파리공원에 반영된 한국성의 기호학적 해석 -예름슬레우 모델을 중심으로- (A Semiological Interpretation of the Koreaness in Paris Park, Seoul)

  • Although built-environment has not only function but also socio-cultural meanings, the latter is neglected in the modernism. People don't have the identity of their place because they can't communicate with environment. Therefore, expressing the socio-curtural meanings in landscape is one of main issues after the modern era. The meanings of phenomena can be analyzed by the Semiology based on Structurism, the methodology which has been developed in Linguistics and Anthropology since 1900's. The purpose of this study is to adapt Helmslev's model that can effectively explain the meanings of built-environment and interpret the Koreaness, one of important meanings in contemporary urban park, Paris park. The following methods are used for achieving the purpose. 1. Adaptation of the Helmslev's model for interpreting the urban park. 2. Interpretation of the Paris park. 3. Making the types of interpretion of Paris park. The results are as followings: 1. Helmslev's model can explain the content and expression of the urban park in denotation and connotation. 2. Th socio-cultural meanings of Paris park are the relationship of France, Yan and Yin theory, philosophy of Samjae, king's authority. And they are expressed in the pattern of paving, the shape of mounds, fountain, and pond, a picture of the wall, colours of lightings and columns, and a mark of bollards.

미국 소수인종 문학에 유머로 위장된 환상의 윤리학: 존 레기자모의 『괴물』 중심 연구 (Fantasy Ethics Disguised with Humor in American Minority Literature: John Leguizamo's Freak)

  • This paper argues that John Leguizamo disguises ethical intention with humor in his one-person show, Freak. The argument proceeds in three stages. First, on the basis of Slavoj ${\check{Z}}i{\check{z}}ek^{\prime}s$ theory that fantasies teach us how to desire discussed in The Sublime Object of Ideology, I analyze how and why Leguizamo exaggerates and thus de-constructs the ideological fantasies about Latin Americans in Freak. Through this analysis the ridiculous exaggeration of the fantasies and their deconstruction emerges as the means to surface the trauma caused by the fantasies, internally and externally curing and reconciling the audience. Second, I apply ${\check{Z}}i{\check{z}}ek^{\prime}s$ theory of the quilting point introduced in Looking Awry: An Introduction to Jacques Lacan through Popular Culture to reveal how "blots" in Freak form "black holes" in the audience's consciousness to smash their established view of the reality, inducing them to encounter with "the real." The investigation into Leguizamo's use of humor as the quilting point illuminates how he invites the audience to look awry beyond the popular fantasy at "the real" America. Third, on the ground of Emmanuel Levinas's theory that theaters are the space of ethics, namely "ethotopos" to emphasize responsible actions discussed in "Ethics as First Philosophy," I assert that Leguizamo disguises his ethical message with humor so as for the audience to recognize their responsibility for others in America and take action towards change.

  • 상호문화주의는 다문화시대 문화차이에 대한 이해와 더불어 문화 간 차이에서 발생할 수 있는 다양한 갈등을 해소하기 위한 철학을 제시한다. 다문화주의가 다양한 문화의 공존에 초점을 맞추고 있다면, 상호문화주의는 상이한 문화 사이의 활발한 만남과 상호작용을 추구한다. 우리는 상호문화교육을 위한 미디어리터러시 사례로서 흥행 드라마 <사랑의 불시착>을 연구한다. 드라마에 나타난 문화차이와 상호문화주의에 대해 논의해보고, 구체적으로 문화 간 대화의 양상을 분석해본다. 이를 통해 우리는 본 드라마가 상호문화교육의 효과적인 미디어 텍스트임을 고찰해보고자 한다.

전통주택과 조경공간의 생태학적 해석 - 동계(桐溪) 정온(鄭蘊) 가옥과 전주(全州) 최씨(崔氏) 종택을 중심으로 - (An Ecological Interpretation on Korean Traditional Dwelling Houses and Their Landscape Gardens)

