  • Injected fuel pressure waves of a common rail injector with various current profiles supplied to the injecor were measured using Bosch method. In order to drive the common rail injector, the current in the solenoid should be controlled using what is known as a peak and hold pattern, which consists of a high current level with a short time duration (peak) in the first step and a low current level with a long time duration (hold) in the subsequent step. The current profile can be shaped by swithcing an injector driving power source with the peak and hold waves. The capture, compare and PWM (CCP) pin in the microprocessor was used to generate the combined peak and hold waves. The PWM square wave generated from the CCP pin has a duty ratio of 100% for the peak current and 10% or 30% for the hold pattern. Five patterns of the current profile were generated by combining the peak and hold wave. The common rail pressure is controlled at 75, 100, and 130 MPa. As the fuel rail pressure increases, the variations of the measured fuel injection pressure wave according to the current profiles decrease.

  • Numerical study on interactions of waves and currents has considerable practical interests in coastal and ocean engineering. And wave-current interactions strongly influence wave characteristics, current profiles, and forces on offshore structures. Presence of currents affects wave properties such as wave height and wave profiles. Furthermore, in case of the irregular waves, it is more complicated problem. The propose of present study, using the one-dimensional wave-current numerical model is based on the extended Boussinesq equation(Madsen, 1991) and an alternative form of wave-current dispersion relation(Mohiuddin, 1999, 2000) including wave action concept, is to simulate wave propagation in a current field including the irregular waves and discuss applicability of the model in a wave-current field.

  • This paper presents a new torque sharing function method that extends the definition region of the conventional TSF to both the positive and negative torque production regions. By using this definition, all kinds of the control inputs that consider switching on/off angle control as well as the current profiling can be described. A parametrized representation of the current profiles is proposed by using a series of B-spline functions, which reduces memory requirement and enables additional controllers. Optimal determination of the TSFs are also investigated for various control objectives. Moreover, the comparison study of each objective is presented. Since this method generalizes all of the possible control input, the current and torque profiles obtained from the optimization are the most suitable control input that satisfy the objectives.

  • The magnetic field profiles near the surface of a $Sm_1Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}$ coated conductor(CC-tape) under magnetic field and current that were applied simultaneously with phase differences ${\phi}s$ were measured using scanning Hall probe method. Measurements were carried out along the elliptic load lines with $\phi=90^{\circ}\;and\;45^{\circ}$ for some $B_{peak},\;I_{peak}$ values. From the measured field profiles, sheet current density J(x, $B_a,\;I_a$) and magnetic flux density $B_0(x,\;B_a,\;I_a)$ profiles in the CC-tape were calculated. Using these J(x, $B_a,\;I_a$) and $B_0(x,\;B_a,\;I_a)$ profiles, we estimated the hysteresis energy loss Q in the CC-tape. The estimated Qs, together with our previous results for $\phi=0^{\circ}$ from [9], were compared with theoretical values based on Brandt's calculation.

  • Plasma characteristics of two-dimensional inductively coupled discharge simulation is investigated. Impedance of an inductively coupled plasma discharge was considered. Voltage drops across antenna coils and current variation between coils made different profiles of plasma characteristics. Importance of the capacitive field effect in some case was analyzed.

  • Voltage-current profiles are measured when hydrogen-oxygen gas is in contact with solid polymer membrane ($Nafion^{(R)}$) as the electrolyte. The feed gas is prepared by mixing hydrogen and oxygen gas in various ratios. The carbon gas diffusion electrodes contacting the electrolyte are treated by platinum catalyst. The platinum surface is impregnated with a 5% $Nafion^{(R)}$ solution to ensure its good surface contact with the electrolyte. The constant voltage between anode and cathode was applied by a DC power supply. The results on the profiles show that the energy efficiency critically depends on the hydrogen concentration in $H_2/O_2$ mixture gas.

  • We present an efficient estimation method of the battery lifetime considering various power consumption profiles in wireless sensor nodes. The power profiles in single and periodic modes and the current dissipations in different operating modes are taken into account to find the total current consumption. Also, the self-discharge rate of a battery is taken into account to estimate the battery lifetime of a given sensor node. Finally we present a governing equation for finding the battery lifetime. We believe the proposed estimation method of the battery lifetime can be an efficient and effective method for low power design of sensor nodes.

  • The current study presents a geometric measurement and analysis of the section profile for a feature line surface on an automotive outer panel. A feature line surface is the geometry which is a visually noticeable creased line on a smooth panel. In the current study the section profile of a feature line surface is analyzed geometrically. The section profile on the real press panel was measured using a coordinate measuring machine. The section profiles from the CAD model and the real panel are aligned using the same coordinate system defined by two holes near the feature line. In the aligned section profiles the chord length and height of the curved part were measured and analyzed. The results show that the feature line surface on the real panel is doubled in width size.

  • Fixed boundary MHD static equilibrium for the axisymmetric toroidal plasma is analyzed numerically. The Grad-Shafranov equation is solved using finite element method. The toroidal current term is expressed by plasma pressure and toroidal field function. The numerical results are compared to the Solovev analytic equilibrium for the verification of the solution. For SNUT-79 tokamak device in Seoul National University, the flux surfaces, the toroidal current profiles, the safety factor q and average beta values are obtained when the p and g profiles are varied.
