A Comparative Study on Office Building Criteria between G-SEED and LEED

  • G-SEED aims for establishing green environmental building with energy saving and has started for evaluating with multi-residential complex in 2002 by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure & Transport (MOLIT) and the Ministry of Environment to develop the current 10 building types and new & existing building types to be applied. Since G-SEED has been developed for more than 10 years, the strategy of globalization is needed with constant review itself and comparison between other assessments to understand current situation from the global perspectives. This study draws similarities and differences of G-SEED and LEED criteria by the comparison from re-constructed LEED criteria based on G-SEED. "Energy & Pollution" is the most concerned category in both assessments as the result of analysis on category rates. Next concerns are "Material & Resources", "Indoor Environment" and "Water Management". The unique categories in both criteria are "Ecological Environment" in G-SEED and "Innovation & Design Process" in LEED. The conclusion of this research is that two assessments are organized at different locations and with different strategies for developing green building but there are common concerns such as energy saving, material use, indoor environment. As a result, it is expected to use fundamental data for developing G-SEED for global standard.

  • The G-SEED encourages the installation of new and renewable energy facilities through assessments of the new and renewable energy installation rates. The government also regulates the installation rate of new and renewable energy facilities in the 'Project on new and renewable energy obligation in public installations'. The current criteria concerning the new and renewable energy facilities in the G-SEED are the result of an amendment made in July 2010. As over five years have passed since this amendment, the assessment criteria needs to be reenforced. To improve the current criteria, the calculation results of the installation rate of new and renewable energy facilities in the G-SEED were analyzed and compared to the corresponding calculation results of the 'Project on new and renewable energy obligation in public installations'. And an improved draft for the assessment criteria of the new and renewable energy facilities in the G-SEED was proposed.

교량기초의 신뢰성 설계규준에 관한 연구 (A Study on Reliability Based Design Criteria for Bridge Foundation)

  • Current Bridge foundation design is based on Working Stress Design(WSD), but Load Factor Based on Optimum Reliability(LFBOR) design method is more rational than the WSD. For this reason, this study proposes a reliability based design criteria for the bridge foundation, which is most common type of bridge foundation(Shallow, Pile and Caission), and also proposes the theoretical basis of nominal safety factors of stability analysis by introducing the reliability theory. The limit state equations of stability analysis of bridge foundation and the uncertainty measuring algorithms of each equation are also derived by Cornell's MFOSM(Mean First Order 2nd Moment Methods)using the stability analysis fourmula Highway Bridge Design Codes.

  • 북한은 화생방 무기체계운용의 경제성과 재래식 무기의 한계성을 인지하여 비대칭 전력을 활용한 대량살상무기에 대해 꾸준한 준비를 하고 있는 상황이다. 그러나 현재의 민방위 대피시설은 실질적으로 재래식 폭탄 및 미사일 등에 대한 위협만을 고려하고 있으며, 화생방 및 각종 테러 등의 재난 발생 시 적절하게 대응하지 못하여 민간의 피해를 가중시킬 수 있는 위험성을 내포하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 우리의 실정과 재난 특성에 따라 적절히 대응할 수 있는 민방위대피시설의 계획 및 설계 방안을 도출하기 위해 화생방 재난을 중심으로 민방위 대피시설의 현황 및 설계기준을 파악하였으며 연구를 통해 얻은 결과 및 제안사항을 제시하고 있다.

  • R.C.도로교(道路橋) 상부구조(上部構造)의 신뢰성(信賴性) 설계(設計) 기준(基準) 제안(提案)는 것이 본(本) 연구(硏究)의 주요 내요(內容)이다. T형 및 4각형 단면(斷面)의 저항(抵抗) 불확실량(不確實量)과 교량사하중(橋梁死荷重) 및 교통활하중(交通活荷重)에 대한 불확실량(不確實量) 우리의 현실(現實)을 반영하는 적절(適切)한 값으로 제안(提案)하였다. Cornell의 MFOSM과 Lind Hasofer의 AFOSM을 포함하는 주요 2차(次)모멘트 신뢰성(信賴性) 이론(理論)을 비교(比較) 분석(分析)하므로서 Elllngwood의 반복시행(反復試行) 알고리즘과 대수정규형(對數正規型) 근사공식(近似公式)을 본(本) 연구(硏究)에서 제안(提案)하는 신뢰성(信賴性) 해석(解析) 및 설계기준(設計基準)의 유도에 사용함이 적절(適切)하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 현행(現行) 도로교(道路橋) 설계규준(設計規準)에 따라 Calibration 하므로서 목표신뢰성지수(目標信賴性指數) ${\beta}_0=3.5$를 우리의 현실(現實)을 반영하는 최적치(最適値)로 선택(選擇)하였다. 상기(上記)한 불확실량(不確實量) 해석(解析) 이론(理論)에 의해 ${\beta}_0=3.5$에 대응(對應)하는 하중(荷重) 및 저항계수(抵抗係數)를 유도하였다. 그리고 현행(現行) WSD 도로교(道路橋) 설계(設計) 규준(規準)을 위해 신뢰성(信賴性) 이론(理論)에 의한 공칭안전율(公稱安全率)과 허용응력(許容應力)을 제안(提案)하였다. 본(本) 연구(硏究)에서 제안(提案)하는 R.C.도로교(道路橋)의 LRFD 신뢰성(信賴性) 설계기준(設計基準) 현행(現行) R.C.표준설계(標準設計) 시방서(示方書)의 규준(規準)에 대응(對應)하는 설계기준(設計基準)으로 도입(導入)함이 바람직하다는 사실(事實) 확인(確認)할 수 있었다.