  • 본 연구는 생태학에 견줄 수 있는 전통적 관념으로서 생명사상과 전통사상에 착안하여 마련된 '전통경관의 생태학적 해석' 방법론에 대한 사례연구이다. 연구를 통해서 당시의 관점에 근접함으로써 선조들의 생태학적 사고와 그를 기반으로 한 조영방식을 설명하기에 유용한 방법론이 될 수 있음을 규명하였다. 생태학적 해석 도구로써 추출한 '본성(本性; 자연의 정체성 고수)' '중절(中節; 절제)' '효율(效率; 경제적 효용)' '상생(相生; 관계 맺기)' '자생(自生; 자연의 원리 취득)' '중화(中和; 인공을 최소화하여 조화)' '방통(旁通; 소통과 순환)' '변통(變通; 가변성과 다양성)'이라는 전통사상의 개념어들은 우리 문화와 경관 속에 함유된 생태학적 개념을 대신한다. 사례연구를 위해서 서유구의 "임원경제지(林園經濟志)"(1827)에 서술된 항목들을 '공간구조' '조경요소' '건축 구조요소'로 구분하여 해석의 대상을 추출하였다. 정온 가옥과 최씨 종택을 구성하는 요소들을 해석한 결과로 생태학적 조영기법들을 제시하고, 전통주택과 조경공간에 대한 생태학적 특성을 다음과 같이 종합하였다. 자연조건과 세밀한 관계 설정 방식을 가지는 풍토건축으로서 첫째, 자연의 형상을 따르는 토지이용방식('본성' '상생' '중화'), 둘째, 자연과 일체감을 이루는 물리적 공간요소('중절' '상생' '중화'), 셋째, 한정된 자연에너지와 자원을 재활용하면서 지속적인 순환체계 유지('효율' '자생' '방통'), 넷째, 지역에서 얻을 수 있는 자연재료 이용('중절' '효율' '자생'), 다섯째, 미기후를 고려한 평면과 구조 결정('효율' '자생' '변통')으로 정리된다. 이에 전통주택과 조경공간은 다른 유형의 전통공간보다 자연 안에서 효율적인 자원 소비 공간을 목표하였다는 점에서 생태학적 의의를 찾을 수 있다.

원형경관(原型景觀)의 개념 정립 및 형성요인 연구 (A Study on the Meaning and the Factors of Formation of the Prototypal Landscape)

  • This study is aimed at the necessity application in 'Prototype' general concept on discovering cultural identity landscape of our national characteristics landscape research. Accordingly, It is considered landscape, fundamental concept, the prototypal landscape concept from previously researches that have been used. At the same time, the concept of prototypal landscape has been established by commenting a point of view which is defining previous researches that controverted prototypal landscape, then establish concept of prototypal landscape and derive attribute by comparing and considering similar terminology of prototypal landscape. Previously, research prototypal landscape in depth by applying defined concept of prototypal landscape and considering inherence ideological and environmental background prototypal figure and structure. Formation pattern of the prototypal landscape is classified in both philosophical formative primary factor from philosophy, religion and environmental formative factor of human that accumulated cultural life from a region and life. Examples of forming the prototypal landscape by philosophical formative factor are classified as 'Feng-Shui(the theory of divination based on topography)', 'Yin-Yang theory', 'Confucian idea theory' 'Philosophical Taoism', 'Buddhism theory' and 'Nature theory' then environmental formative factor are interpreted by 'Taekliji(determining of advantageous land)', 'Imwon(forest) economical geography', 'land use', 'topography' and 'terrain' as examples. This study is anticipating a new point of view and an establishment of reliable preservation to our characteristic of the prototypal landscape by considering concept of prototypal landscape and formative factor as studying limits of prototypal landscape and researching concentrated origination of the prototype.

  • 디지털 기술의 발달로 모호한 감성의 자극에만 집중하며 만들어지고 있는 상업영상 들이 영상문화 전반에 트렌드 같이 번지고 있다. 2016년 한국영화의 천만관객 영화에 가까운 성공을 거둔 영화들의 모습을 살펴보면 여론몰이를 하는 사회적 현상만 존재하고 영화의 참 실체는 없다는 공통점을 찾을 수 있다. 이에 필자는 680만 관객을 동원하며 사회의 큰 관심을 받았던 영화 '곡성'을 중심으로 앞서 언급한 문제점을 관객들의 일반적 반응등과 같이 분석, 나열하고 이에 대한 올바른 개선점 등을 도출함으로써 영화예술이 대중예술의 격과 깊이를 계승, 발전할 수 있는 길을 모색하고자 한다. 문화, 철학, 종교, 역사 등 인류사회가 공유하는 문화유산의 깊이 있는 사실적 반영은 사회구성원의 문화적인 정서의 동질성과 공감 확보를 위한 필수 명제라고 할 수 있으며 이를 바탕으로 감독이 전하고자 하는 메시지나 내용이 표현 되었을 때 시간과 공간을 뛰어넘어 영화사에 각인되는 진정한 대중예술 콘텐츠가 만들어 질 것이다.

