded cable.

  • Audio power amplifiers have been designed based on the premise that the impedance of loudspeakers is fixed at nominal 4 ohms or 8 ohms. However, it is known that the impedance varies with frequency and takes on the nominal value at some limited frequencies. The principle of the loudspeaker operation reveals that the sound pressure produced by the loudspeaker is proportional to the current flowing in the voice coil, not the voltage between the two terminals. We take the characteristics of the loudspeaker into account and compare the frequency responses of the loudspeaker in voltage-drive mode and current-drive mode via computer simulations, to conclude that the audio amplifier drive mode should be re-considered in an effort to improve the sound quality.

  • Recently, many researches have been carried out for a high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet which is advantageous in high critical current density and critical temperature. In HTS magnet, however, critical current is decreased by perpendicular magnetic field and persistent current is hard to maintain due to a low index value and high joint resistance compared with low temperature superconducting (LTS) magnet. In this paper, the HTS magnet using BSCCO wire was simulated through finite element method (FEM) and manufactured. we experimentally investigated operating characteristics of the compensating mode of the HTS magnet for current decay and made a comparison between persistent current mode and compensating mode. A feedback control unit was used to sustain current within specified ranges with defined upper and lower limits.

  • An efficient sensing scheme adoptable in DC-DC converter is described. The output voltage of the whole DC-DC converter is fed back to the input voltage of the sensor. The comparison in the sensor is accomplished by a current push-pull action. With a fixed reference, the comparator can be embodied based on (W/L) ratios. The current-mode scheme benefits the system better than a conventional voltage-mode one in terms of small area, low power consumption.

  • The dc reactor type high-Tc superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL) is composed of three parts, a power converter, a magnetic core reactor(MCR) and a dc reactor. This study concerned with the power converter of the DC reactor type high-Tc SFCL. The rectifying devices which power converter of 6.6kV/200A SFCL consists of have to endure high voltage. We propose the dual mode power converter to reduce the voltage which each rectifying device endures. In the single phase the experiment and simulation of dual mode power converter and the simulation of power converter with one bridge rectifier are performed. The current of each system with different power converter has a same tendency and the voltage which rectifying device of dual mode power converter endures is reduced in half by comparison with that of power converter with one bridge rectifier. We found dual mode power converter can be applied to SFCL.

  • This paper introduces a high-speed low-power self-timed current-mode logic (STCML) that reduces both dynamic and leakage power dissipation. STCML significantly reduces the leakage portion of the power consumption using a pulse-mode control for shorting the virtual ground node. The proposed logic style also minimizes the dynamic portion of the power consumption due to short-circuit current by employing an enhanced self-timing buffer. Comparison results using a 80-nm CMOS technology show that STCML achieves 26 times reduction on leakage power consumption and 27% reduction on dynamic power consumption as compared to the conventional current-mode logic. They also indicate that up to 59% reduction on leakage power consumption compared to differential cascode voltage switch logic (DCVS).

  • This paper presents the 2-bit parallel algorithmic ADC using current mode for parallel method algorithm. It is operated by parallel conversion, 2-bit at each moment, and increase bit numbers by serial connection. The circuit operates in current mode. The comparison ratio can be controlled while working under mode operation. The circuit design used 0.8 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS technology which capable to convert 2-bit in 50 ns, power consumed 0.786 nW, with input current 0-50 mA from 3V single supply. From simulation testing, the conversion rate is much faster than other method.

  • A numerical scheme based on a mode superposition method is presented for the dynamic response analysis of a top-tensioned riser (TTR) under sheared current loads. The natural frequencies and mode shapes of the TTR have been calculated analytically for a beam with a slowly varying tension and pinned-pinned boundary conditions at the top and bottom ends. The lift coefficients and corresponding amplitudes used to estimate the vortex-induced modal force and damping for each mode were predicted via iterative calculations based on the input and output power balancing concept. Here, the power-in regions were controlled by the normal distribution function, for which the center was coincident with the lock -in location by local vortex-shedding, and the range was defined by the constant standard deviation for the reduced velocity by the local current speed. Finally, dynamic responses such as root-mean-squared displacement and stress were calculated using the mode superposition technique. In order to verify the presented scheme, a numerical calculation was performed for a TTR under an arbitrary linearly sheared current and linearly varying tension. A comparison with the results of the existing software showed that the presented scheme could give reliable and feasible solutions. Case studies were performed to investigate the effects of various current loads and tensions.

  • An efficient sensing scheme applicable to DC-DC converters is proposed. The output voltage of the DC-DC converter is fed back and converted to a current signal at the input terminal of the sensor to decide if it is in the tolerable range. The comparison is accomplished by a current push-pull action. With the embedded reference current in the sensor realized from the reference voltage. The advantages of the scheme lie in the fairly accurate and efficient implementation in terms of power consumption and chip size overhead compared with conventional voltage-mode schemes as the major parameter in converting voltage to current is determined by (W/L) aspect ratio of the core transistors. In this paper, a DC-DC converter of 5V output from battery range of 2.2V${\sim}$3.6V adopting the proposed sensing scheme is implemented in a 0.35um CMOS process to prove the validity of the scheme.

  • In this paper, the conducted EMI reduction performances of active feed-forward current-sensing current-actuation (CSCA) and voltage-sensing current-actuation (VSCA) filters for a three-phase induction motor drive system are evaluated by experiments. For comparison purposes, the conducted EMI (CM emission, DM emission and total emission) of a three-phase induction motor drive with a conventional CM choke, a conventional CM choke in series with an active VSCA filter, and an active CSCA filter (where the CM choke was modified and used as a sensing current transformer) were compared to the case of a system without any filter inserted. Experimental results show that the active CSCA and VSCA filters can improve the CM reduction performance of the conventional CM choke by about 5 dB especially at low-frequencies. However, for DM comparisons, it shows that there is no different between cases with and without filters inserted.
