A Study on the Possibility of the Earthquake Detection based on Telluric Current Monitoring (지전류 모니터링 기반 지진 감지 가능성 연구)

  • Recently, since earthquakes have happened frequently in Gyeongju and Pohang areas in Korea, the earthquake detection research gets lots of attention. Geophysical monitoring data have been changed during the earthquake activity because the huge amount of energy is accumulated. The change of telluric current can be predicted by both of piezoelectric and electrokinetic effects before or during the earthquake occurrence, and if the change value exceeds the conventional telluric current noise, we can measure changes in the electric field associated with earthquakes. In this study, we have self-developed and verified the system that can monitor the telluric current. In order to verify our telluric current monitoring system, we installed lines of 40 m (E-W direction) and 28 m (N-S direction) on the site in Pohang. The telluric currents were sampled at 1 kHz for about a month. We have compared and analyzed the data of earthquake signals and electrical noises based on the earthquakes that occurred during the monitoring period. We have monitored if there were significant signals related to the earthquake on measured time series data. Through this study, we will suggest the direction of continuous research in the future.

  • The purpose of the study is to analyze environmental changes in market, customer and information technology of Internet fashion industry, to present fashion company's current situation and strategy for confronting business environmental changes, and to propose the direction of the future research in this fashion field. First, the importance of Internet has been increased due to the rapid growth in number of Internet user and the size of the e-commerce. Second, to satisfy the customers requiring reasonable price and differentiated product and service, e-Branding strategy implementation, customized service development and enhancement on Web-site credibility and loyalty are demanding in the market. Third, development on the mobile technology and the increase in the Internet user using mobile communication device requires preparing mobile consuming environment, new business platform. Fashion industry's current situation and competitive strategy developed by the environmental change analysis were used for developing future research direction, that is, the m-business, CRM, and e-Branding. Through the understanding of environmental changes in Internet fashion industry and proposed research direction, research on Internet fashion marketing is hoped to be vitalized. Results of this study were expected to be utilized the strategy development.

Omnidirectionally Beam-Steerable Orthogonal Loop Resonator with Switch for Wireless Power Transfer (무선전력전송용 스위치가 장착된 직교루프 전방향 빔조향 공진기)

  • This paper presents an omnidirectionally beam-steerable orthogonal loop resonator for wireless power transfer. The resonator is composed of two orthogonal loops. These connections of two loops and the current direction on the loops are determined by the control of switch. The magnetic field direction is determined by the vector sum of each loop current. The beam is steerable to eight directions by four switch modes. Using the suitable switch mode, the simulation and measurement efficiencies in the whole azimuthal direction are 56.3~60.0 %(deviation 3.7 %) and 41.2~48.7 %(deviation 7.5 %), respectively. The results show a little variation of transmission efficiency in the azimuthal direction.

The current state of early English education and its more desirable direction (조기 영어교육의 실태와 바람직한 방향 -우리나라 초등학교 영어교육을 중심으로-)

  • This paper aims to find out the current state of early English education in the world(including Korea) and to suggest its more desirable direction, with special reference to TEFL in elementary schools of Korea. In fact English teaching in elementary schools of Korea has been put into practice as an extracurricular activity since 1982. But in 1995 the Ministry of Education proclaimed a policy to establish a TEFL program as the regular course in elementary schools of Korea since 1997. In this connection, the writer surveyed several kinds of theories about early English education to verify the necessity and validity of Korea's elementary school English education. The logical result from these theories is that younger children are better equipped to learn foreign languages with efficiency than older children or adults. However, as most studies are based on logical inferences rather than on direct observation or experimental evidence, we are not sure that those theories are right. In this view, the writer put stress on the preparation of educational environments to establish a more desirable direction of early English education in Korea, since Korea's elementary school English education will be practiced under EFL environment, not ESL environment. The writer also pointed out some problems of educational finances, the curriculum development process and its content, teaching materials(textbooks and tapes), English teachers, teaching methods, evaluation, educational facilities. This paper concludes that we have to try to solve these problems to succeed in a TEFL program in elementary schools of Korea and suggests several things for a more desirable direction of Korea's elementary school English education.

A Study on the Design Bending Moments of Long Span Decks with KL-510 Load (KL-510 하중을 적용한 장지간 바닥판의 설계휨모멘트에 관한 연구)

  • In the current Korea highway bridge design code (KHBDC), the criteria of concrete bridge decks are mainly based on short span decks of steel plate girder bridge, there are very little the specific criteria of long span decks in the twin steel plate girder bridge. Therefore, to put more rational and practical design criteria of the long span decks on the code, the complements of the related criteria are required in the current design code. This paper proposed the design bending moments of decks with 6.0~12.0m span for KL-510 load in direction to bridge (longitudinal direction) and perpendicular direction to bridge (transverse direction). The effects of orthotropic concrete decks, stiffness of steel girders and multiple lane loading factors (MLLF) were reflected in the design bending moments. The proposed design bending moments were compared to the design bending moments with DB-24 load.