한국치매노인의 문화를 반영하는 회상: 개념분석 (Reminiscence Reflecting Cultural Background in Korean Older Adults with Dementia: A Concept Analysis)

  • Purpose: Reminiscence therapy is a widely used intervention for older adults and those with dementia. However, the attributes of the concept of reminiscence is not clearly proposed. The aim of this study was to clarify the concept of reminiscence in Korean older adults with dementia. Methods: The study applied the concept analysis method of Walker and Avant. The literature review included the previous studies of reminiscence from philosophy, literature, art, neuroscience, medicine, psychology, sociology, and nursing. Results: A total of 43 Korean or international papers were analyzed in this study. Attributes of reminiscence in Korean older adults with dementia were regeneration of memories, internal and external communications, expression of suppressed emotions, and recognition of ego identity. The suppressed emotions and ego identity may result from Korean cultural characteristics based on the suppressed environments of many wars and dictatorships in the past. The consequences of reminiscence in Korean older adults with dementia are cognitive enhancement, relief of depression, and improvements of social interactions, ego integrity, and quality of life. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the historical and cultural characteristics should be considered to develop effective nursing interventions including reminiscence for Korean older adults with dementia.

위티 이히마에라의 『고래 타는 사람』에 그려진 신화적 경계 허물기와 귀향 (Crossing Mythical Boundaries and Homing in Witi Ihimaera's The Whale Rider)

  • This study explores Witi Ihimaera's The Whale Rider (1987) from ecological and postcolonial perspectives. Ihimaera is one of the prominent Maori writers who have critically voiced their concerns about the fragmentation of Maori tradition and the alienation of an environmentally friendly culture in New Zealand. Throughout the novel The Whale Rider, with his mythic imagination and cultural sensitivity, Ihimaera raises ecological awareness in terms of environmental justice and promotes critical consciousness regarding sociocultural and histo-political realities of the Maori people as alienated others in their ancestors' land. Revolving around the developmental process of a young Maori girl named after a mythical Maori ancestor Kahutia Te Rangi also known as the Whale Rider to inherit the Maori leadership, the novel describes the historical, cultural, emotional landscape of the Maori community in the white-centered society of New Zealand. In particular, this paper analyzes the leaving and homing process of narrator Rawiri which is deeply embedded in Maori myth and philosophy toward an eco-friendly culture and postcolonial reality. Indeed, Ihimaera skillfully juxtaposes young man Rawiri's experience outside the Maori community and young girl Kahu's life at the Maori home. In the end, while Kahu achieves her destiny in a mythical way to foster a new vision of harmonious co-existence that is rooted in Maori heritage and compatible with Western culture, Rawiri comes to understand the interrelatedness of all existence and embraces both the rational knowledge of scientific empiricism and the traditional knowledge of spiritual experiences. The novel The Whale Rider was also turned into a film by New Zealand's most influential female film director Niki Caro in 2002, and the film Whale Rider received international acclaim.

EAMA SCHOOLS AND EAYAM

  • The purpose of the East Asian Young Astronomers Meeting (EAYAM) is to provide a chance for young astronomers from or working in China, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan to meet, learn about each other's scientific research, exchange ideas and cultural views, and find out more about leading research facilities in the different member regions. I report on the inaugural EAYAM held in Taiwan in 2003, and the future of this meeting. The purpose of the EAMA Schools is to teach young astronomers how to make best use of the research facilities of member regions. The first EAMA school is currently being organized to better inform young astronomers on using the SUBARU telescope.

한국 전통건축공간의 퍼지성에 관한 연구 - 전통주거건축을 중심으로- (A Study on the Fuzziness of the Korea's Traditional Architecture)

  • The fuzzy theory is on the basis of understanding of the subjectivity and the ambiguity. The paradigm of the fuzzy theory is to explore a regularity from the subjectivity and the ambiguity. Nowadays, the fuzziness, the main concept of the fuzzy theory, is widely applied to a lot of fields as the theory which is positively accepted and actively interpreted. In the science, the fuzziness is officially called as multi-valence. On the other side, there exists the other theory called Han-ism which is presumed as a prototype of korean philosophy. The basic concept of the Han-ism - one, many, middle, same, about - includes the fuzziness. The purpose of this study is to unfold the interrelationship between the fuzzy theory and Han-ism, and furthermore, to interpretate the cultural phenomenon and architectural spaces in koreas traditional architecture with a viewpoint, the fuzziness of the Han-ism.