Critical Design Issues on the Cathodic Protection Systems of Ships

  • Cathodic protection technology has been widely used on ship's outer hull and inner side of ballast water tanks as a supplementary corrosion protection measure in combination with protective organic coatings. Impressed current cathodic protection system is typically opted for the ship's hull and, sacrificial anode system, for ballast water tanks. The anticipation and interest in cathodic protection system for ships has been surprisingly low-eyed to date in comparison with protective coatings. Computational analysis for the verification of cathodic protection design has been tried sometimes for offshore marine structures, however, in commercial shipbuilding section, decades old design practice is still applied, and no systematic or analytical verification work has been done for that. In this respect, over-rotection from un-erified initial design protocol has been also concerned by several experts. Especially, it was frequently reported in sacrificial anode system that even after full design life time, anode was remaining nearly intact. Another issue for impressed current system, for example, is that the anode shield area design for ship's outer hull should be compromised with actual application situation, because the state-of-the-art design equation is quite impractical from the applicator's stand. Besides that, in this study, some other critical design issues for sacrificial anode and impressed current cathodic protection system were discussed.

  • Since 1960's, structural engineers have recognized that tile inherent random nature of loadings and materials as well as the imperfect structural analysis may be important factors in tile structural safety evaluation. Based on the successful developments of the reliability based structural analysis and design, the design criteria of tile standards are recently developed(or modified) in the light of the probabilistic concepts. To develop the probability-based design criteria for tile domestic buildings, the probabilistic characters of loadings acting on structures should be defined first. In this study, therefore, live load data on apartment buildings have collected and analyzed in a systematic manner, and their probabilistic characteristics have been studied. Based oil the results, the lifetime extreme values are computed and compared with current design loads. More rational design loads are suggested, which are more consistent in the probabilistic concepts.

환경친화적 완충녹지의 기준설정 (Design and Planning Criteria for the Green Buffer Zone)

  • The purpose of the study is to analyze the existing situation of the green buffer zone in the large scale industrial site and other major residential apartment areas. In this study, it is specifically intended that the planning guideline be upgraded to adopt future landuse trends and thus to suggest design criteria for management of the buffer zone. The framework of the analysis is to review the current landuse, noise reduction, ecological implications and landscape in general. Although the major function of a green buffer zone is considered to protect the residential area from various hazards of industrial, traffic, and visual environment, the situation is that most of the zones are maintained at a minimum level of services by local government. The study carried out intensively almost every type of case studied throughout the country, which implies that the management of the green buffer zone should be expanded physically enough to function for its original objectives. The study recommends that ecological management of the green buffer zone be emphasized and therefore the criteria for this purpose as well as noise issue should be developed prior to the landuse aspects. The study suggests specific guidelines for planning and design for the green buffer zone development. This study should be verified positively through the sustainable monitoring and requires nationwide and overall examination so that it may be applied to whole green spaces.

국내 가압경수형 원전에 대한 가압열충격 재평가 연구 (Pressurized Thermal Shock Re-Evaluation Studies for Korean PWR Plant)

  • The PTS reference temperature of reactor pressure vessel for one of the Korean NPPs has been predicted to exceed the screening criteria before it reaches it's design life. To cope with this issue, a plant-specific PTS analysis had been performed in accordance with the Regulatory Guide 1.154 in 1999. As a result of that analysis, it was found that current methodology of RG. 1.154 was very conservative. The objective of this study is to examine the effects of changing various input parameters and to determine the amount of conservatism of the current PTS analysis method. To do this, based on the past PTS analysis experience, parametric study were performed for various models using modified VISA-II code. This paper discusses the analysis results and recommendations to reduce the conservatism of current analysis method.

FUEL BEHAVIOR UNDER LOSS-OF-COOLANT ACCIDENT SITUATIONS

  • The design, construction, and operation of a light water reactor (LWR) are subject to compliance with safety criteria specified for accident situations, such as loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) and reactivity-initiated accident (RIA). Because reactor fuel is the primary source of radioactivity and heat generation, such a criterion is established on the basis of the characteristics and performance of fuel under the specific accident condition. As such, fuel behavior under accident situations impact many aspects of fuel design and power generation, and in an indirect manner, even spent fuel storage and management. This paper provides a comprehensive review of: the history of the current LOCA criteria, results of LOCA-related investigations on conventional and new classes of fuel, and status of on-going studies on high-burnup fuel under LOCA situations. The objective of the paper is to provide a better understanding of important issues and an insight helpful to establish new LOCA criteria for modem LWR fuels.