  • This study was carried out to estimate drying schedule of Fagaceae four species grown in Kangwon-Do by oven-drying at $100^{\circ}C$ which aimed to elucidate the characteristics such as current moisture content, drying process, initial check, collapse and internal check during drying. The results were summerized as follows ; Current moisture content of each board showed a rapid drying curve with the hight initial moisture content of board and species with the high initial moisture content took long to do drying. Appearance of checks for Quercus variabilis were extremely severe and estimated schedule was $T_5-C_2$. The shrinkage rate of grain direction was in the order of tangential direction > radial direction > longitudial direction and the shrinkage rate of oven-drying at $100^{\circ}C$ was bigger than normal shrinkage rate.

Future Business Direction of Korean Native Chicken: Farmer and Processor Perspectives (토종닭 농장주 및 가공업자가 바라본 토종닭 산업의 미래 방향)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the difficulties that Korean farmers and processors currently experience with respect to the market for Korean native chicken (KNC). This study also provides suggestions by which they can overcome these difficulties. In all, sixty-nine farmers and sixty-two processors participated in our investigation, which addressed 1) the current difficulties that KNC farmers face, 2) the current importance-satisfaction measures among KNC farmers and processors, and 3) the future direction of the KNC market: farmer and processor opinions. The respondents stated that the limited number of sales stores was the most difficult market condition they faced in raising KNC, followed by feed cost, animal disease, and poor production environment. Regarding issues of importance and satisfaction, origin in raising step and slaughtering in the processing and distribution step were considered the areas most in urgent need of improvement, given farmers' and processors' high levels of dissatisfaction with these. Both the free-range farming system and the concept of animal welfare are growing in importance, given consumers' interests in these areas. As to opinions on the direction of KNC development, menu development was cited as most important, followed by public advertisement, accessibilities, business aid, and breed development. Consequently, the results show that well-organized support from both the government and related industries is needed, as chicken farmers and processors cannot resolve certain limitations inherent in the KNC industry on their own.

Estimation of leeway of jigging fishing vessels by external factors (외력에 의한 채낚기 어선의 표류 추정)

  • Among the fishing vessels operating in the coastal waters, jigging fishing vessels were considered representative vessels engaged only by wind, sea, tide, and external force. Then, a fishing vessel with a length of shorter than 10 m from July 1, 2018 to August 5, 2019 was studied to obtain a drift prediction model by multiple regression analysis. In the correlation analysis between variables for leeway of speed and direction, the speed and direction of tidal seem to be the most affected in coastal waters. Therefore, it should be considered an explanatory variable when conducting drift tests. As a result of multiple regression analysis on the predicted equations of leeway speed and direction due to the external force on the drift of the fishing vessel, p < 0.000 was considered significant in the F-test, but the coefficient of determination was 55.2% and 37.8%. The effect on the predicted leeway speed was in the order of the tidal speed and current speed. Analysis on Current Limiting Characteristics of a Fault-lock Type SFCL Applied into a Simulated Power System (모의전력계통에 적용된 자속구속형 초전도 전류제한기의 전류제한 특성 분석)

  • When the current of the superconducting element exceeds its critical current by the fault occurrence, the quench of the high-$T_C$ superconducting fault current limiter (HTSC) comprising the flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) occurs. Simultaneously, the magnetic flux in the iron core induces the voltage in each coil, which contributes to limit the fault current. In this paper, the fault current limiting characteristics of the flux-lock type SFCL as well as the load voltage sag suppressing characteristics according to the flux-lock type SFCL's winding direction were investigated. To confirm the fault current limiting and the voltage sag suppressing characteristics of the this SFCL, the short-circuit tests for the simulated power system with the flux-lock type SFCL were carried out. The flux-lock type SFCL designed with the additive polarity winding was shown to perform more effective fault current limiting and load voltage sag suppressing operations through the fast quench occurrence right after the fault occurs and the fast recovery operation after the fault removes than the flux-lock type SFCL designed with the subtractive polarity winding.

Study on Current and Water Quality Characteristics in Yongil Bay (영일만내의 유동과 수질특성에 관한 연구)

  • The water quality in Yeongil Bay is getting worse due to the sewage and the waste water from the surrounding industrial complex The study aims to simulate the current system that is necessary to built ecosystem model for the optium water quality control and clarify the correlation of current system characteristics with water quality in Yongil Bay. To clarify the characteristics of coastal water movement system and verify the applicability of the 3-D model, the current system was simulated using 3-D baroclinic model considered tidal current and density effects. As the results of numerical experiments, it is proved the 3-D model is the most appliable on the Yongil Bay where current flows slowly and the flow direction is varied by depths. From the results of simulation considered tidal current only, It am be clearly said the water in Yongil Bay flows in through the surface layer and flows out through the bottom layer. And the fresh water from the Hyongsan river and the heated discharge from POSCO have little effect on the current structure in Yonggil Bay, but have and important effect upon the density structure by diffusion of heat and salt. And the water quality distribution is closely related with the current structure characteristics as well as the tidal residual current system.
